Fossil by sqlite think so as does Sapling by Facebook https://sapling-scm.com
itsafarqueue··on Hacker leaks millions more 23andMe user records on cybercrime forum
I’m one of the leaked. I’m highly technical, security literate. I use unique secure passwords for everything.

Fuck these guys. Fuck their bullshit misdirection.

This is the equivalent of corporate doxxing. Until individual execs in these mega-corps that piss in the face of their users bear individual consequence for this type of thing it’ll keep happening.

Because until then there’s no requirement to actually really give a shit. We’re grist in the money mill.

The lack of consequence has me seething more than the breach.

> Edit: the victim shaming in comments here is staggering.

Which is never happening. Alignment is closer to the problem of magic.

I cast a spell to knock the wand out of the hand of my opponent. How does the spell know what to do? Can it break the opponent’s hand? Just the thumb? Can it blow up their hand? Turn them into a frog with no thumbs? Stop their heart? Even if you limited it to “knock out”, what if the wand is welded to their hand, what then? How far can the spell go? Can it rip off the hand? If it can’t see any other option to complete the spell can it just end the universe to achieve your probable goal (neutralise the other wizard)?

Of course the spell just “knows” what I “mean”. And voila, wand is removed from opponent. Magic. This is the alignment problem.

Wow you.. really shot your argument in the foot. All those unjust laws were, you know, changed. They weren’t evaded. And there are mechanisms to challenge laws you don’t like that don’t involve simply deciding you’re not going to obey them. But those mechanisms involve real costs that tend to blow away the moralising of most crypto bros.
itsafarqueue··on Most demographers now predict that human population will plateau
Keep telling yourself that. Kids can be not just ok, not just good, not just great, but the best thing to happen to you in your life.

The studies you refer to regard subjective happiness at particularly difficult child rearing years.

Anecdata from older childless people, the emptiness of childless life once you’re beyond young adulthood is sobering and incredibly sad.

But yeah hold onto those studies that make you feel ok.

Doesn’t this turn on the definition of competition (in the license). I remember reading about a bunch of game and server tech being in very murky water following the license change.

If they ever decide to enter your specific business they have an automatic kill switch on you.

Another way to interpret these stats are that these MBAs are staggeringly good at what they do (extracting cash for themselves).
itsafarqueue··on Ask HN: Those who were broke and lost in life in 20s. How'd you find way again?
This is life, regardless of age, it just feels more pronounced in your 20s. The exceptions are not the rule. There is no arc to life. It’s ok to be lost. Debt is destructive, so try minimise it if you can. Not everyone can. No one has anything figured out, some people are circumstantially lucky and many of those accredit their success to a misguided but materially reinforced superiority complex. Try to find a source of happiness that doesn’t rely on money or someone else. If you can do that, the “way” doesn’t matter. You’re ok, keep going.
itsafarqueue··on I don’t buy “duplication is cheaper than the wrong abstraction” (2021)
This code golfing always boils down to “it depends”. Senior engineers by definition nod sagely and everyone else looks around nervously. It’s a tough break. Both approaches are correct and wrong. It depends.
