methoddk··on Time to ditch the arrogant tech blogs
Useful for one thing but pollution for another.
methoddk··on Time to ditch the arrogant tech blogs
Then there needs to be an alternative. Anything Arrington, Lacy, etc. are affiliated with will be plagued with corruption, terrible writers, and self-important nonsense.
methoddk··on Time to ditch the arrogant tech blogs
Posts from TC/Pando/Anyone affiliated with either shouldn't be allowed on Hacker News. There has not been a single post from either site that is of any use to us here.

They are biased. They are cry babies. They want attention. Stop giving it to them. TC & Pando stories should be banned from HN.

Add.: Maybe it's my introverted nature, but it really seems that this industry is heading to a place where if you aren't a complete arrogant ass without shame who can strut around going "Look at me I'm so cool! Look what I do!", your project won't get any mainstream attention. It makes me sad.

methoddk··on Are People Finally Getting Bored with the Tech-Blog Circle Jerk?
The fact that the tech industry has given them the power to "make or break" startups is insane. These people are horrible writers, and the fact that anyone gives them the time of day is insane. Posts from TC, Pando, and the like, AND posts about them, shouldn't be allowed on HN.
methoddk··on Are People Finally Getting Bored with the Tech-Blog Circle Jerk?
This is an article that needed to be written. Tech shouldn't be a popularity contest like the attention-deprived "journalists" that were called out in the article. The whole lot of them have a psychological disorder that needs treatment, probably stemming from lack of attention from their peers in high school.

It's fairly clear that the information in TC and/or Pando is biased. Neither should be supported, ever. Stop the popularity contest that these people are turning our passion into!

methoddk··on Facebook acquires Instagram
As long as they keep instagram intact as the service it is now, then awesome.

If Facebook kills my favorite platform, that would make for a really sad day.

methoddk··on Throw Out Everything You Know About Ads
The EA logo is why they weren't clicking the first ad. I don't know about other people, but I avoid EA at all costs.
methoddk··on Poll: What are your prime hacking hours?
I feel like closing my eyes when I need to do some intense mental math helps tremendously. Really neat.
methoddk··on Kickstarter: rails.app
Installing Rails on OSX is trivial. If one really needs this process streamlined, maybe you shouldn't be coding? Or maybe you should just stop using a computer?

Similar to the Svbtle drama, this is yet another post lingering on the front page that has no business here.

I thought this was hacker news. Seems more like "check out my super cool project that you can't use unless you're awesome or you pay me" news. :(

methoddk··on Forget Today’s Drama, Dustin Curtis’ Svbtle Is About Pushing Blogging Forward
If quality control is the reason, then say so politely. Making the people reading about your product feel inadequate is not a good look.

It's obvious the author of this article is friends with the self-proclaimed superhero-dick-villain, as an article about a closed blogging platform is in no way, shape, or form applicable news for a website of TC's magnitude.

methoddk··on Forget Today’s Drama, Dustin Curtis’ Svbtle Is About Pushing Blogging Forward
It may be, but I really don't take lightly to snobby people acting like the crap they make is better than anything anyone has ever seen.

I have a markdown editor, too. It's called VIM.

methoddk··on Forget Today’s Drama, Dustin Curtis’ Svbtle Is About Pushing Blogging Forward
It now says villain because he is an ass. His snobby attitude got him hated on his HN post of Svbtle and he threw a hissy fit[1].

It should read, "Dustin Curtis is a crybaby."

methoddk··on Forget Today’s Drama, Dustin Curtis’ Svbtle Is About Pushing Blogging Forward
TechCrunch never ceases to amaze me. Pushing blogging forward? With a simple markdown to post converter with a crappy editor with an "idea" button?! Give me a break, man. Its too early for this.

An entire article about some designer elitist's super-cool-too-cool-for-you-bro-because-I'm-a-superhero closed blogging "network"?

Svbtle (dumb name.), is garbage. It looks like something I designed in 7th grade, yet it's getting so much attention that arguably the worst tech blog on the Internet did a write-up on it?

It was copied in 12 hours for a reason, it sucks.

Hacking is about openness, not snobs rubbing their clout in everyone's faces.

methoddk··on 'A Test You Need to Fail': A Teacher's Open Letter to Her 8th Grade Students
She's 100% right. Standardized testing is a disease to the education in this country.

The grade school system in this country is nothing but a babysitting program for people who aren't old enough to vote.

methoddk··on Codename: Svbtle by Dustin Curtis
It all seems really snooty and lame. Not digging the attitude, dcurtis.

Sidenote: The judos thing is annoying and the design is mad plain.

methoddk··on Looks Like Zynga Just Bought OMGPOP For $200 Million
OMGPOP are sellouts. Buyouts like this kill me. I hate seeing good companies get gobbled up by others...
methoddk··on Poll: Which text editor do you use daily?
At the moment, vim is a runaway victor as far as popularity. As I expected it to be. Insanely simple and so many great plugins.
methoddk··on Poll: Which text editor do you use daily?
Check out TextWrangler. Pretty similar
methoddk··on Poll: Which text editor do you use daily?
added, thanks.
methoddk··on Poll: Which text editor do you use daily?

methoddk··on Poll: Which text editor do you use daily?
I'm the same way, I really love vim for python, ruby, html.

But I've been eyeing up Sublime Text 2... It looks nice

methoddk··on Poll: Which text editor do you use daily?
Seems like a few people like Sublime Text 2

Any particular reasons why? I currently use MacVim with solarize dark color palette.

methoddk··on Poll: Which text editor do you use daily?
I've added those now, thanks for the tip.
methoddk··on A case against syntax highlighting
If I had to read code in all one color text I would go absolutely insane. Syntax highlighting has saved me from so many silly keyboard mistakes.
methoddk··on Sad but true: Napster '99 still smokes Spotify 2012
I agree with this 100%. A lot of the music I still listen to today was discovered because of those chat rooms on Napster.

I miss it.

methoddk··on The Ruby Refresher
Awesome! This will help in my learning ruby from Python, thanks!
methoddk··on Copyright wars heat up: US wins extradition of college kid from England
A "one-sided" hearing where the offending party has zero chance of defending themselves.

Totally legit.

methoddk··on Copyright wars heat up: US wins extradition of college kid from England
>Back in June 2010, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) seized O'Dwyer's tvshack.net domain name after a closed, one-sided hearing before a judge.

That shows they believed he is guilty before a trial. It was a linking site, he wasn't hosting anything. Google aids in copyright infringement as people use their service every day to find download links to things. But they are fine? The legislation in place across the globe is not equipped to handle these types of cases. Combine that with ignorant octogenarian judges, equals one messed up "justice" system.

methoddk··on Copyright wars heat up: US wins extradition of college kid from England
So his domains and servers are seized while the "investigation" is pending?

The UK could've done their part and stopped this from happening in the first place. They are way out of bounds stepping over into other countries to pursue legal action for this. The site wasn't operated in the US. Who was threatened by a link site? There's much bigger fish in the sea of copyright infringement.

SOPA and PIPA may have gotten shelved, but this just proves US will do what it wants anyway.

methoddk··on Copyright wars heat up: US wins extradition of college kid from England
This is completely out of hand now. The US is now a country where you are guilty until proven innocent.

It is disgusting to see domain seizures with no concrete basis of doing so. This kid is being extradited to the US because his website provided links to TV shows?

"Copyright infringers" are treated with less dignity and respect than mass murderers and rapists.
