deevolution··on U.S. job openings post biggest drop in more than four years
interestingly, If you compare NASDAQ stock index to Bitcoin, it is near record lows and trending toward making new record lows. https://www.tradingview.com/chart/aydXWl0h/
deevolution··on U.S. job openings post biggest drop in more than four years
stock indexes aren't necessarily a great indicator of how well PEOPLE are doing. The stock market has mostly rallied due to massive stock buybacks and the FED which means that companies are choosing to buy stocks rather than make investments in actual R&D, employment, their workers, innovation, and their future. the 99% aren't seeing any benefits from ATH stock indexes.
deevolution··on Three New Longevity Startups
So has almost every other statistic... if you singled out every other factor such as internet access, technological advancements, health care, medicine and just gave people meat as a substitute for all of that do you think that would suddenly increase their life expectancy by 50%?
deevolution··on 88% of Americans use a second screen while watching TV
Who wants to watch commercials? With your phone or tablet you can have an uninterrupted dopamine flow.

deevolution··on Fact-check: Five claims about thorium made by Andrew Yang
My primary concern with any for of nuclear reactors is that they make for very juicey targets.

deevolution··on Wikipedia Has Cancer (2017)
Oh wow, this is awesome! Also looks like there is an active proposal for decentralizing wikipedia[1]. But IPFS seems to more or less offer a decent solution.

deevolution··on Wikipedia Has Cancer (2017)
The fact that wikipedia, the world encyclopedia, is centrally hosted is itself a problem. Wikipedia should be censorship resistant, borderless, distributed and resilient to disasters, similar to Bitcoin. So far it's none of those things, so it doesn't deserve my money. If I could contribute by hosting articles on my computer I would be more than happy to offer up a few gigs of harddrive space in exchange for access to the world knowledge bank
deevolution··on Clear backpacks, monitored emails: U.S. students under constant surveillance
Well yes, why wouldnt you expect clear backpacks? There are so many shootings. Before we know it every public school student is going to have to go thru TSA security checkpoints before attending class because Americans are free and allowed to own guns.
deevolution··on Downtime is an effortless way to improve your memory (2018)
"We don’t give them any specific instructions with regards to what they should or shouldn’t do while resting,” Dewar says. “But questionnaires completed at the end of our experiments suggest that most people simply let their minds wander In one study, for instance, participants were asked to imagine a past or future event during their break, which appeared to reduce their later recall of the newly learnt material. So it may be safest to avoid any concerted mental effort during our down time. "

Astounding. I assumed that the high performing test subjects would have used some sort of special memorization technique, but in fact doing and thinking nothing actually wins out.

deevolution··on Tech Workers Backing Candidates Looking to Break Up Their Employers
How do you break up alphabet?they will just move their corporation over seas, set up in africa and avoid any monopoly breakers. The government has no power over these companies. They would have to raid the offices and send the ceo to prison before alphabet agrees to break their monopoly.
deevolution··on Is Stack Exchange in violation of NY labor law by using volunteer moderators?
checkout the steemit platform for an example of an online community where all forms of contributing, as long as people believe it added value, can be rewarded. The content is mostly crypto related, but I think its an interesting alternative to our current reputation based models because it means you can transfer the value you contributed to that site into real money whereas reputation is non transferable accross different platoforms.
deevolution··on Coca-Cola Named Most Polluting Brand in Plastic Waste Audit
The blame should really be placed on the consumers of coca cola - the consumers are ultimately responsible for this waste. Consumers should probably be taxed for buying high-poullution products. These externalities need to be represented somehow in the market place, but they aren't so consumers will just keep buying shit because they can afford it!
deevolution··on Isolation, anxiety, and depression in the remote workplace
I think a great antidote for this, specifically for people who are lonely, is to move into a multi bedroom apartment with 3+ other people or even find a coliving space. There are some of these on NYC and from my experience it's comparable to living in a dorm - which is the kind of healthy experience the author says he missed most. You get to meet and interact with a variety of people on a daily basis, some of whom could lead to deeper connections. Plus its cheaper than a studio or 1br apartment!!

deevolution··on Three Big Things: Important forces shaping the world
"The three big ones that stick out are demographics, inequality, and access to information."

The biggest, most important force shaping the world today is the invisible hand of evolution.

deevolution··on Three Big Things: Important forces shaping the world
>There are 3 futures. One where population naturally levels off and finds a sustainable level, one where growth turns out to be truly exponential in defiance of physical limits and one where a lot of people discover they can't be supported by what is on offer and die of starvation or violence.

I think theres a 4th future, which is that natural selection and evolution ultimately control population on a global scale and is the single biggest factor influencing the world today.

deevolution··on Quantum computers: amazing progress, but probably false supremacy claims
> basically just about definitively showcasing a problem where using a classical computer would take super polynomial time, but with a quantum computer ends up taking some significantly lesser time complexity.

Quantum computers should only really be able to outperform classical computers on quantum specific problems.

deevolution··on What Happened to the Guys Who Invested Their Life Savings in Cryptocurrency?
My guess is they're doing fine as long as they invested in Bitcoin and avoided 90% of the other vaporware imitation crap floating around.
deevolution··on Vegan takeaway orders quadruple over past two years
Buy local. Takes a second to glance at the distributor location - though it's not always clear when buying fresh unpackaged fruit and veggies where they were sourced from. Personally I'd like to see more of that information available at supermarkets and online.
deevolution··on Vegan takeaway orders quadruple over past two years
Avoiding meat consumption eliminates all dietary cholesterol intake, which is awesome for heart health.
deevolution··on Productivity and the Workweek (2000)
I intentionally show up to work around 11 and leave around 4 or 5 precisely because I know I won't be productive for the full 8 and would prefer to use those last few hours to go climbing or workout, which helps to relieve stress and prepare me for the next day
deevolution··on Tasty Seaweed Reduces Cows’ Methane Emissions by 99%
This would be a tremendous benefit if it can be deployed at scale, which I'm sure it eventually could. HOWEVER, This solution fails to address the excessive amount of water consumption required to raise these cows. fresh, clean water is already becoming a major global crisis. The simplest and most effective solution to ensuring our survival as a species remains switching to a plant-based diet. Too many people adopt a cow-first mentality when we should be adopting a humanity-first mentality. The future is Vegan!
deevolution··on The Menace of Eco-Fascism (2018)
As a human maximalist, I could care less about what those cows think. The problem we face as a society is that too many of us are cow maximalist to the point we're prioritizing these cows lives over our own. Buying that cheese burger at McDonalds is a vote for more cows which has far more negative externalities than eating veggies.
deevolution··on The Menace of Eco-Fascism (2018)
It's still a significant contributor of methane. This change wont happen overnight of course but more alt meat companies such as beyond meat and impossible burger will be able to engineer superior food products that will eventually price real meat out of the market. The cow populations will suffer slowly as will their corporate slave masters.
deevolution··on The Menace of Eco-Fascism (2018)
The KISS solution would be to shoot all 1.4B cows on earth. That would slow climate change significantly and give us enough time to transition the world into using renewable resources. Also before I get downvoted for suggesting such an appalling idea as going on a cow murdering genocide, stop and reflect about the origin of that big piece of meat you ate for dinner tonight. Let's kill these cows once and for all.
