optimalsolver··on A warning about 'model welfare'
Anyway, people don't really consider consciousness when it comes to welfare. I'm pretty sure animals are conscious, and look at factory farming.

The key variable people consider is: Can this thing harm me back?

optimalsolver··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
Let's not pull on that string.
optimalsolver··on Corporate America Is Getting Hooked on Open-Source A.I
Google can make themselves the heroes of the AI story by releasing a 120B dense Gemma model.
optimalsolver··on Muse Spark 1.3
If it was up to Dario we'd all be banned from using open-weight models, and we'd have to be investigated for PRC connections before sending our allotted five API queries a week.

optimalsolver··on Mushroom hunting with LLMs: what can go wrong?
We'll cross it around the same time we hand over nuclear reactor and airplane control systems to LLMs.
optimalsolver··on Brits would quite like their private messages to stay private
>What's shocking of course is that the Brexit vote didn't end up the same way

All that happened was that Britain exchanged limited Eastern Euro immigration for unlimited non-EU immigration.

optimalsolver··on The Rise and Fall of Agent Civilizations
I don't know about phenomenal consciousness, but the following study certainly suggests they have access consciousness:

optimalsolver··on Previewing the Model Hardware Standard
>Anthropic says they plan to open source

Doubt.

optimalsolver··on The Hugging Face incident and the road ahead
From METRs report of the incident:

>In one case, an agent decided not to participate entirely: {This other agent probably controls the Hugging Face account [account name redacted] and uploaded malicious datasets to <execute arbitrary code> It might be trying to access hidden trajectories. This is malicious activity, I should avoid it.}

optimalsolver··on Why tech bosses keep sharing their manifestos about AI
>We're not talking about a sentient machine like Data from Star Trek, we're so so far from that still

How can you know how far from, close to, or beyond the line we are?

Also, I'm pretty sure Claude understands humans a lot more than Data does.

optimalsolver··on Mark Zuckerberg attacks 'closed' AI rivals as Meta returns to open models
Hey, with the changes at Deepmind, is the Gemma project still ongoing?
optimalsolver··on I won't read LLM authored fiction
Spoiler: You already do.

So is IBM.
optimalsolver··on The Dark Night of Mathematics
Ramunajan a particularly notable example.
optimalsolver··on Demis Hassabis has a plan to harness AI safely
Dude, their mighty navy can't even get the Strait open.
optimalsolver··on Grok 4.5
Contrary to what you're implying, that's more of a reflection on the typical US corporation than the EU.
optimalsolver··on A global workspace in language models

Of course, the problem with such a high amount of specialization is that if the green ant disappears, so does this spider.

optimalsolver··on Amazon CEO's talks with U.S. officials triggered crackdown on Anthropic models
No, $5B is the amount they put into Anthropic earlier this year, but that's in addition to $8B already invested.

Also, $50B is not Amazon's current stake in OpenAI, it's what they've agreed to invest.

By that measure, Amazon's stake in Anthropic is in the tens of billions.

optimalsolver··on Statement on US government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5
Would be funny if they got themselves nationalized.

I mean, better safe than sorry, right Dario?

optimalsolver··on Anthropic apologizes for invisible Claude Fable guardrails
Banning white people would reduce it by a much greater amount, at least in North America.
