nullcipher··on Netflix’s bad habits have caught up with it
Isn't the whole point of stock investments for consumers is to grow their money. All this ethics/morals is all passe . What they want is to invest in oil, defense companies and then talk to real people about global warming and peace on earth.
nullcipher··on Netflix’s bad habits have caught up with it
Netflix's content is truly shocking. They were so enjoyable back when they were not creating their own content. Cancelled a long time ago.

Slint is coming along nicely - https://github.com/slint-ui/slint
nullcipher··on Oauth2 support for GMail
Wow, is this the software that ran on Novell Netware? I had no idea this was still around.
nullcipher··on Ask HN: What VPN service are you currently using?
I selfhost VPN server using cloudron on digital ocean
nullcipher··on Startups Rejecting Venture Capital
Can you elaborate?

OP just told you the problem

nullcipher··on Movim – Federated, open-source alternative to Tumblr
There is also cloudron similar to sandstorm
nullcipher··on Deploying Mastodon on Digital Ocean
I think cloudron provides exactly this. Have you tried it? Mastadon package is also under way.
nullcipher··on Mark Shuttleworth is not selling Canonical or Ubuntu – yet
What is unstable about it? I have used it in 3 fortune 500 companies in production and it was great.
nullcipher··on Bring Your Custom Image to DigitalOcean
Can we share custom images with others?
nullcipher··on Ask HN: Whats the best alternative to Inbox?
What support have you required? Will they tell me why an email for marked as spam? Because it marks my domain which clears all ham tests as spam...
nullcipher··on Docker Swarm Visualizer
Very nice idea! Would be great to have this (idea) built-in as part of swarm.
nullcipher··on Legislation would restrict H-1B visas
The H1B workers are still less shackled than those L1s. If that makes any H1Bs feel better.
nullcipher··on Apollo Global is buying Rackspace for $4.3B
2011-2013 surely :-)
nullcipher··on Mailbox.org – Privacy made in Germany
I am not sure if having my data in mailbox.org is any more private that Microsoft or Google. My gmail doesn't even show any ads.
nullcipher··on Apollo Global is buying Rackspace for $4.3B
Let me guess.. media.net?
nullcipher··on What I found wrong in Docker 1.12
OK downvoters, I get it. Everyone hates docker but uses it anyway :-)
nullcipher··on USCIS Proposes Rule to Welcome International Entrepreneurs
This is a great step forward. I actually like the idea of parole rather than a proper visa upfront. First, get entrepreneurs to US and let them show their skills. If they succeed, they can always apply for GC directly through the existing outstanding skills category or take an investor visa.
nullcipher··on What I found wrong in Docker 1.12
There is no proper ecosystem for rkt. All I have seen is marketing hype and I don't know anyone who uses it. Just go to any meetup.
nullcipher··on What I found wrong in Docker 1.12
Negative comments here seem to be a gross overreaction. This is primarily a code release. Code is always going to keep moving. I have used swarm and it's nowhere close to unstable as people say it is. Is it production ready? Probably not. But which software is production ready in every big release?

Unnecessary fear mongering by people who have an outside agenda.

nullcipher··on Cloudron: A platform for self-hosting web apps
You should give Cloudron a try. It is an absolutely independent cloud server (including sending email).
nullcipher··on Decommissioning Otto
We tried terraform and gave up. We do use vagrant a lot though. How does HashiCorp make money?
nullcipher··on Page Dewarping
Wrap this in a service and you have a startup!
nullcipher··on Decentralization is about diversity
No offense to sandstorm but most of the apps indeed look like they were done in weekend. The blog author grossly underestimates what is required to make a great functional app (even those mobile apps that were done on a weekend aren't popular by any means). If this is the goal, then they should reposition themselves as "OS for distributing your weekend project" (no snark, am serious about this). It's a great niche if that is their initial target.

> and I understand they're making this argument because what they do isn't a service

They do provide a service.

nullcipher··on Decentralization is about diversity
You have a valid point so I upvoted you. But I think you are getting downvoted for your tone (this is HN). Try to be more positive and give concrete actionable feedback (if you have any).
nullcipher··on Otto joins Uber
It's a great Acquihire. Uber immediately gets all this self-driving expertise.
nullcipher··on Introducing the Qt Lite project – Qt for any platform, any thing, any size
Same here. It would be very poor long term investment to put a chip into a car without a GPU.

But, I think the Qt changes are for IoT and not for cars.

nullcipher··on Debian turns 23
Does anyone know what happened to the case of the debian founder?
