Manufacturer seems to have played a role too by sticking to dosing they knew was ineffective and then pushing for higher doses which lead to big bonuses: http://www.latimes.com/projects/oxycontin-part1/
Pills were given out like candy, then restricted which caused demand for cheaper alternatives. Had the drug companies been regulated in the first place, we might be OK.
The pills aren't coming from mules or cartels, they are coming from US companies. The pill supply has to lowered.

Kermit, West Virginia. Population 392. They received over 9 million hydrocodone pills in a two year period.
In a 6 year period, the entire state of WV received 780 million pills. Over 400 pills for every man, woman, and child living in WV.
Seems like attacking the supply is great place to start. WV doesn't need this many pills.
The OP asked why Microsoft didn't find this first. The answer is too many things to test. The entire premise of the argument is insane. If microsoft had a viable way to test ALL of the their products for ANY problem, don't you think they would be doing that?
His position is absurd. Microsoft could have found it. The thing stopping them is the incredible number of tests you would need to perform to find them all.
Here are some recent events:
russian planes flying into Swedish air space
russian sub in water near Stockholm
Norway beefing up their border troops
etc.
If the two ladies are upset, they should address the issue with Travis the next time they hang out.
So until you start delivering bags of rice yourself or dedicate your life to non-profits and the collective good, remember that every time you point a finger three are pointing back at you.
There are real complaints here.
You seem wholly unqualified to make this type of judgement
I've never implied this. You are making severe assumptions and putting words into my mouth
My longview is pretty simple: We can do both. Just because some of us are working for a longer term goal doesn't give you any moral authority to demonize us. It is foolish and arrogant.
You are putting words in my mouth. We know people are staving and need access to food, clean water, and sanitation.
If the supercomputer could be used to feed a million people today, we would be doing it. It would be stupid not to. Just because some are taking the long view doesnt me we are out of touch elite.
