It’s funny how dropping “guys” is such low hanging D&I fruit but also so hard to do. I try to use “folks” and honestly have started saying y’all a lot.
Exactly. The only question here is can Uber/Lyft operate in an npv positive manner under these new regulations? If so, then they will and the regs hurt their margins in order to serve workers and that’s fine. If not, they’ll leave, and these people won’t have driving as a source of income.
Very true. I went to a large tech company after the small one in search of that. Unfortunately I didn’t see anyone in roles potentially ahead of mine where I’d look at their job and think “that’s what I want to work towards.” Now I have found that in my current role and I’m settling in for the long run to get there.
I don’t know that I agree. Mentorship is very important at the early stages of a career and I definitely missed out on it personally joining a small company out of college. Not sure exactly what OPs resume looks like but if it’s enough for him to transition to a mid size tech company that would have more structure around engineering, I would imagine that would be a fruitful move from both financial and educational perspectives.
I read this post as well and while I respect this person his claim is hugely anecdotal. What if some decision far above his pay grade resulted in COVID patients being rerouted from other NYC hospitals to his? That could easily explain his experience without the idea that COVID is rising again in NYC. I’ll wait for the data to come in personally. The data you linked does not show a material change.
Piercing the veil can occur for many different reasons, including some as simple as improperly kept notes of annual meetings. Consult with a lawyer to be sure every formality is followed.
Then they sit down at their first job and have to use Maya because it’s the standard and are behind. Or worse, can’t get a job because they’ve never used it.
That’s not the only factor. I have a home office and can’t wait to get back. I work in an industry that’s all about relationships and those are hard to build remotely. I just started a new role and there’s no way I could ever progress upward in this state.
So true. I cannot fathom how governments don’t think about how corporations, which are rational actors with clear goals, will respond to regulations. This Uber thing is simple and boils down to only one question: can Uber operate in an npv positive fashion with drivers on w2s? If yes, they will, if no, they’ll leave.
I’ve found that most people I speak to can’t accept that most issues are complex shades of gray. It’s all our team or their team based on whatever news channel they subscribe to. No one takes time to dig below the surface and think for themselves.
All good points. But is it really better from a returns standpoint for Uber to cease California ops or was that just a ploy? If that move will make them the most money under the new regulatory regime, no one can compel them to operate.
Fair enough, obviously OP has the right to parent as he pleases. I think that my tinkering intuition has led me to many of my professional successes, and this talent was garnered by experimentation with computers as a child.
