methoddk··on DomainPolish: From MVP To Exit In 6 Months
Sweet negativity, bro.

An exit is an exit. He made something, and sold it FOR PROFIT in 6 months, while being in college. Pretty impressive.

methoddk··on What the Sabu revelation means for hackers
It fit the bill but at what cost? This fool still walks free for cooperating and selling out his peers? I can't believe this guy actually has a twitter account with 30k followers. Since when has hacking become about being in the public eye? I get the activism of it all, but they went about it horribly from the beginning.
methoddk··on Raspberry Pi: Manufacturing Hiccup
The fact that they are so open with the process is what (for me, at least) keeps me happy with it and I'm fine with waiting.

Can't wait to do cool things with mine!

methoddk··on AtomizeJS: A library for writing distributed programs in the browser
Same here, I'll have to put something together with this later.
methoddk··on Viral Video About Body Scanners
What an ignorantly worded blog post. By the TSA?! Come on.

If anything, this post does nothing but give the impression that the flaw in the scanners IS true.

methoddk··on Angelina is a computer AI that builds games all by itself
Woah, that's amazing.

I want to play with this now.

methoddk··on How I built my blog in one day
Wordpress requires a database, Jekyll does not.

Jekyll is also much easier to maintain, with it's built in web server for testing, and static page generation, using a github repo is so simple it's stupid.

Jekyll is the way to go.

methoddk··on How I helped destroy Star Wars Galaxies
I've only ever played WoW, but jacked up economy on servers wasn't fun. And I mean JACKED up. It does add an element of realism though, nothing comes for free in this world.
methoddk··on LulzSec brought down by own leader
Thanks for the down vote because you don't agree?

He broke a trust barrier. He is just as guilty as the peers he just sold out.

Now what? He just sits back and kicks it good while his friends get canned?

Clearly, you would let your friends take a fall for you when you're just as guilty.

methoddk··on Annotated slides on d3.js from its creator Mike Bostock
Love this. This is the way slide should be displayed. Thanks for making it easy to learn something new.
methoddk··on LulzSec brought down by own leader
for the lulz indeed.

What a dick, though..

methoddk··on Induction: A Polyglot Database Client For Mac OS X
Theres a binary hosted on the github page somewhere.
methoddk··on Confnow - Painless 24/7 Free Conference Calls
Just tested this out with a friend. Mad simple. Great service.

Are there plans for more numbers to call?

Also I'm a little confused, when I "Secure" a custom pin, I just enter that in at the prompt on the phone? Instead of the one it shows on the steps list?

methoddk··on Sometimes the bug isn't in your code, it's in the CPU
+100 nerd cred indeed. That's something that trumps any normal bug.
methoddk··on Induction: A Polyglot Database Client For Mac OS X
This is freaking awesome and I can't wait to build it.
methoddk··on GTA clone in HTML5
Awesome! Works phenomenally in Chrome. The crosshair mechanism is difficult to control, though,
methoddk··on BankersBox - a Redis-like API for localStorage
I had been thinking about something like this for an app I'm working on, this looks great! Thanks for the awesomesauce.
methoddk··on Write Unix manpages in Markdown with md2man
Addendum: your app is pretty cool and I like it. Keep making cool stuff.
methoddk··on Write Unix manpages in Markdown with md2man
Post something cool you've been working on to HN:

Have everyone shit on it because something similar exists.

Down with competition! Down with creating!

methoddk··on ESPN Starts Opening the Doors to Its Data
I was going to read this until I saw (techcrunch.com) :(
methoddk··on ESPN Developer Center
Good job ESPN. I was excited about this until I registered and realized I could only use headline data. This thing is completely useless without giving everyone access to at least two more data streams. (No scores?!) FAIL.

Nice try though.

methoddk··on TV piracy groups formally adopt h264
What gradstudent said. For the prestige and respect. It's a rush, addicting and exhilarating.
methoddk··on TV piracy groups formally adopt h264
This has nothing to do with NNTP, BT, P2P. All FXP to distributed FTP servers. The RARs are split so that if one server in the farm goes down, the whole release isn't corrupted. Same for transferring the data.

"Racers" move the els to multiple servers. Split RARs allow for multiple people to be moving parts of the same els at the same time.

methoddk··on TV piracy groups formally adopt h264
It's still true to this day. Real scene is still done with FXP and then leeched down the food chain to BT/NGz/p2p/etc...

Releases are out for hours before they even make it to open user levels.

Get it where it's hot, yo.

methoddk··on How I built a Hacker News mobile web app
I learned some new stuff about CSS! Motivated to create my own mobile web app now. Thanks for the in-depth explanations.
methoddk··on Why you’ll always think your product is shit
Awesome read. Makes me want to go see Pixar! Thanks for the eye-opener.
methoddk··on Visualised: 24 hours of SSH attacks against a single server
Then don't waste your time commenting on it?
methoddk··on An open challenge to PandoDaily
So it's okay that Twitter, Facebook, Path, etc, all have my contact list and possibly more? The point isn't that users trust they are keeping the data safe, its that they took it without asking up front. Those apps may be out to make its users lives easier, but I would like to know when they are taking my personal data and keeping it for 18 months in an archive

Either way, TC was/is lame. PandoDaily is too.

methoddk··on How undersea fiber gets laid in the ocean
Very interesting. Hats off to the men and women who put the work in to make all of that possible.
methoddk··on Show HN: Subway, a persistent web client for IRC
As soon as I fix the issues plaguing me from installing the dependencies for this, it's replacing Colloquy. Thanks!
