nullbyte··on Britain to introduce compulsory digital ID for workers
This is my thought exactly. Don't they already have something like SSN to identify people in Britain? I don't see how a digital ID would be any better.

nullbyte··on Hulk Hogan Has Died
I’m glad he can rest now, he must have been in a lot of pain. Literally his entire spine is fused, every single vertebrae. It must have been really painful to live like that. Im glad he can have some rest now.

“Are you bringing with you: plants, food, animals, soil, disease agents, cell cultures or snails? Declare all articles that you have acquired and are bringing into the United States.”

It's interesting that they specifically mention snails

nullbyte··on Bypassing Watermark Implementations
It's a good article, but I was a little disappointed that he only went over crude watermarking technologies. The more advanced systems implant an invisible watermark in the image or video itself by using neural networks. Those are a lot more tricky to bypass than simply removing a floating div.

Counting vowels and naming all 50 states on the first try is only reliable with reasoning models. The standard LLMs like 4o struggle a lot with these types of tasks.

nullbyte··on DeepSeek-R1
"We demonstrate that the reasoning patterns of larger models can be distilled into smaller models, resulting in better performance compared to the reasoning patterns discovered through RL on small models. The open source DeepSeek-R1, as well as its API, will benefit the research community to distill better smaller models in the future."

From the research paper. Pretty interesting, and it's good news for people with consumer hardware.

nullbyte··on I've Acquired a New Superpower
My Piano teacher used to have this book on her coffee table with images like this. You could blur and cross your eyes, and the image would combine to become 3D.

But I never knew this technique could be used to spot the difference between images. Very cool discovery!
