drawfloat··on X Didn't Fix Grok's 'Undressing' Problem. It Just Makes People Pay for It
Drawing indecent photos of children with Photoshop is also illegal in lots of countries and any company creating them for profit would be liable.
drawfloat··on UK government exempting itself from cyber law inspires little confidence
This is such a poor understanding of what happened in Rotherham, not least of all nobody has ever claimed the UK government itself was the one running the trafficking ring, it borders on fantasy. I’m guessing from your spelling you’re not from the UK, so I’d question where you’re getting your information on this, and your understanding of how the UK public sector and government is structured.

The corruption in South Yorkshire Police and Rotherham council (neither of which are part of HMG) in the 1990s and early 2000s also has absolutely nothing to do with UK Government cyber security policy in 2026.

drawfloat··on "If Starmer is successful in banning X in Britain, I will move forward in . . ."
This is wrong, they did add proof of age checks.
drawfloat··on If you care about security you might want to move the iPhone Camera app
I have this in iOS 16 so it’s not new (and not fixed it sounds like) sadly.
drawfloat··on Is Proton leaving Switzerland?
Snowden revealed PRISM meant the US government just had straight access to servers of major providers, so they didn’t need any of this. I would be shocked if the NSA hadn’t stepped up its data collection efforts in the last decade in secret.
drawfloat··on Is Mozilla trying hard to kill itself?
It's too much money for a non-profit that is failing by all possible metrics and is saying it is struggling for revenue.
drawfloat··on FTX insider Caroline Ellison has been moved out of prison
This seems such a bizarre statement to make about Europeans, which isn’t…in anyway true? Europeans start working straight out of school, college, or university same as the US?
drawfloat··on The Walt Disney Company and OpenAI Partner on Sora
_In America_.

Disney is meant to be a global company. If offensive videos happen this will backfire in many regions.

drawfloat··on Imgur geo-blocked the UK, so I geo-unblocked my network
The UK ICO has nothing to do with the EU.
drawfloat··on A new Google model is nearly perfect on automated handwriting recognition
And then refers to it as almost perfect. Being unable to follow a basic command like that means it is “nearly usable” rather than “nearly perfect”.
drawfloat··on A new Google model is nearly perfect on automated handwriting recognition
If I ask a model to transcribe something exactly and it outputs an interpretation, that is an error and not a success.
drawfloat··on OpenAI says over a million people talk to ChatGPT about suicide weekly
I'd be careful going around advertising yourself publicly as banned for that, even if it's not true.
drawfloat··on Microsoft disables File Explorer preview for downloaded files by default
Aren’t most files used on an operating system day to day downloaded from the Internet? This feels like it completely kills that feature’s utility.
drawfloat··on Make any TypeScript function durable
Use client and use server aren’t great, but the fact they had to be declared at the top of a file was at least clear.

Starting to scatter magic strings throughout a code base feels like a real step back.

drawfloat··on Judge says body cameras for Chicago officers "was not a suggestion"
Requiring police to wear and use body cameras is judicial activism to achieve...?
drawfloat··on [dead]
There’s no evidence anything was false in the actual documentary.
drawfloat··on 4Chan Lawyer publishes Ofcom correspondence
Setting aside whether it’s true, that’s not a thought crime by any definition.
drawfloat··on AMD and Sony's PS6 chipset aims to rethink the current graphics pipeline
4K is big but certainly was not as big a leap forward as SD to HD
drawfloat··on Discord says 70k users may have had their government IDs leaked in breach
This applies to all users and isn’t related to OSA (though that will probably make leaks like this more likely).
drawfloat··on The death of industrial design and the era of dull electronics
Half of those are the same outlier iMac (note, from the 90s) as in the original article, and the rest are indeed grey boxes?
drawfloat··on Make any site multiplayer in a few lines. Serverless WebRTC matchmaking
No. If you are operating a p2p video chat site that is accessed by minors and you have no way for users to block or report content, then you are indeed going to face issues.

If a user is downloading a Linux image via bit torrent, or using WebRTC data channels to synchronise many clients using a p2p mechanism, what is the risk that needs age restricting?

This is what I meant, the OP is factually incorrect that just adding P2P technology to a service means it must age gate.

drawfloat··on Make any site multiplayer in a few lines. Serverless WebRTC matchmaking
Ofcom has a clear guide on how harmful to minors is defined. It is even clearly referenced in your own links:

https://www.ofcom.org.uk/siteassets/resources/documents/cons...

Your own links also reference the fact that moderation of content by platforms will allow them to comply with the law.

I don’t like this law and not here to defend its existence. But it is factually untrue just adding this would mean you also need to age verify users.

Case in point (which is not a rare use case), I use webrtc signalling to establish data connections in a multiplayer online game. Why would that require age verification when users are unable to send random content to one another?

drawfloat··on Make any site multiplayer in a few lines. Serverless WebRTC matchmaking
They do, but unlike what the OP claims, you do not need to age verify your site just because you added a social element. If the purpose is not to distribute pornography/other age restricted materials and you are able to moderate the site (ie: are not facebook scale), this is not required.

The law sucks but the misinformation around it is getting out of hand.

drawfloat··on Make any site multiplayer in a few lines. Serverless WebRTC matchmaking
This is factually untrue and either venting or wilfully ignorant of the actual law.
drawfloat··on Claude Opus 4 and 4.1 can now end a rare subset of conversations
Most of the non tech population know it as that website that can translate text or write an email. I would need to see actual evidence that anything more than a small, terminally online subsection of the average population thought LLMs were conscious.
drawfloat··on Is Chain-of-Thought Reasoning of LLMs a Mirage? A Data Distribution Lens
""Sam Altman says the perfect AI is “a very tiny model with superhuman reasoning".""

It is being marketed as directly related to human reasoning.

drawfloat··on The Quiet Disappearance of Skeptics in the AI Gold Rush
Skeptics think A.I. is an overhyped tool, not an existential risk. Why would they be shouting about it from the roof tops?

Plenty of comment sections with reasonable skeptical takes, they’re just not good headline fodder.

drawfloat··on Wikipedia loses challenge against Online Safety Act
The law was passed by the previous government and everyone assumed the next government would take great delight in reversing it.

I wouldn’t be so sure that any next government (which, by the way, there is still a non zero chance could be Labour) will necessarily reverse this. Maybe Reform would tweak the topics, but I’m not convinced any party can be totally trusted to reverse this.

drawfloat··on Online news publishers face extinction-level event from Google AI-powered search
This is like a news editor suggesting a future of development: zero bugs, never goes down, can be used anywhere, usable be anyone. Yes these all seem nice, but they're just a wishlist that is borderline impossible in practice.

Also personalisation of news is almost the number one 'hidden dopamine hooks', and in many ways the most insidious in its impact.

drawfloat··on “No tax on tips” is an industry plant
America has spent the last century proclaiming itself the greatest country on earth, whilst simultaneously causing untold political and social problems in "lesser countries" to its own benefit.

Some deep rooted resentment when an American criticises a place is natural.
