cpprototypes··on SimCity Burning: A Warning to Publishers on The Dangers of Always-Online DRM
Yeah I agree, how can a mega billion company like EA fail so badly on marketing. Strategy should've been simple:

1) release it as sim city online, with marketing emphasizing it's like a sim city mmo. People will be more tolerant of launch network issues. Make lots of $$$

2) later release single player sim city 5 (just rip out online parts from above) make more $$$

Such an inept company.

cpprototypes··on Why Python, Ruby, and Javascript are Slow
So does the JIT optimization algorithms depend on popular conventions and patterns of how people write code with a language? Like in JS theres bad language features people avoid and certain patterns on how to code something. If such things changed would the optimizations start failing? I guess I'm wondering if speed is somewhat related to trends in that language.

Does anyone else feel templating is outdated tech? I feel like these days you can just do this:

- build json rest backend in whatever (java jaxrs/jersey, nodejs express, etc)

- build UI with html css js

- If initial page load is an issue due to lots of ajax calls, then use server side templating to ONLY insert a single variable which would contain a json object. This way the initial load is fast since the json is templated directly into the page. After load the UI calls rest services to get more data.

I've found that this enforces a clean separation of concerns.
