Hello I'm Tad Chef, online publisher since 1997, Web 2.0 enthusiast and social media power user. I blog for several years, contributing among others to Google Blogoscoped or CSS Globe. My new blog redefines what many misunderstand, SEO. It's called SEO 2.0 - http://seo2.0.onreact.com

onreact-com··on How to Keep WordPress Secure
No, either you don't get it or you refuse to.

WP 2.8, WP 2.7, WP 2.5 etc. each were compromised almost immediately and each time several security updates have been issued in the matter of days and weeks.

Nobody can keep up with it so no wonder WordPress blogs get hacked.

Why don't they just release stable and secure versions?

onreact-com··on RepRap, a (potentially) self-replicating 3D printer
This is only pointing to another post:

http://jonathanstray.com/self-replicating-desktop-manufactur...

Also it does not even link the RepRap homepage:

http://reprap.org

Thus I submitted the original source it refers to:

onreact-com··on How to Keep WordPress Secure
This post just shows how desperate these guys are. They don't even address their own responsibility. They assume that having worms is perfectly natural.

They rather blame other people for suggesting the wrong solutions.

There is no other software out there that demands upgrades so often to no avail getting infected again and again nonetheless.

Oh, sorry, there is one: Internet Explorer!

onreact-com··on How to Keep WordPress Secure
wordpress.com blogs get hacked as well, just check:

http://www.google.com/search?q=wordpres.com+hcked&pws=0&...

You'll find threads like these:

http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/my-site-got-hacked

http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/my-friends-site-was-hac...

http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/i-got-hacked-1

where wordpress.com users seek help after they got hacked.

onreact-com··on How to Keep WordPress Secure
This is the way they advertise for their wordpress.com version obviously. Stick with us or you get compromised. Bad style. They rather should fix their buggy software.

They prefer new features over security. Have you noticed how with each major upgrade there are new holes in it?

WordPress is like Swiss cheese, full of holes. I'd prefer Swiss banks or watches instead.

onreact-com··on Minor Tweaks to the Blog – ReTweeting & Twitter
There is a better solution then Tweetmeme already. It's the TwetCount plugin by BackType

http://www.backtype.com/plugins/tweetcount

I use it on my bog successfully. You can customize colors, retweet text, even choose between several URL shorteners.

onreact-com··on Tracking one author across multiple publications. Possible?
Create a FriendFeed account dedicated to him and add his RSS feeds :-)

Or try Yahoo Pipes.

onreact-com··on Keeping Pirates at Bay
The music industry as we know it must die. It's a dinosaur. It had at least a decade to adapt but it failed miserably and its still ignoring the reality.

Musicians like Trent Reznor or Radiohead have shown a new way of earning money for musicians: Cutting out the middleman. The music industry is not needed anymore. It's only hampering progress.

onreact-com··on Security Threat: WordPress Under Attack
Yeah. That's pathetic. You should erase any signs of the WP version you actually use as this is an open invitation for hackers.

onreact-com··on Security Threat: WordPress Under Attack
This is just business as usual. Wordpress is under attack constantly. One of my blogs has been hacked 5 times this year already.

Of course updating is not enough.

That's why the Obama campaign used Movable Type instead of WP.

The actual link to Yoono is http://yoono.com/

Or did you really mean the the Yoono Twitter tool?

onreact-com··on Charge your iPod with your bike
Good idea but it was executed a few times already prior to this.

onreact-com··on Court Allows Woman to Sue Bank for Lax Security After $26,000 Stolen by Hackers
I'd rather sue the banks for the lack of security when it comes to losing billions by a so called "financial crunch".

26k is peanuts.

That's always the case though, shoplifters get prison sentences or they get downright killed like at Walmart but the big fish are untouchable.

onreact-com··on YikeBike: Segway Alternative
Good point but this YikiBike is at least less scary than the Segway where you fall flat on your face.

onreact-com··on PageRanking species for predicting extinctions
I'd propose some SEO for endangered species then.
onreact-com··on Get Less Done: Stop Being Productive and Enjoy Yourself
I'd argue that enjoying life is also doing something and sometimes it's hard work to do so.
onreact-com··on Tool of the Day: Pixlr-Online Drawing and Photo Editing (useful tools review)
While Pixlr is awesome already, Sumo Paint is even more advanced:

onreact-com··on What is Open Source Bicycle Design?
I don't understand your question. Can you reword it?
onreact-com··on [dead]
Walmart is infamous for all kinds of human rights abuses.

They even kill people for shoplifting:

onreact-com··on Seth's Blog: The problem with positive thinking
Positive thinking is a good start but positive acting is even better. For instance it works perfect in raising children. See Triple P http://www.gov.mb.ca/triplep/
onreact-com··on What is Open Source Bicycle Design?
There is a broken image on this page. To see actual images look elsewhere on the site, e.g. here:

onreact-com··on 200 Lousy Bicycles For UN Climate Conference:
How hypocritical! I guess they use their hybrid Hummers instead.
onreact-com··on How Many Solar Panels To Power The World?
This has been on HN already yesterday and it's logic is flawed as I explained last time. You don't need to cover extra space with solar panels as they are situated on roofs etc.

See: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=800264

onreact-com··on Reinvention Of The Wheel?
I think the folding is only a side effect with this bike. More importantly it's completely modular and you can assemble it IKEA or LEGO-like.
onreact-com··on I bought a CD, not a licensing agreement
Don't buy the CD, steal it. It's more affordable than stealing music online: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=802145

;-)

onreact-com··on [dead]
Abducting a child is waaay cheaper than the hideous crime of stealing music from hard working music industry execs.
onreact-com··on Swine Flu latest statistics: Visualized
Sadly these stats don't show that the swine flu scare is mostly hype and that it's far less deadly than seasonal flu.

For instance in Germany there are 15k swine flu cases after roughly 4 months and not a single death while overall there are 20k seasonal flu and similar disases related deaths in Germany per year.

So basically swine flu is a joke.

People die in South America, Asia and the US because they have no health insurance there and poverty is endemic. Thus they don't get real treatment.

In Germany still everybody eats well and get decent treatment. Btw. you don't need Tamiflu which has severe side effects (teenagers get suicidal after taking it). Simple home made remedies are enough to treat this very harmless kind of flu.

onreact-com··on Ask HN: Am I crazy?
You're the right kind of crazy if you ask me. People travel on a much lower budget and I don't mean hobos. Setting up a blog and earning money with it is not a problem. with an original idea like this you get lots of exposure.

Focus on travel products and advertise with affiliate ads. Get publicity by interviewing people the world is or might be interested in.
