dosshell··on Linus Torvalds says GPL v3 violates everything that GPLv2 stood for (2014)
You can also dual license your work. If a new license version appears you can read it through and then decide if you want to distribute your work with that license _too_.
dosshell··on Show HN: DragonRuby Game Toolkit
Unity does also support C extensions... But due to cross platform mess it is not so popular (i guess).

> double the amount of sprites

It sounds a bit low? My experience is that with instancing and 2d array textures (2d games usally uses spritesheets) can be much much faster then 2x. I would guess 20x-200x faster than unity.

dosshell··on One Year Alone in Forest of Sweden Building a Log Cabin
You call the owner of the forest. Many owners I know think it is fun that a younger population wants to be in the forest and wouldn't hesitate to sell off a bit for that purpose.
dosshell··on Kalman Filter
Yes, the KF was developt for the Apollo project by Kalman. As input in the update steps they used the IMU and the astronauts had to manually measure angles to specific stars.

Almost like old sea travelers!

dosshell··on Kalman Filter
Kalman filter are an optimal solution to the linear problem (PF are not). If you do not have a linear problem, of course there may be better alternatives. PF and KF solves different problems.

The radioactive strength and decay time is not that long, right?

My wife showed me once a chart of both founding and the estimation of the fusion spark (plus net energy). It explained pretty good why the estimation had changed.

My impression is that if humanity had focused on the question and not the politics we would already have fusion capacity.

But do not forget, we still do not know if it is financial benefit to use fusion in the future.

English is not my native language but in many germanic languages "not only" does not mean "not" but rather the opposite of "not".

I interpret the writer as referring to the democracy index. [0]

U.S. is at place 25 and is categorized as a flawed democracy, lower than Canada and some European countries (but far from all).

What does the author mean with "TCP packages"? How is it different from the IP packet?
dosshell··on Dutch flying car gets permission to drive on European roads
This is also how the UAVs in the 90s did it too, but with a screwdriver instead.
dosshell··on Dutch flying car gets permission to drive on European roads
There is no engine connected to the blades, it is an autogyro. They are not so uncommon here in Europe, most of them I have seen has been home-build.

Off-topic: some UAV prototypes developed in Europe during the 80s and the beginning of 90s was of the type autogyro, because of its simplicity and short take-off and landing distances.

dosshell··on Ask HN: What are some good methods to prove current time?
I don't understand how this proves anything? What is stopping me from holding up the USB cable two years later?
dosshell··on Tesla hacker reveals what driver-facing camera is looking for
Seeing machines and Smart Eye are DMS (driver monitoring systems). They have only acces to 1 camera in these cars and outputs details of the driver (gaze direction, head pose, eyelid etc.). What and how the outputs are used for are up to the OEM.
dosshell··on Tesla hacker reveals what driver-facing camera is looking for
How did you try them? I thought they were hidden deep down away behind the OEM layers?

I have tried their the demo systems at several occasions, (they have been developong them in 20y) but not comma.ai's.

For example they calculate the opening speed of your eyelid with high precision, the gaze direction output is within a few degrees of error. You can almost cover your complete face and it will still track your head pose with extreme precision. The list of outputs are long. Pupils, glasses, faceid, blinks (velocity, duration), drowsiness /, perclose, the 3d geometry of the head, facemasks, gender, and a lotbof aggregatet values.

But comma.ai maybr has this too?

dosshell··on Tesla hacker reveals what driver-facing camera is looking for
Correction: atleast both seeing machines and smart eye has system in cars today that are more advanced. (GM, BMW etc)
dosshell··on Tesla hacker reveals what driver-facing camera is looking for
There was a demo at CES this year that detected the position of a dog in the car [0]. let's hope it gets to market soon.

dosshell··on Tesla hacker reveals what driver-facing camera is looking for
Yes, head, eye, eyelid, glasses and facemask trackers do exist now in cars. BMW, GM etc. Face recognition, speak detection (who is speaking) and drowsiness is coming very soon as far as I know.

The car will know when you changed driver last time etc.

dosshell··on Tesla hacker reveals what driver-facing camera is looking for
No it won't do that directly. Even if it is longer then a blink. And the reason for that is false positives. It is _very_ hard to see the difference between a person looking down and when the person is closing the eye.

The system usally have an EXTENDED_EYE_CLOSURE signal that is triggered after a certain time (together with a quality value of this signal). So not directly, but yes, close too.

But it is still tricky. What happens if you start blinking and then the camera get covered. Should it warn? It can not always warn if it loses tracking.

How should it warn? Disturbing the driver can actually cause accidents.

dosshell··on Fibers, Oh My
I dont't agree. I'm not used to implement schedulers and concurrent systems and I wrote my own fiber-system in C a couple of months back (https://gitlab.com/dosshell/tinyfiber) after listening to the famous talk from Christian (mentioned in article).

Its a bit messy, sure. But I don't think I have any subtle bugs and was not hard to debug. Performance is good too.

What I want to say is: it is easy to do, even I can :P

> a sort of social-distancing lite where most businesses, including schools, stay open

Not true. Schools and buisinesses have not been open as usal. High school is closed and many, all people i know, work from home. There are restrictions in travelling and not to meet people.

> The Swedish model is often described as a plan to develop herd immunity, wherein a large enough portion of the population has developed resistance to an infection,

Not true. I don't know how many times this has been denied by the government. The plan is not, ans have never been herd immunity. The government does not even believe it is possible to achieve that.

dosshell··on Ask HN: Heartbeat from ECG?
You don't need that fancy tools. An RGB camera with simple linear filters will give you an rPPG signal if you are stationary. And then you can trigger a sound from each detected top.

You can also buy cheap ppg readers that are very easy to use.

However: one defect by using PPG is that you will have a delay between heartbeat and signal due to the time for the blood to move.

Or you could work on the fear...
