int_handler··on “Subject: Urgent Warning”
IIRC, this is a very old post that has been making its rounds for some number of years now.
int_handler··on Dear GitHub
What was the story behind this anyway? I am having a hard time determining whether this was actually serious or were trying to parody feminist activism.
int_handler··on New development could lead to more effective incandescent lightbulbs
Can you elaborate on the heat dissipation issues?
int_handler··on Friends, Please Tell T-Mobile’s CEO About EFF
The problem is that while the tech-savvy are familiar with the EFF, the general public may not be as much. If he manages to turn the general public against the EFF, then consumers would lose one of their most outspoken advocates.
int_handler··on How the McLaren F1 Got Its Sound
Faking the transmission is really a bizarre move, but actually having a multiple-gear transmission in an electric racecar is actually not a bad idea. Formula-E cars have 5-speed sequential transmissions in order to maximize torque [1], and this may be coming to electric road cars as well [2].

int_handler··on Gaffer: Large-scale graph database by GCHQ
GitHub explicitly has a Name Squatting Policy [1] that states:

> Account names may not be inactively held for future use. GitHub account name squatting is prohibited. Inactive accounts may be renamed or removed by GitHub staff at their discretion.

I have been able to acquire a couple of GitHub names that have been inactive for several years by contacting GitHub support, and they usually reply within a day or so.

int_handler··on Gaffer: Large-scale graph database by GCHQ
It is curious to me why GCHQ didn't just contact GitHub to acquire github.com/gchq but instead decided to go with the long and cumbersome github.com/GovernmentCommunicationsHeadquarters. Perhaps it is a British thing [1].

int_handler··on Visual Studio Code is now open source
I'm pretty sure kup0 was referring to how Office has generally been in past versions. The latest version of Office are much better made and performant for the same reasons why VSC is well-made and performant: Microsoft has started taking these user experience issues a lot more seriously.
int_handler··on Show HN: Nixar – New design of Linux command line
This xkcd comic seems relevant: https://xkcd.com/1508/
int_handler··on Helping my students overcome command-line bullshittery (2014)
I think it is ineffective to only focus on command line "bullshittery" and not discuss API bullshittery. I think the problem of learning commands pales to the problem of learning poorly-designed APIs. One extreme example of this is the Windows Event Tracing API [1], but there are many more along the same vein.

int_handler··on OpenSSH for Windows update
This is exciting to hear.

I might be overly nitpicky, but holy inconsistent coding styles Batman: compare https://github.com/PowerShell/Win32-OpenSSH/blob/bafc1df7c5c... to the other source files.

int_handler··on What is online pornography doing to sexual tastes and youngsters’ minds?

the morals that come with it
You're assuming that all porn is immoral.

Another counterargument to your claim is that porn can provide an alternative to infidelity, which tends to mess up marriages to a greater extent.

Further, some of those societies already have many of these problems, such as objectifying women (which they do to a greater extent such as requiring them to cover their entire bodies), as a direct result of the culture being so closed in terms of sex.

int_handler··on What is online pornography doing to sexual tastes and youngsters’ minds?
Definitely agree.

What makes it difficult for many people to look at this phenomenon in a larger context is that it is much easier to be alarmist at anything sexual. Unfortunately, many parts of societies still view sex as something shameful and thus tend to attempt to avoid anything to do with it rather than having meaningful discussion about it.

int_handler··on What is online pornography doing to sexual tastes and youngsters’ minds?
Can you elaborate? There is potential risk of harm resulting for many other areas of personal developments as well.
int_handler··on What is online pornography doing to sexual tastes and youngsters’ minds?
Agreement are choices. When people have sex, they choose to agree to do so, hence the importance of consent.

I disagree that it is invalid to suggest that those who abstain from having sex due to reasons such as religious traditions lack certain aspects of personal development. For example, there are studies that show a clear correlation between abstinence education and _higher_ rates of teen pregnancy [1] and STI transmission rates [2].
