devopsproject··on How Dilbert, Scott Adams Got Hypnotized by Trump
It looks cheap because it is poor persuasion. This guy was playing the role of political pundit who got it right every time when nearly everyone else, including professionals, got it wrong. To use your analogy, the resistance is destroying petrol when the tanks are running on diesel.
devopsproject··on How Dilbert, Scott Adams Got Hypnotized by Trump
This was twisted and extremely biased. This is fake news.
devopsproject··on How Dilbert, Scott Adams Got Hypnotized by Trump
Scott Adams predicted Trump to win in August of 2015. Then he spent the next 15 months explaining how and why it would happen. This hit piece is odd and screams of "fake news".

$6000 a week is $150 an hour and seems to be a pretty reasonable rate.

What you are missing is: not every week will be booked.

I'm no fan of hers but I think she failed at an impossible task and could have done a lot worse.

devopsproject··on Programs that have saved me 100+ hours
Not op but here they are really handy for creating and formatting repetitive code blocks. I find it particular useful when making testing\throwaway code.

For example, I may be testing a function and wanting to test a few scenarios on many IDs. So I will create a csv list of numbers and then use a macro to format it

your csv string will be like this (normally much longer)

134,234,367,4345

Then record the macro:

- type "myFunction("

- type ctrl + right arrow (this moves the cursor to after the comma)

- type backspace

- type ");"

- type enter key

then run stop recording and run the macro. It will produce:

myFunction(134);

myFunction(234);

myFunction(367);

myFunction(4345);

Which doesn't seem like a big time saver over regular copy and pasting. And you could have iterated over the csv string with a for loop. This is probably a really contrived and basic example but you find yourself thinking about using a macro anytime you have to do the same keystrokes over and over.

devopsproject··on Is Facebook a Structural Threat to Free Society?
This is nice story but how is this any different than looking at wikipedia for a bit, reading and making notes on a kindle, etc. Your grandpa sounds like the type to use tools for personal enrichment so shouldn't the tools not matter?

* The SEC isn't going to regulate content, only financials. FTC fought facebook over privacy settings

> Also facebook isn't really a media company

tell that to the millions of people who get most of their news via facebook. Zuckerburg also disagrees (https://techcrunch.com/2016/12/21/fbonc/)

Its like bejeweled\candy crush. You select two or more adjacent colors to perform an "attack".

The "attack" will be one of four choices: You attack, you attack with magic, the enemy attacks you, the enemy attacks you with magic.

So the optimal solution is: Maximize the attacks that benefit you while also picking attacks that either lessen the damage you take OR choose damage against you that set you up for bigger patterns on the next turns.

edit: looks like is can get deeper too. For example, bats have no mana and cannot attack with magic so it is a nice way to move some blocks without taking damage if you dont have any moves.

This is quite common. Find a balance.
devopsproject··on Ask HN: Developers with kids, how do you skill up?
I have 4.

You would be annoyed if you had to answer an email or phone call when you were trying to hang out with your kids. The rest of us are annoyed with the constant interruptions.

It is extremely selfish and others are too polite to tell you to knock it off. If everyone acted like OP, nothing would get done because there would always be a kid, cat, dog, whatever stealing focus. I need to get my work done so I can go home.

devopsproject··on Ask HN: Developers with kids, how do you skill up?
You are distracted every five to ten minutes. If everyone on your team did this, nothing would get done. You are being extremely selfish and very inconsiderate of other people's time.
