deepstack··on Writing HTML sucks and No-code doesn't help
>There's absolutely nothing wrong with tables when properly used for data.

No, the most annoying thing with front end is new front end developer trying to convert data grip that is obviously meant for tables to divs. Seems like young people trying to be cool to not use tables. Use freaking tables when it is looks like grid, div for other stuff.

deepstack··on Tell HN: AT&T disabled phone numbers and accounts of users using the old phones
>I still have an inkling of hope that I will be able to move my sim back to the pro1 after whoever is responsible for the 3G shutdown gets their bonus and they stop going after unsupported devices aggressively.

ATT is just about one of worst telco company around. It doesn't surprise me they are doing stuff like this for bonus or whatever reasons. They have in the past selectively blocked email, calls before (for their customers without notices) and now phones. If you can do NOT use ATT as a telco provider.

deepstack··on Why I don't miss React: a story about using the platform
For comparison, just read this: https://mithril.js.org/framework-comparison.html

Personally I prefer mithril or Soild over all other front-end framework. They light and fast. And Mithril author had in depth knowelge of the other frameworks.

deepstack··on I fell in love with low-JS
>It's breathtaking to see the pendulum swing so obviously and definitively back in favor towards HTML-first and SSG/SSR-first solutions—to the degree that even the JS-framework-hotness-du-jour braintrust is going all-in on SSG/SSR.

The pendulum swings large due to under-educated (and I don't only mean CS degree in school) developers, now days the industry is fill with developer wanna be jumping on the band wagon, many if not most are not really interested in software development. SPA was created to split up front-end/back-end development to cater to these new bee 'front-end' developers. That way the only thing they can screw up is the front end. The way how these Reactive app does thing, makes it easier to split that up. Front end is client/browser, backend API. It make sense from management point of view. It is stupid from a true software developer point of view. SPA also allow to control what user can and can not do. e.g: Link that doesn't allow user to open link in another page. SPA became so popular that w3 even made what so called web components to try to be like React.

However, it is stupid to recreate browser rendering functionality in JS, and try to build desktop like apps in a document based system, even if V8 really made that fast by JIT compiling the JS.

I do like the 2 way binding the vars. And if I'm going to us a reactive app, I would use Solid/Vue/Mithilral before I event touch React/Angular with 10 feet pole.

deepstack··on Why I don't miss React: a story about using the platform
>If you're really worrying about when your component renders or re-renders it's probably because there are other issues with your app.

that's why I prefer Solid instead of React. For client side stuff, Solid is sooo much better than React.

deepstack··on The Agony of Eros: Dating
there is nothing to talk about ghosting. They just don't want to see you, get that as a valid communication and move on.
deepstack··on The Agony of Eros: Dating
It is true, however ignorance and analysis are not mutually exclusive. Just because one analyse it doesn't mean one can avoid being ignorant. Certain things are just not meant for analysis. Dating, Love fun are in those things for my personal experiences.
deepstack··on The Agony of Eros: Dating
The fact that someone would write this on a blog give me the sense that he/she is over analysing this dating thing. Analysis works for accounting and engineering, it does not work for dating. So stop analysing and go have some fun in life.
deepstack··on Resumes are dangerous?
> If all this person is evaluating me on is my Github, they'll think that I've never advanced beyond an amateur level despite my having over a decade of experience in the industry... all because I treat my open source work as a hobby rather than as a second job.

Thanks you for bringing that up. That is one of the reason I don't use GH. Other being the acquisition by MS.

deepstack··on The absurd complexity of server-side rendering
Being used server side JS since before NodeJS came along on JVM. I would say your assessment is correct (input validation) around that time. However React, Vue, Preact, Svelt, SolidJS (not to mention web components) changed that. We now have a group of people ONLY associated html rendering with those type of frameworks and components. So HTML rendering on the server side is pivoted to cater to those type of front end developer with 'Hydration'. The EJS templating type of rendering has being phased out. It is not good or bad, it is catering to what developers are use to.
deepstack··on Buffereditor – Code and Text Editor for iPhone, iPad and iPad Pro
>The killer app I find with my iPad is when you need pen input. For drawing, doing route planning in OS maps and general research and note taking it's an amazing little device.

this is one of things I still love about Apple (being Mac user since Apple II). They really done their market research and how users use the devices. Each device is designed for some specific purposes on daily usage.

deepstack··on Deno 1.20
thanks for posting this. Much needed. When you said: > The process of reconciliation has been slow and painful, cue ESM modules.

