dosshell··on Show HN: Arxiv Vanity – Read academic papers from Arxiv as responsive web pages
I believe in most countries only a court can decide if a site is illegal or not. Not you. And as far as I know this is true in both France [0] and Germany[1].

IANAL.

[0] I got the impression it was a French site

[1] just guessing where you live

dosshell··on Audi claims the A8 is the first production car to reach Level 3 autonomy
I just want to say congratulations to all of the engineers behind it who are reading this thread! Im impressed!

Often when I see a big project come to an end I can not stop thinking about all the hours work put into something which didn't made it to the end. Features they had to abandon or wait with until next revision.

Im very curious how good it will work and will try to get the hands on it as quickly as possible. :)

dosshell··on Police sent warrant to Facebook for information on Philando Castile’s girlfriend
In a real democracy it is common to let both sides speak, even in newspapers.

If someone shares one sides point of view in a forum I think many, including me, wants to know how the other sides look at it and let me make up my own conclusion. In this case I do not agree with the police side and I get frustrated and angry when I read it, but still I want to understand the complete picture. I think censoring speak because you do not agree is a very bad path, I stand by Voltaire.

I fail to understand what propaganda on ones door has to do with a discussion about a specific event at a news forum?

dosshell··on Police sent warrant to Facebook for information on Philando Castile’s girlfriend
What's wrong with sharing both sides point of view? Even if one side is pure evil, should we not at least give it an opportunity to defend it self?
dosshell··on Sweden Has a Sub So Deadly the US Navy Hired It to Play Bad Guy (2014)
So, a small country develop their own high tech sub, airplane [0] , ships [1], special modification of one of the most advanced tanks [2], special order helicopter from EU project, advanced artillery [3] and light tank [4]. And I probably missed a few other expensive toys.

So how good are their defense? ~1 week will it take to invade Sweden according to them self... With the help of the militia. [5].

My concern is that they basically just develop expensive military stuff because they want to feed the industry. A political dance with money.

dosshell··on Ask HN: What “new” programming languages will you be using in 2017
I will actually take the time to learn nasm and do some low stuff. The goal is to explore real mode and bios interrupts.
dosshell··on Night vision glasses: nanocrystals allow direct vision into infrared
Did they take the biggest night googles available for the "traditional" picture?

Those I have used from the military where much much smaller (but they did not have autofocus).

I agree with some of the comments here: that it is misleading that they are not passive and that no prototype exist.

Even if it is a good idea I would never invest in a company which is not always totally honest, even in headings and pictures.

dosshell··on Doom on the MacBook Pro Touch Bar [video]
I'm sorry to tell you it is even more complicated than if it can run doom. Does this count as doom?

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TuupoxmeQ6U

Another definition i have seen is the QWERTY keyboard restriction. If i remember correctly some good calculators from Texas Instruments have abc keyword to be allowed on some big math tests in US. (Or is this maybe just a myth in Europe?)

dosshell··on Why you should never use Upwork
Maybe I am a little to suspicious but is it not strange that their 5stars reviews comes in bursts at https://www.trustpilot.com/review/wiperecord.com

Months with nothing and then a couple of good reviews. Like: Oh! We haven't given ourself 5stars in a while, lets add some.

dosshell··on Ask HN: Can you suggest some IOT project to work on for undergraduate CS course
My suggestion is based on that only you really know what to do but maybe we can help you find it. Begin with you daily life and solve a problem.

For example: Do you need to water the flowers? Make it automatic with online ui.

Do you always need to check if your door is really locked? Make a lock status report system.

Do you missing people trying to ring the bell at your house because you are in the garage? Make a camera which sends a mms with a picture of who is infront of the door.

Solve something you want to be solved!

dosshell··on Volvo's Self Driving Pilot in Hands of Customers
This is Volvo's official information page (including a promotion video): http://www.volvocars.com/au/about/innovations/intellisafe/au...
dosshell··on Volvo's Self Driving Pilot in Hands of Customers
It is not the same. This is a full overtake system where the driver are supposed to not pay attention to the driving at all. What you are talking about is a driver assistant system.
dosshell··on Volvo's Self Driving Pilot in Hands of Customers
"Plan to" as in they will do it if nothing very strange happens. The cars are currently driving around here in Gothenburg with Volvo employees behind the wheels. The cars will however only work for some well tested roads, eg. the big transit roads around the city.
dosshell··on 256-bit GDDR5 in Polaris 10
How can they tell that it is GDDR5 and not GDDR5X ?
dosshell··on Microsoft demos 'holoportation' 3D presence tech with HoloLens
As far as i know only dev-kits are out and the Hololens is not consumer ready. The screen size is something they need to fix before then, i totally agree, but that problem is of a "beta hardware" type of problem and something time can easily solve - I believe.
dosshell··on iPhone SE
>With 64‑bit desktop-class architecture

Desktop-class architecture!? What do they really mean? For me desktop architecture is x86-64...

dosshell··on Skylake CPUs have 'inverse Hyper Threading' to boost single-thread performance
I strongly believe that if this feature exists Intel would be making a big deal of it to get people to upgrade - not hide it. Therefor this is nonsense.
dosshell··on Show HN: Automated algorithm translation for Python, C++, C#, JS
It looks awesome! I really like the idé to write once and compile to everything. However I do not have much experience in this field. How does this differ from the current popular approaches, example Haxe? When should I use this and when should I use Haxe?
dosshell··on Image Processing 101
Strictly speaking image processing is image in -> image out. And image analysis is image in -> data out. The author gives the expression that everything is image processing. Not a big thing but it helps to know the difference if you want to take the correct course :)
dosshell··on Sweden Is a Tech Superstar from the North
If it gets dark outside at 6pm and you have nothing todo, you learn how to use the computer the government gave your parents a discount on. Almost everyone, even really poor people, bought a computer and internet because of this. I think that's the most brilliant thing our leaders did in the last 20 years.

dosshell··on Show HN: Minimal MVC Framework for Unity3D
You know that Unity3D is the domain name for the website and the engine is just called Unity. "MVC for Unity3D" makes no sense.
dosshell··on Why I find IEEE 754 frustrating
Can't we make an opensource description of the IEEE754 which resolves the issues? While the spec doesn't describe the same thing it should be no legal problems - right?
