I can't understand why people would trust a CEO that regularly lies about product timelines, product features, his own personal life, etc. And that's before politicizing his entire kingdom by literally becoming a part of government and one of the larger donations of the current administration.

I am an American and can appreciate the shortcomings of my country. I also have the ability to see the shortcomings of China as well. Do you see the irony that I asked to reflect on China's history and you instead list things you don't like about the US?

For those with a morbid curiosity, check out "This is Actually Happening" podcast. It is almost always told by the victim and so where other podcasts feel exploitative, it feels reflective and insightful.

Good on them. It always feels like " But other than that, Mrs Lincoln enjoyed the play" watching people rationalize why they are still on Twitter or use Grok

And the next question is what have they some with power historically, and what are they liable to do in the future with said power. Limiting scope to AI is shortsighted and doesn't speak to the concerns people have beyond an Ai Race

> nobody ever brags about how lack of “tracking” has positively impacted their lives

This reminds me of the anti-vax logic a tad in that they lack the imagination on the seemingly obvious effects of their ideal world.

Being indifferent to companies and political parties (which becomes your Gov't when voted into power) indirectly states that you are indifferent to others attempts to influence you and/or foolhardy enough to believe that all of your beliefs consistently originates from objective personal experience.

> re Google knowing say I use mac and advertising some Apple stuff to me - what's the problem?

The issue is that the data isn't limited to device type and Google uses this data to sell to marketers. The more data they have on you, the more money they make which is why they're incentivized to break the rules and vacuum up as much data as possible even if it breaks the law. Hence, less than 6 months ago they paid over a billion dollars for "unlawfully tracking users’ geolocation, incognito searches, and collecting biometric data without proper consent"[1]

They're incentivized to abuse your data and owning the browser allows them for unchecked access to your internet browsing and information about you.

There's a catch-22 in that the average Linux user is pretty loudly opposed to AI and so it appears hard for pro-AI software to gain footing in the space. Granted, most AI tools are Linux-friendly ATM, but my uneducated guess is that a larger % of Apple/Windows users use AI daily than Linux users
mac-attack··on Apple takes down ICE tracking apps after pressure from DOJ
For-Profit companies have an outsized impact on our day-to-day and have the ear of the current administration. Citizens United allows their voice to be heard politically (where they again have an outsized impact). I'm curious why they can lobby to impact the lives we live and our access to information, and their CEO can donate a million to the inauguration but suddenly they deserve the right to fade into the background and stay out of it all?
