koder2016··on Language complexity, measured by how many rules GitHub's .gitignore has
Most developers don't know the difference between IDE, language, library, framework, platform and technology.
koder2016··on Hello Lua
It's transpilers all the way down.
koder2016··on Being a Developer After 40
He is talking about daring bets on technologies with a potential. Then insists you learn Node.js. If anything my bet is that JS is not worth learning at all because future is all about WebAssembly (and LLVM effectively - he is right about that).
koder2016··on The second annual F# survey
The truth is that F#'s features are not that compelling to justify the move, ML syntax is too different and R# tooling is not there and never going to be.
koder2016··on Why younger people can’t afford a house
This topic is specifically avoided in the government's anti-brexit propaganda.
koder2016··on Obama Forgives Student Debt Of 400,000 Americans
Translation: money got redistributed from net tax payers to net tax non-payers.
koder2016··on Tinker with a Neural Network in Your Browser
To be honest, if it works in Chrome then it covers > 90% of people who would possibly be interested.
koder2016··on A Healthy Hatred of OOP, or the principles of my message-driven framework
If the framework is factored well, then you can plug-in a synchronous single-threaded message delivery when debugging.
koder2016··on A Healthy Hatred of OOP, or the principles of my message-driven framework
> Objects just aren't supposed to be reaching into each other with 'getters' and 'setters' and messing with information.

In pure Actor Model adding two numbers would probably involve 2+ actors, yet Erlang is not doing this for some reason... I guess on a lower level hardcoding messages makes complete practical sense.

koder2016··on Stephen Fry hits out at ‘infantile’ culture of trigger words and safe spaces
Maybe there was a custom where all blood was extracted from victims' bodies and spread over the ground? Only that would make it most bloody.
koder2016··on Your Life
> ...advantageous for the species...

What about saving premature babies and babies with congenital diseases?

koder2016··on Performance Culture
Premature optimisation counterculture.

Also, when is M# / Midori going to ship?

koder2016··on Google may be considering Swift as a ‘first class’ language for Android
Won't help performance, that's for sure. Anyway, the post doesn't mention Dart, so has no credibility whatsoever.
koder2016··on Nature Prefers Hexagons
Vanadium tends to "like" them as well:

koder2016··on Object-Oriented Programming is Bad
Knives are bad because they can cut your fingers... Don't get me started on fire!
koder2016··on Two out of three developers are self-taught and other trends
They are misinterpreting the results. Everyone I know who has a degree in computer science and is good at it is still self-taught.
koder2016··on How to reduce the cognitive load of your code
Being a pessimist I consider it immoral.
koder2016··on How to reduce the cognitive load of your code
A fashionable framework on your CV will get you an interview, while claiming that the code was simple won't. It's as immoral as objective reality is.
koder2016··on Co.cycles – Search Engine for Open Source Code
Are you betting on ".cycles" domain to appear in future?
koder2016··on Smartwatch firm Pebble lays off 25% of its staff
It's like building a company around Tamagotchi only without something as revolutionary.
koder2016··on Ask HN: How do I get started with Algo trading?
> I'd recommend doing the same...

Sadly this advice only applies to USA... E.g. UK has such an over-abundance of IT workforce that tech salaries are significantly below US despite comparable cost of living.

koder2016··on Apple March 2016 Keynote – 10am PDT
Alternative theories:

1) They have a limited streaming capacity.

2) They gave up on expanding their user base.

koder2016··on Type hints – a mediocre programmer's reaction (2015)
Exactly, there is a difference between torture (JavaScript) and masochism (Python).
koder2016··on Giving up on test-first development
> I’m sure that TDD purists would say that I’m not doing it right so I’m not getting the real benefits of TDD.

"You are not doing it right! Take this 3-day course for a grand and buy these books. Also hire a TDD/Scrum/Agile coach for your team for a few months. There you go! (in Eric Cartman's voice)."

koder2016··on Lisp Flavoured Erlang 1.0 released after 8 years of development
Exactly, Erlang is a DSL for distributed applications. There is not much point to use it for anything else.
koder2016··on Experimental support for WebAssembly in V8
Developed by free-roaming coders fed on organic-certified food.
koder2016··on London’s startup scene is getting more sophisticated
> Perhaps I am bias as I have enough savings/income from an existing small business...

Yes.

koder2016··on Ask HN: Who is most likely to develop true AI?
Some less-known bio-tech startup in 50 years on an island in neutral waters. It's easier to improve the existing solution.
koder2016··on Ask HN: Who is most likely to develop true AI?
Let's hope that amateur will also have a powerful personal cloud.
koder2016··on Ask HN: Who is most likely to develop true AI?
Upvoted, because maybe for him/her 'foreseeble' means a year.
