deepstack··on Why Apple’s iMessage is winning: teens dread the green text bubble
> There is no dot-dot-dot icon to demonstrate that a non-iPhone user is typing,

That sounds more a privacy feature. Why should the other guy know that I'm typing or online?

deepstack··on Show HN: Meetup with other travelers in a new place
Just like couch surfing, anything like this will become a dating site. Usually people who knows how to travel don't need sites like this, and they can meet interesting people where ever they go. Instead sites like this it would be better to find a seasoned traveler and learn from him/her.
deepstack··on DaedalOS: Desktop Environment in the Browser
Appreciated what has being put into this effort. Quite slow on macbook pro with 16gb of ram. This makes me question the usability of React. Wouldn't something like this better written in something more lightweight such as Mithril or SolidJS, Vue, etc?
deepstack··on Ask HN: Why is today's Internet experience so user hostile?
> Not a main factor but a factor is 'always the latest tech' issue. Most banks and airlines I use rewrote their perfectly fine and fast sites and apps to reactjs and now they seriously suck.

overusage of SPA of SPA framework (Next.js etc) has caused a lot of problem for users who are used using browser, which is most of web users. It breaks open the link in another tab, back/forward flow. It is not SPA is bad, however if you chose to go that route then design the app with screen size mind and you got think it as an Application instead of a web page.

deepstack··on Grindr €6.5M fined for not collecting users’ valid consent for sharing data
Why people use apps website for personal stuff like that is beyond me. Just because some hip looking company is making an app/website doesn't mean it is secure or good data custodian.
deepstack··on Step Away from Stack Overflow
and Prologo will be even better and cleaner syntax.
deepstack··on Step Away from Stack Overflow
many of these which can be extremely difficult in imperative, can be very easy in declarative.
deepstack··on Websocketd – It's like CGI, twenty years later, for WebSockets
how does this compare to socket.io , I know that is not rfc6455 compliant. Can someone in the typescript/nodejs/deno community make one that is?
deepstack··on Face recognition is being banned, but it’s still everywhere
> strict legal framework for its implementation and strict legal framework enforcement
deepstack··on IMF, 10 countries simulate cyber attack on global financial system
> Russia is threatening back with a "strong response" that, for example, could come in a form of a cyber attack.

Really not need, they will just build their own. Believe Japan is already allowing them to use their banking clearing system. I'm sure they and China already have one. All this cyber attack stuff are really not worth while when country can just build their own SWIFT type of system.

deepstack··on Now DuckDuckGo is building its own desktop browser
use brave or ungoogled chromium (search for it on github) shall stop that.
deepstack··on Current 0-day vulnerability on FreePBX
What linux to unix is what FreePBX TO PBX. Basically think it as an open source google voice. Any one interested in SMS, VoIP then this the project to take a look.
deepstack··on Ask HN: How can a non-techie mom regain access to her FB account?
My condolences. Hope you get the account back. After that, please do not use facebook as custodian for you photos, post and data. Please remember FB is NOT be trusted with anything.
deepstack··on Ask HN: How can a non-techie mom regain access to her FB account?
sms can also be intercepted by folks who knows what they doing in the approximate location as the cell phone user. Cell phone/sms is NOT secure.
deepstack··on New EU data blockage as German court would ban many cookie management providers
It would only make sense to put those along with the cookies. As the intentions of the methods are the same. Cookie = identifier.
deepstack··on New EU data blockage as German court would ban many cookie management providers
should be able to guess who is doing it. And if the legal infrastructure is there, it can be quite easy for whistleblower to expose that.

This is the reason why user who care about their privacy ought to use only web page that works with No Javascript

deepstack··on New EU data blockage as German court would ban many cookie management providers
All so all the fingerprinter/css/font/gpu identification. That ought to be illegal, and any provider caught using it ought to be punished.
deepstack··on Don't start with microservices – monoliths are your friend
Yeah I would say those are key value document based DB. Just silicon valley hipster coming up with cool names to call something different so it is a bit easier for developer to use. Anything does permeant storage are DB.
deepstack··on Don't start with microservices – monoliths are your friend
DB is needed period, unless you want to go blockchain, DHT route, which is not the way to go with most applications.
deepstack··on HTTP/3 Is Fast
>QUIC improves there, TLS handshake starts immediately and UDP setup needs less round-times compared to TCP.

hmmm abit skeptical on the less round-times. Are the all the round-times in TCP to ensure the integrity of the connection. With UPD it is my understanding that no confirmation of receiving packet is issued. So a server can send out a signal, but never can be sure if the client got it. I can see it can be great for multiplexing/broadcasting, but the switch the whole http protocol over like this, I can't imagine there won't be tons integrity and security issues.

deepstack··on The battle of the computing clouds is intensifying
have developed on both AWS and non AWS server and db. There is no deference now days. Depending on if you want to hire the right people with the right skills is another thing.
deepstack··on About the security content of macOS Monterey 12.1
Yeah you can run linux on iphone, but take some tech skills:

https://www.macworld.co.uk/news/linux-iphone-7-3800398/

deepstack··on uBlacklist: Blocks specific sites from appearing in Google search results
would also add IG and FB to the list.
deepstack··on Deno Joins TC39
Personally front end developers need to step up their games learn how to develop or else don't think they have business developing software front-end or back-end. This whole idea of bring in as much developers as possible at cost of developer competency has being harmful for developer and tech community.
deepstack··on Leaving MySQL
This is pretty much the same debate in linux vs freebsd back in early 2000s. Better code quality doesn't get the most recognition. Usually the devs just go with what's hip. And MySQL just sounds better on the marketing end (just because of it's name) than postgres (I mean who can pronounce the name).
deepstack··on Boox Mira Pro – 25.3" E Ink Monitor
I don't care about syntax highlighting, being coding in black and white terminal for a really long time. I care more about screen to be more like paper than screen. LED color screen really hurts my eyes. Coding in natural light on paper would be much better.
deepstack··on Show HN: Emoji to Scale
Oh my Emoji feel like Chinese writing system!
deepstack··on Solidjs – JavaScript UI Library
> run into cognitive dissonance about the semantics of your primitives

Thank you for stating that. Seems like Mithril isn't just fast for processor, rather it is a fast for mental processing.

deepstack··on Solidjs – JavaScript UI Library
Interesting how does this compare to Mithril? I have yet find anything that is more performant than Mithril. Never heard of solid. How is it?
deepstack··on PostgREST 9.0
tried GraphQL, not sure I'm sold on it viability. Sure it is very uniformed, however for nested queries it is very slow. We already have SQL don't need another querying language in js. If I really want get fancy then prolog would be much more preferred. On top of that FB is backing the project make me feel very uneasy, the same exact reason why I won't want to use React with a 10 foot pole.
