javascriptfan69··on Data centers in space makes no sense
100 x 100 is 10,000.
javascriptfan69··on Data centers in space makes no sense
Current cost to LEO is $1500 per kg

That would make your solar panel (40kg) around $60K to put into space.

Even being generous and assuming you could get it to $100 per kg that's still $4000

There's a lot of land in the middle of nowhere that is going to be cheaper than sending shit to space.

javascriptfan69··on Data centers in space makes no sense
Starlink provides a service that couldn't exist without the satellite infrastructure.

Datacenters already exist. Putting datacenters in space does not offer any new capabilities.

javascriptfan69··on X offices raided in France as UK opens fresh investigation into Grok
Social media should not allow algorithms to actively AMPLIFY disinformation to the public.

If people want to post disinformation that's fine, but the way that these companies push that information onto users is the problem. There either needs to be accountability for platforms or a ban on behavior driven content feeds.

People lying on the internet is fine. Social media algorithms amplifying the lie because it has high engagement is destroying our society.

The same way that social media has destabilized the USA.

By exposing people to a flood of misinformation and politically radicalizing content designed to maximize engagement via emotion (usually anger).

Remember when Elon Musk alleged that he was going to find a trillion dollars (a year) in waste fraud and abuse with DOGE? Did he ever issue a correction on that statement after catastrophically failing to do so? Do you think that kind of messaging might damage the trust in our institutions?

javascriptfan69··on xAI joins SpaceX
I am yet to see any actual numbers showing how the economics of this would work or compare to the cost of building traditional data centers.

Please come back to reality.

javascriptfan69··on xAI joins SpaceX
Have you considered that people smarter than you are scamming you?
javascriptfan69··on xAI joins SpaceX
I know this is hackernews and we like to get hyped up for new technologies, but, like, this just straight up isn't happening.

There is no benefit to putting data centers in space versus the giant cost that you would incur by doing so.

Can people please try and use their fucking brains for a second?

Are you a bot or are you just stupid?
javascriptfan69··on House of Lords Votes to Ban UK Children from Using Internet VPNs
"If smoking is so bad then why are you smoking?"

Because I'm addicted like everyone else.

We will try everything except regulating the algorithmic content feeds themselves.
javascriptfan69··on ChatGPT is getting ads. Sam Altman once called them a 'last resort.'
"This is the worst AI is going to be"
javascriptfan69··on A supersonic engine core makes the perfect power turbine
I think a 42MW turbine might run into some permitting issues regarding safe noise levels.
javascriptfan69··on A supersonic engine core makes the perfect power turbine
This article feels like the perfect distillation of a uniquely American problem.

Some weird tech startup proposing a novel solution based on a product that isn't even in it's production phase yet. Lots of pretty 3d renders and a wall of (what appears to be AI written) corpo-speak proposing some crazy technology that will revolutionize x.

It looks cool -- don't get me wrong -- but how is this going to get power online faster than just installing solar and batteries?

javascriptfan69··on How private equity is changing housing
Sorry, but this is just a bad idea. It's classic populist slop.

The biggest driver in housing prices is under supply. The main source of under supply is individual home owners who consistently vote against good zoning to protect their economic interests.

Corporations do not have the votes to strangle supply like individuals do.

javascriptfan69··on U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify swastikas, nooses as hate symbols
Literally, what the fuck are you talking about?
javascriptfan69··on CBP is monitoring US drivers and detaining those with suspicious travel patterns
Are you sure it's liberals downplaying these events? Or is it conservatives amplifying these events because they're politically useful?

I'm pretty sure everybody has condemned Zarutska's death.

Remember that Joe Biden had a border bill that Donald Trump told republicans to kill because Trump wanted to keep the border as a election issue.

javascriptfan69··on Blue Origin lands New Glenn rocket booster on second try
And NASA put a man on the moon in the 60s.

What is your point?

javascriptfan69··on Study: MRI contrast agent causes harmful metal buildup in some patients
Is this a study in rats? Is there any data beyond 48 hours?

The concentrations outside of the injection site are vanishingly small. And I would consider 48 hours to be pretty quick. If it was still around after a week I would be concerned. Not really sure what I'm supposed to take away from this.

javascriptfan69··on Populism and economic prosperity
Sorry, but if you don't know what anti-establishment means then you're too uninformed to be part of this conversation.

Wikipedia has a great definition if you care.

javascriptfan69··on Populism and economic prosperity
Read the original definition you're responding to.

The "elite" is referring to "the establishment"

The "deep state" and the "swamp" represent the establishment. You also have people like RFK Jr whose entire claim to fame is questioning the legitimacy of scientific institutions.

javascriptfan69··on Populism and economic prosperity
Good faith argument. Well done.
javascriptfan69··on Populism and economic prosperity
Drain the swamp. The deep state. Etc. These are pseudonyms for "The elite".
