joel_feather··on Feedback on my iPhone App: Underwear
Alright, thanks a lot, I'll implement those in the update!
joel_feather··on Feedback on my iPhone App: Underwear
Thanks for the info. How important would you rate the not scrolling through problem? Important, or it can wait?
joel_feather··on The only alternative is to work harder
This is not right. Work in a manner that the work you are doing can be spun off and will continue to work on its own, leaving you free to do something new that will build on top of that.

Hi HN, I'd like some criticism of my iPhone app. I'm a bit ashamed of it, and yes, it's not rocket science, but it has been in the top 100 in the lifestyle section for close to 3 months, and brings in a decent income. Check the child comment of this for promo codes to try it out.
joel_feather··on Look What Tumblr's Done With All Its Money
This seems like personal animosity to me.
joel_feather··on Picwing (YC S08) and the importance of print photos
Why are they making an android app first, and an iPhone app second?
joel_feather··on Ask HN: Anyone moved outside of the US to bootstrap your business?
I'm currently setting up an office in Shenzhen in china, and the programmers really are high quality, and you pay them about $400 a month. It's an excellent way to keep your costs low and grow quickly - living space is nice and cheap, for the office I pay $300 a month in a space that can seat 6.

If you want more info, just send me an email! I'd like more guys to join in, so I can get bigger and nicer places. If you are up for some travel and want to work in an office, it's perfect!

joel_feather··on Guy Kawasaki: A Dozen Don’ts for Entrepreneurs
Working with your spouse needs a special kind of person on both sides. Most people would not succeed with this, some would. Just because you would does not mean most would.
joel_feather··on IPhone prototype goes missing; Chinese worker investigated, commits suicide
He did it because everyone in the company knew his name as the guy who would possibly ruin the contract and jobs of everyone who worked there.

The face loss would be terrible, the number of high ups in the company talking to him must have put him under massive and immense pressure.

joel_feather··on Ask HN: Updated recommendation on Rails versus Django?
Trust me, Django is almost dead. The hype around Django is completely dead and existing developers are using it, but new developers are not jumping on ship. In 6 years there will be a serious Django shortage of maintanance personell.

Stick with rails and don't make the silliest mistake of your life.

joel_feather··on Stupider Than You Realize
Understanding a bar chart or a pie chart is something you learned at some point. It takes a while to learn to inteprete these things.

Most people are not dumb. They are rather smart, but they focus their thoughts on the things they have interest in. In other things, they do not pay attention.

joel_feather··on RIP Michael Jackson
That's just so...shocking. It always seemed like these type of people stay around forever to be made fun off and prodded - and then when you read about their death.

It brings things into perspective - we're all just blobs of flesh, here by chance, and we will all be gone, washed away and forgotten before very long.

joel_feather··on Wind could power the entire world
That must be the most uninformed thing that I've read in my life. How is the map of electricity cables between chad and congo?

Are you aware that wind power needs special sites? And you cannot just move it beside where you want it?

joel_feather··on Wind could power the entire world
Wind power is only available in certain parts of the world. Distribution would be a massive problem. Thousands of miles of cables and transformers are not easy to maintain.
joel_feather··on Japanese addresses: No street names. Block numbers.
The interesting part about having spent years in Africa, Europe, Asia and America is that even when I learn something like this, it is mildly interesting, but does not seem to have any effect on me.

I feel like I am jaded - too used to being confronted by the new.

It's almost like travelling too much has taken away the suprise of travel for me.

joel_feather··on Bumpy Ride for Boeing's 787 Dreamliner
This is the core problem with outsourcing that we will also face in the software industry - when groups work isolated from one another - the things they produce get difficult to integrate and arrive with very different quality.

Outsourcing is really not going to take over manufacturing. It will have its place, but it has to be carefully controlled and selected - not everything can be outsourced.

joel_feather··on Bumpy Ride for Boeing's 787 Dreamliner
I don't think the article is accurate - usually airplane seats are purchased by the airline (from another company) and not by the manufacturer - and in this size of planes, the TV is usually in the seats.
joel_feather··on HN: How does one get feedback on comments?
It's really not that important why your comment got up or downvoted. So don't get all worked up about it. Just smile, and go write a new comment on something else.
joel_feather··on NY man sues dating website Match.com for deception
It is deception. If you pay to contact a person, but the person has no way of responding, then you have been deceived. You cannot even tell the person to upgrade or so, since you cannot contact the person.
joel_feather··on A book suggestion: Founders That Almost Made It
And I'm sure your web based todo list will have the level of impact as gates company...
joel_feather··on Ask HN: Thoughts on performance-enhancing drugs?
Find people to compete against. Start with the bottom of the class.
joel_feather··on Small UI Changes = Big Results
The results are small. 2% change in something that is fluctuating anyways is minor - the numbers are unimportant, a 2% change does not qualify as big results.
joel_feather··on Review HN: 1clickwebpage - the easiest way to build a webpage
It's not very good. You want the cold honest truth, right? Your attention to detail is very lacking - the details are what make the difference between average and good, and right now you are slightly below average in your attention to detail.
joel_feather··on Netbooks: Small but disruptive
It's a small and cheap laptop that runs everything people need. There is nothing strange about people wanting it. If I sold a small and cheap car that got me where I wanted, people would buy it too.
joel_feather··on Is Twitter Dead? Yes and No
Twitter is where all the IRC people now are.
joel_feather··on The Revolution Will Be Twittered
The united states has a huge vested interest in this reelection failing. I prefer to withhold my opinion till I hear from BOTH sides of the conflict, and not just from the side that aligns with western interests.
joel_feather··on No IE onboard Windows 7 in Europe
There are several roads leading to rome, there is no need to use the highway.
joel_feather··on [dead]
How about this radical idea: Once in a while, a moderator marks a comment which is reasonable but contains an unpopular opinion as a 'trap'. Anyone who mods it down gets a zap of -100 karma. Will make people think about their downmoding before doing it.
