In Spain too
mcdevilkiller··on Ask HN: What startup/technology is on your 'to watch' list?
Not maybe, that's exactly what they do.
mcdevilkiller··on “Amazon is holding over 4.2M dollars, suffocating our business”
First poster implied Amazon does this to retain more cash. Second implied they do it to prevent fraud instead.
mcdevilkiller··on We’re working on 1M Covid-19 testing capacity per day
The thing is, your country reacted, decisions were made and things changed a lot, thus you at least can maintain some volume of classes. Imagine just thinking about something like this here in Spain. Our politicians are a joke, and society lazy and selfish.
mcdevilkiller··on Ask HN: How can I pick a side project and stick with it?
I feel so related to the third point.
mcdevilkiller··on Ask HN: How can I pick a side project and stick with it?
exactly what I feel
mcdevilkiller··on How to trim video clips instantly without reencoding
if you want scriptability, go for Avisynth. It's complicated, but very powerful.
mcdevilkiller··on WireGuard 1.0 for Linux 5.6
I id have some problems with algo behind a NAT. Though my usecase is a bit different, more of a road warrior, as I wanted to be able to access a server in one property (behind NAT) from my home PC (also NAT). I suppose I just need port forwarding.
mcdevilkiller··on Microsoft Defender for Linux is coming. This is what you need to know
Is it, too, going to use 15% of CPU when doing intensive tasks?
mcdevilkiller··on Chrome phasing out support for User-Agent
One of the best solutions out there.
mcdevilkiller··on DuckDuckGo is good enough for regular use
Exactly the same experience here! It's incredible how Google looks like a storefront rather than a search engine now, if you have off of it for a while.
mcdevilkiller··on Cloud Storage for $2 per TB per month
No, they are mostly made of air, which floats (Partial sarcasm, as that is what makes them float)
mcdevilkiller··on Windows93
Yes, this is it. He ported (and created) Qemu to JS using Emscriptem and we can run differen OSes inside the browser. So cool!
mcdevilkiller··on uBlock Origin: Address first-party tracker blocking
I use Developer Edition on an 8 y/o PC and it doesn't lag. Even with 500 tabs open (using a tab suspender.
mcdevilkiller··on How to recognize AI snake oil [pdf]
Whit uMatrix, you could have created a rule to block that script.
mcdevilkiller··on Intel publishes misleading benchmarks against AMD
Wait, in the US you use 15A at 120v? Here in Europe (Spain at least) the typical is 16A at 240v. 1500W isn't that much of a problem. Oven breakers are even 20 or 32A.
mcdevilkiller··on Intel publishes misleading benchmarks against AMD
Yes, please! And if possible, a lower frequency, higher thread count processor version plus a low core count, high frequency processor one.
mcdevilkiller··on Intel publishes misleading benchmarks against AMD
Nah, they prefer having all the reviewers and online press in the pocket, you just need money for that, and if there is one thing Intel has, is money.
mcdevilkiller··on Journal will publish heavily criticized paper on gender differences in physics
She was asking if it was true, discrediting it.
mcdevilkiller··on NSO hacked WhatsApp to spy on top government officials at U.S. allies
It doesn't. At first, it used an SMS IIRC that charged you a dollar every month or year, not sure. Then they scrapped that and they are now basing the income on WhatsApp for Business, although I don't know if they are charging yet. But as operating costs were actually low, they mostly ran off of papa Facebook's dollars.
mcdevilkiller··on Ask HN: How was life for a regular dev during the dot com burst?
Ouch! I hope your fresh start paid off, though.
mcdevilkiller··on Four kinds of documentation
Node.js web server that bundles and configures a lot of middleware so you don't have to. Or something along the lines. Instead of hinting what is the gist of how it works, say it straight away.
mcdevilkiller··on Why I Write Games in C (yes, C)
And a very important one, Minecraft, atleast the Java version. It doesn't matter until you are running a couple hundred mods with lots of blocks and textures, when the max memory allocated gets saturated and it stutters like hell.
mcdevilkiller··on Milky Way’s Black Hole Just Flared, Growing 75 Times as Bright for a Few Hours
Are you sure it's km/s? :D
mcdevilkiller··on AV1 codec ecosystem update
All are VP9 now.
mcdevilkiller··on Blender Is Free Software
At least, your competitors will pay too. If it was open source, they could use it without contributing back.
mcdevilkiller··on Blender Is Free Software
Then AutoDesk would drop the money on the table, fork your code and develop new features in the same time, then bundle free Arnold, and every AutoDesk format. And then youare ruled out. This is the same as it's happening with AWS. They may not be able to compete on prize, but as they got a much bigger budget, you are already out, unless they are very incompetent and you are not.

Also, this is assuming your initial software is worth "stealing", it has to be good enough first, which Blender is nowadays.

mcdevilkiller··on Sony built an IoT chip with a 60 mile range
We should kill FM Radio stations already and use the frequency for these kind of things. The range and data-rates are excellent and the power consumption is low. If you want to listen to music or the news while in your car, LTE is cheaper than ever.
mcdevilkiller··on Google has added DuckDuckGo as a search engine option for Chrome users
Shebanged or banged?
mcdevilkiller··on Firefox Send: Free encrypted file transfer service
It's supposedly UI agnostic and just requires QT5. Probably you can build it from source, and it will open as a normal app, in its own tile.
