Mostly I was objecting to young more than content creator, since it has connotations of inexperience. But yes I think in some circles books are regarded as "better" than videos. There's certainly a higher barrier to publishing books than electronic content, although obviously both and contain quality or crap.
As a Brit at least, the empire was doing very well out of the slave trade at some point even if there were no slaves in UK (which iirc there were some depending how the law on bringing bringing in slaves stood at the point), so I don't think we can disclaim responsibility like that. Whether we should feel personally guilty for something that happened before anyone now living was born is a different issue, but I think we should acknowledge it happened
Bournville in UK is another example. It was definitely a step up at the time, but I feel like conditions are somewhat better an century and a half later and if they would be going back to where losing your house with your job is an acceptable risk, it would now be a step down.
This can be educated/advertised. A label saying "finger prints on our dvds prove they are safer for you(r children) and the environment" would be enough I suppose.
Here in Germany at least, I see less plastic packaging than there was when I came 10 years ago. For example, locally, you can take your container to the supermarket deli counter and they will fill it with cheese or meat. This is a big national chain (Edeka). I assume awareness is better in most countries than it was, and companies follow demand.
Dunno it was obvious to me that s/he meant it in a half ironic jokey way as in "I don't like exercise and I say this to justify the dislike but I know that it's not really true".
Annecdata, but a Chinese guy in my language class said that China was is trying to compete against quality rather than price, so maybe both are true at different points.
I'd say at least some Europeans have their own guilt to deal with, if we're saying the sins of the parents should be visited on the children... Not like the US has a monopoly on terrible history
Again, you're thinking human centric. Maybe they could do amazing things with non metallic materials which we haven't needed or which haven't been practical for us due to the different circumstances.
In practice it doesn't though. Greater efficiency just leads to higher usage, if you look into it. Total emissions go up, this is why we can't just technology our way out of this thing. We need to actually reduce total emissions not just per unit.
Ripping is pretty much undetectable though unless they decide to torrent it for others. So in practice they own it.
As to the 2nd point, it's not really 1:1, a more accurate equivalent would be a netflix dvd rather than a bought one.
Streaming is also bad for the planet, it needs a ton of servers which all need energy to run and produce emissions. I don't have figures to mind right now but it wasn't nothing. I'm not sure how it compares to distribution though.
To follow that: Genetic changes that have a short term advantage & a long term disadvantage, it's going to be selected for. Evolution stops caring as soon as you've got your child to child bearing age.
