That sounds a bit to me like why should you create Slack when you have irssi.
haraball··on Boundless Mind Wants to Fix America's Smartphone Addiction
The copy on your webpage[0] makes it seem like you "make any tech addictive" to me. So sounds like the press isn't that far off.

haraball··on Boundless Mind Wants to Fix America's Smartphone Addiction
From their web page:

> Boundless Mind makes it easy to hook your users.

That's not that this post's title made me think it was, which was something that make people put away their phones[0].

haraball··on Ask HN: What is your company's maximum vacation (at one time) policy?
For me it's the opposite. With ~3 weeks I manage to properly disconnect from work and recharge myself to get back. First week is winding down, second week is enjoying the time off, third week is looking forward to get started again.

I do take long weekends and the occational day off beside that though.

haraball··on Ask HN: What are you working on?
I'm building a quick feedback/correction web app for stuff you write. I'm also building a nap/meditation app that tracks your heart rate.

Both projects are built with React, with a side goal of staying up to date on the latest developments there.

haraball··on Complexity and Strategy
The flowchart of how Slack's notifications are working comes to mind: https://twitter.com/mathowie/status/837735473745289218
haraball··on Startups that debuted at Y Combinator W17 Demo Day 2
Breaker's app looks good, but I agree in that I hope they won't succeed. Their monetization strategy is to "own" podcasts and have people pay for access, if I understand correctly. Which podcasts do they have lined up for this? Will those podcasts still have ads in them? When will they start charging? Too many unanswered questions for me at this point which stops me from switching from my current podcast setup, and to advocate my friends to switch to this new "social" platform which might shut down when money runs out.

I pay for Spotify, Netflix etc. to avoid ads. Some podcasts manage to incorporate ads tastefully with respect for the listener. Others are not done that well, and produces the same horror as when you're used to Netflix and suddenly see how a show looks with frequent commercial breaks on a hotel TV.

Here's an idea: Crowdsourced ad-filtered podcast RSS streams you have to pay to access, where the profits go back to the podcasts themselves. Users mark the start and end of the ads in the podcast audio, and a podcast player skips those parts. That's something I would pay for, and hopefully would generate more money to the producers of podcasts than ads.

haraball··on The 30 Second Habit That Can Have a Big Impact on Your Life
The habit:

"Immediately after every lecture, meeting, or any significant experience, take 30 seconds — no more, no less — to write down the most important points. If you always do just this, said his grandfather, and even if you only do this, with no other revision, you will be okay."

haraball··on Extended Outage at Instapaper
What do you prefer with Pocket?

I've been an Instapaper user more or less since it launched. I have tried other services (like Pocket), but I've found their parsers inferior to Instapaper. Instapaper also seems to have focused more on the experience of reading, more than "supporting all kind of content". With the Instapaper plugin in Chrome it's quick to add articles to the reading list from twitter/HN/any page.

Two things on my wish list:

- Let me download my full history from their API and not just the last 500 articles

- Let me sort the reading list in their app on "last opened"

haraball··on Ask HN: What is your side project for 2017?
Instapaper and its app does this, been using it for many years now.
haraball··on Ask HN: Ever been hired through a “who's hiring” post?
Yep. Got hired by a German startup as a senior software developer, worked there remotely 3 years and quit last year. Our tech team grew from 3 to 10ish, and I think most were hired through a "who's hiring" post.
haraball··on Who Should a Startup Hire First?
After working 3 years each in 2 tech startups with mostly tech people, the missing link were in both someone to take care of the design, usability and user research of the products. Design was an afterthough ("Not enough work for a designer"), and usability was a not a known concept. Kind of hard to become a "viral" success when there's no feedback loop from the people you want as your users.

haraball··on Hit Reply – Episode 0: Yet Another Startup Podcast? [audio]
Season one and two were great! Too bad the third season got swamped in commercials and irrelevant stories. Wish I could pay to avoid the insane amounts of commercials that makes many promising podcasts unlistenable!
