deepstack··on What security does a default OpenBSD installation offer?
exactly. SSH is the only thing needed. BTW, debian with only ssh enabled is also pretty good. Wonder how it stack against openbsd in that regard.
deepstack··on How They SRE
Yes technology is like fashion. All these SRE thing are just common sense that sysadmin/DevOP people know how to do. Many things are not needed. Do we really need docker and the cloud provider can just take a snapshot? It really comes down to basically systemadmin skills.
deepstack··on Ercot nearly at capacity for Texas power grid
Looks like internet is going to be partitioned one way or another. The time where any (non-loggedin) web site are accessible are coming to an end. Thanks a lot of scrappers and DDOS attack guys. Alway takes a few bad apples to ruined it for rest of us.
deepstack··on Half Doses of Moderna Vaccine Produce Neutralizing Antibodies
> Double doses, 5x what was needed in monkeys

I'm not a molecular biologist or medical experimental. But that sounds a bit bad medical testing. To just increase the dosage like this with out proper longitudinal studies. Anyone with that area of expertise care of pitch in here?

deepstack··on Ham Radio Forms a Planet-Sized Space Weather Sensor Network
This is only for US. Are there any for EU or other countries?
deepstack··on Firefox 85 cracks down on supercookies
Good! I don't want cookies or anything that can track my state. Bring back stateless web please!!
deepstack··on The database servers powering Let's Encrypt
Sounds about right.
deepstack··on Serverless SQLite
You hit the nail on the head. It is all about marketing for the new front-end developers who don't want to learn "server side" manipulation db, files, etc.

Personally the whole indexdb, localstorage really break the web page as a stateless model. Why do you need save so much local data to just maintain the session? Stop putting everything in the web browser.

deepstack··on Jack Ma makes first live appearance in three months in online meet
Maybe a live zoom call with be good.
deepstack··on Jack Ma makes first live appearance in three months in online meet
yeah it is legit concern with the current situation in the world.
deepstack··on Running a fake power plant on the internet for a month
Digital system are just not mature and harden enough for security. Seems like we need to harden them on the software and hardware level before they can be trusted for driving car and other machinery stuff.
deepstack··on Running a fake power plant on the internet for a month
Good for them! These vary from simple “smart” light switches, to machinery used in industrial plants

This line makes me cringe. Current IT infrastructure are just NOT secure. Until the major IT tech companies and nation state can prove otherwise, important machineries, especially nuclear ought to be kept off internet and digital system.

deepstack··on Why can't I write code inside my browser?
Thank you!!! Finally someone can say it. I've being extremely frustrated by developers who don't want to learn coding and just jumping on the band wagon cause it is the "IN" thing now.
deepstack··on Getting Started with Signal
Thank you for mention this! I don't know why Wire is not mentioned in thread like this. It is best without meta data collection (such as phone number). You can register with just an email and it is based on the encryption protocol that Signal uses. On top of that, the server is written in Haskell!!! Yes, Signal server is in Java, btw. Which is not bad. And Wire is based in Switzerland, with GDPR in Europe it has better data privacy jurisdictions.
deepstack··on Poll: Switching from WhatsApp
Why is wire not mentioned here?
deepstack··on Poll: Switching from WhatsApp
Telegram NON Secrete Chat are not E2E.
deepstack··on Matomo: Open-source analytics platform
Any one know a node alternative to GA? Matomo is great, but for something like GA, node would be best option for handling large amount of http requests.
deepstack··on Britney Spears' Guide to Semiconductor Physics (2007)
Hmm sounds like a bit too PC now days.
deepstack··on Google, Facebook Agreed to Team Up Against Possible Antitrust Action
If only Robber barons know what tech Billionaire are doing now days, it's their wet dream come true. When are we going to stop idolising these people?
deepstack··on Larry David and the Game Theory of Anonymous Donations
Political donation of small amount should be anonymous to prevent political lash-back. However a larger amount political donation ought to be transparent. Money corrupts politicians.
deepstack··on Firefox Was Always Enough
>So yes Firefox was always enough. Leadership at Mozilla doesn't get it.

that is why founder started brave.

deepstack··on Air-FI: Generating Covert Wi-Fi Signals from Air-Gapped Computers
care to elaborate a bit more? Is that bag?
deepstack··on Air-FI: Generating Covert Wi-Fi Signals from Air-Gapped Computers
hardware needs to be hardened. Something like a faraday cage cage for the computer/laptop would be good.
deepstack··on Saudi Arabia applied for diplomatic immunity for ten security guards in Norway
why is this downvote! Bring back web that is just displaying info (e.g text, image, video) works in tor 'Secure' mode.
deepstack··on Mojeek: Independent search engine with its own spider
any insight as to what is consider "Badly behaved crawlers"? Or is it something that you work out with CDN so they don't blacklist your ip?
deepstack··on Google Alternatives
When it comes tech. There are just some people who just don't get and there for looks very silly and hypocritical.
deepstack··on Google Alternatives
>But DDG is bad. not necessarily. Depending what you searching. I do find looking for tech documentation, google performs better. Then use something like startpage.com (google proxy) for that. Something I find that google is censoring them, and I can find it on DDG more.

In the end it is all about having good search engine options.

What I don't like about DDG is that they use bing. Hope they start using their own search now that they are getting big.

I dont' trust MS as much as I don't trust google.

deepstack··on Cypress: Fast, easy, and reliable testing for anything that runs in a browser
Thanks you for bringing up Puppeteer and Playwright!!!! when I saw this, I was thinking why use this unintuitive tool and coding style? when there is open source projects out there?
deepstack··on Facebook Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp Outage
I acknowledge that it is not the standard tech definition. From a user perspective, 'Encryption' ought to mean only me and the person/people whom I communicate with can read the message.
deepstack··on Facebook Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp Outage
Hmmm? Telegram founder is a sharholder in VK from what heard from people from Russia and Ukraine.
