lambda_dn··on Announcing Actix Web v4.0
Google and most other software kings chooses C++ for backend. If you think you know better than them feel free to use the hype lang of the day. Rust will be gone in a few years.
lambda_dn··on Announcing Actix Web v4.0
We looked into Rust at our company (top 100) and it's clear it's not ready for production systems. It just puts developers into a huge tar pit fighting with the compiler for anything more than a simple hello world app. If it actually lived up to it's hype it would have been used to rewrite browsers, servers, OSes etc. But C/C++ are still the kings of system programming.
lambda_dn··on Announcing Actix Web v4.0
Nearly 100 open issues on Github. It's not something you want to use in production.
lambda_dn··on Announcing Actix Web v4.0
With the latest C++ features (lambdas, co routines, smart pointers) it seems Rust is a gratuitous effort to solve a problem that is already solved.

Seriously look at modern C++ it is very easy to develop high performance software in a modern language.

lambda_dn··on Postman Now Supports gRPC
Don't ever for an interview at Google they will laugh you out the room.
lambda_dn··on Postman Now Supports gRPC
Bloatware that is a heave ugly GUI wrapper over cli tools like curl. Learn bash scripting and you will have unlimited power and speed vs this crap.

lambda_dn··on How big was the Tonga eruption?
Wondering if any ships were destroyed by the eruption the scale makes me think there had to be?

Could Volcano eruptions be Earth's way of stabilizing climate change? i.e. sea water gets warmer and is no longer keeping the eruptions from occurring. Then the eruptions causes a drop in temperature due to the ash in the atmosphere?

lambda_dn··on .NET Hot Reload Support via CLI
It's basically the old, "Let's run it up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes it." If no one complained about hot reload being a proprietary feature after being presented as a free improvement in the SDK then they wouldn't have reversed gear.
lambda_dn··on .NET Hot Reload Support via CLI
Microsoft are a lost company.

They fumbled the cell phone era They half heartedly entered the hardware business with poor results. They have a few golden gooses that could be disrupted at any time (Windows, Office).

The biggest asset is dotnet and if they fumble that they will go down hard.

lambda_dn··on Downsides of Offline First
It's not worth it, have a internet connection is more ubiquitous every day with Wifi, 4/5G and coming soon Low orbit satellite grids.

Trying to engineer your app to work offline causes complexity in the design and implementation for a issue that might never be an issue for most customers.

Assuming your app is pretty crippled when it can't access the cloud.

What's next making your app still work if there is no display by screen reading?

lambda_dn··on The open calendar, task and note space is a mess
Orgmode is praised, rightly, but the average user is never going to, or be able to use it.
lambda_dn··on Golang vs. C# (.NET 5.0) at Benchmarks Game
Azure functions are one small part of Azure. Im talking about Azure Dev ops for example which is deeply integrated in the tooling. Including source control/product backlogs/pipelines/testing etc.
lambda_dn··on Golang vs. C# (.NET 5.0) at Benchmarks Game
Microsoft created .NET and Azure and a lot of the tooling so the integration is tight, now that it's multi platform and with Rider (multiplatform .NET IDE) being as good as if not better than Visual Studio there is nothing stopping it.
lambda_dn··on Ask HN: What Apple alternatives are you switching to?
None, I don't have CSAM on my phone and never will have so why should I care. If it helps reduce these crimes im all for it.
lambda_dn··on What to expect after the eviction moratorium
You don't have to pay your debts now, but the downside is your credit rating takes a dive yet loans are still made everyday.
lambda_dn··on What to expect after the eviction moratorium
Everyone would take huge loans and bet on the stock market knowing they never needed to pay them off. It would need to be announced and executed at the same time.

NASA would have spent 2 trillion and 50 years to get to this stage. SpaceX's rapid iterations and fail fast methodology might save the human species
lambda_dn··on WSL Hello Sudo: Face Recognition of Windows Hello on Windows Subsystem for Linux
I would be on KDE if I didn't have to use Visual Studio for my day job (project is still not fully .NET core). But WSL is a good compromise I use it as my shell for all git, dotnet related stuff.
lambda_dn··on Bit (1.0) – a modern Git CLI in Go
Sure! Using Fish shell run the code below. abbr creates and abbreviation (slightly different from an alias and imho much more useful), see https://fishshell.com/docs/current/cmds/abbr.html

My git checkout abbr requires git,fzf to be installed

abbr --add ck 'git branch -a | string replace -a \'origin/\' \'\' | string replace -a \'remotes/\' \'\' | sort -u | fzf | read branch; git checkout $branch'

To use just type ck and then you can narrow the branch list by typing some letters, then arrow keys to select the branch hit enter, boom.

lambda_dn··on Bit (1.0) – a modern Git CLI in Go
Using a modern shell like fish and cli tools like fzf, sed, sort etc together to create abbreviations (not aliases in fish) give you 100x more features than this.

I type ck and get a fzf list of local and remote branches I can fuzzy search and select to checkout.

lambda_dn··on AirPods as a Platform
No I'm serious, wasn't reflecting on your comment. Im not a doctor so not sure if air pressure in the ear canal could be detected and how much a human can control it. But it would be easier than voice or touch from the users point of view.