I too have run into the similar issues when trying to use JS isomorphically. Especially in combination with typescript. Just wonder how Deno is addressing this? For example: when es import for module server side, in typescript it is ok to omit the file extension, (in typescript development mode it is expecting .ts files), however that breaks when the same code is run on the client side or production mode when it is tsc. How is Deno dealing with this issue? Does Deno just compile all the code to work in broser, serverside typescript all together?

deepstack··on Ask HN: Why does the Ruble still hold 50% of its value?
It would insane for Europe (Germany) to stop getting those gas (especially in the middle of winter). For many Europeans Russian is part of Europe.
deepstack··on Command-line Tools can be 235x Faster than your Hadoop Cluster (2014)
SQL will always be faster than Hadoop and MapReduce. The main reason to use those other slower services is developer are not use to SQL or declarative programming, and insist on having the code in Procedural way.
deepstack··on Russian firms rush to open Chinese bank accounts
And Japan has offered their payment service a while back to the Russians as well. Think Russian has being preparing for this for a while.
deepstack··on Solid.js feels like what I always wanted React to be
and Solid JS runs very close native JS speed! Any one making a Reactive Native Connector for solidjs? Vue Native was already using that connector. with that, Solid JS will be ultimate isomorphic lib to use.
deepstack··on Decentralizing Distribution
> it will be very hard to ensure that no malicious apps get in

Well isn't the whole idea of F-Droid is that the app can be build from the source that is available and the build checksum will match the source from anyone? Sure there can be malicious code, but code for that malicious code will also be available publicly.

deepstack··on Google Tag Manager, the new anti-adblock weapon (2020)
>The problem imho isn't GTM (Google Tagmanager) running as proxy. This would (or at least could) be a data privacy win if done ethically. At least under one imho essential condition: I could be able to run the proxy on any infrastructure that I like. Not only one Google's cloud offering.

Yup that is where rubber meets the road. Would like to offer google as little data as possible. And use as little google products as possible on the web and internet.

deepstack··on Advice gathered from people smarter than me
>Surely you do not mean that a single gene influences all of this?

don't forget Epigenetics! The whole dogmatic way of genotype influencing phenotype view really need to readdressed. There are many other factors influencing what our trait.

deepstack··on Retrospective and technical details on the recent Firefox outage
>All of those except certificate management are important but should never be required for the browser to work. And certificate management should depend on whatever chain of trust is configured, which should not invoke Mozilla as an essential party to every transaction.

This is the part that really gets me. For an average user, they trust the certificate that is bundled with the browser vendor (yes you can do certificate pinning). It just seems like something like certificate for encryption, ought to be split up away from browser vendor rather managed by a open public repo mange by a non-profit. Or have it on a block chain type of ledger. Any thoughts on that HN?

deepstack··on PRQL – A proposal for a better SQL
Wouldn't it be better to just use something like prolog, there is already and extension for postgres?
deepstack··on I cannot begin to tell you how proficient I am in Microsoft Word
Yeah The New Yorker always seems pretentious in away how the guy in the bar scene in Good Will Hunting is. Typically cater towards Ivy league educated trust fund crowd.
deepstack··on Is Google Analytics illegal in your country?
LOL, for sure. Gitlab or gittee page then ;-)
deepstack··on Number of people on government websites now
and 2039 are on "whatever you want". That's kind of browser I want to use.
deepstack··on Is Google Analytics illegal in your country?
>PS: What adds salt to injury is that you're using Google Fonts on this website. If you were privacy-conscious, you'd self-host at least. Read here: https://developers.google.com/fonts/faq?hl=en#what_does_usin...

Thanks for pointing that. Don't know how many time have met privacy advocates, etc has made a such a strong point against google, and still embedded youtube video or google font on their site. Is there are github page where one can block all google or fb used domains or ips? Would be very useful!

deepstack··on Is Google Analytics illegal in your country?
Got a 404 when going to the link.
deepstack··on Replacing jQuery (110kb) With UmbrellaJS (8kb)
>Choosing type=module is usually better choice than classic script tags like in the article. Module tags fetches (if any modules is used) asynchronously, and executes after the parser, however it won't work with older browsers.

Also it provide some kind of JS hijack. All the code with in the module can be tainted by a random .js included elsewhere in the page. However code in module can still access the window object to have access to global and the dom.

deepstack··on Why can’t I play Ultra HD Blu-ray movies on my new Intel CPU platform?
The currently model for digital media (film, music, etc) just doesn't work. Instead of preventing piracy, figure out a new way of making money for artists (not the organisations and administrators). Artists ought to be rewarded not the organisation and admin.
deepstack··on PHP in 2022
You right they are supporting it since 8.1.0.
deepstack··on PHP in 2022
I've being used PHP since it was Personal Home Page (3.x or something). The reason I moved away from it, is it is language make up. Some point around 4 it try to become Java OO style (ok ES6 is trying to do that too). The main reason moving away from it is because would like to have language that has function as a first class citizen, and JS seems to fit the bill. Once I found the joy of developing with proper closure and using function as a first class citizen PHP just doesn't appeal to me. The best things about PHP is it's templating system. And with EJS or similar there is really no reason to use PHP anymore.
