math-dev··on I got 22k app downloads in one weekend with a $0 budget
Welcome to the real world - being good at something or making something good is only half the battle. Marketing is the other half.

But note thats yours is not the only high quality free calculator out there, it may come across as harsh but I think you need to reevaluate the value / importance of your calculator and also keep this in mind for future projects.

I write this as somebody who has also written a completely free (with source code on GitHub) IOS calculator, currently with 10,000+ active users. It took some time to get the users, but it was a great learning experience regardless.

These days I write articles and do not get as much exposure as I would like, marketing is an issue in every aspect of life ;)

math-dev··on Solving the regex of madness, and snarky answers on StackOverflow (2019)
Great article (assuming the solution provided works).

I do a lot of parsing in my projects, I find natural text based input vital for power users who don’t to point and click always.

What are some good parsing algorithms, theoretical articles etc to help me become more professional in the parsing tools I write?

math-dev··on I forgot about print style sheets (2016)
Check this out ;)

math-dev··on How often do people copy and paste from Stack Overflow?
All Day, Everyday.

(p.s. SO Blog is really cool - they always post many good and informative articles there).

math-dev··on Big SPAC deals don’t need big SPACs
What are PIPE investors? Do they get favourable terms?
math-dev··on Deep dive in CORS: History, how it works, and best practices
This topic always trips me up, thanks for the guide
math-dev··on Ahoyo – Build a single-page online presence
Wow! So much negativity about this website - I don’t think its deserved. They are trying to build a business, and are not doing anything nefarious, so no need to hate.

Maybe they fail, maybe they succeed.

I personally build my website on html / css / github pages, but there are many others who want a different solution, whether it be wordpress or ahoyo.

math-dev··on Ask HN: How do you solicit user feedback for your mobile app?
My 2c (10,000 users app):

- Respect the user and not send any annoying requests for suggestions -> Getting feedback should be a very minor point of your app, assume the user does NOT want to see any requests for information

-Think like the user, use the app extensively and try and make it as perfect without their feedback

- Offer a discrete email for them to contact you (usually within the help page)

- Add the option for reviews & feedback (via the Apple API)

I get quite a bit of comments via reviews and also the occasional email

Because users have to actively reach out to you, usually the quality of the feedback is very high

Currently rated 4.8/5 on the App Store, so it’s working for me. That said its not a complex app, so I haven’t had as much need for user feedback

math-dev··on Git as a NoSql Database (2016)
Thank you, was a nice read (particularly the conclusion, which was insightful and made sense)
