phpnode··on JavaScript and Node performance coding tips to make applications faster
for of has got a lot faster recently but it's still never going to beat the performance of a normal for loop due to the semantics - each turn of the for of loop requires a new iterator object to be allocated.
phpnode··on SpaceX's Falcon Heavy center booster lacked ignition fluid to re-light engines
In addition to the several million dollar cost of the fairings they represent a production bottleneck - they're carbon composites which take a long time to make and require very expensive tooling. No matter how many reflyable first (and maybe in future, second) stages spacex has in stock, if they can't produce fairings fast enough they cannot go to space.
phpnode··on E-Stop and Fuel, software that keeps you awake at night
Which law covers that?
phpnode··on In web design, everything easy is hard again
Presumably by calling parseInt('010') which used to detect zero leading strings as octal.
phpnode··on SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy successfully launches
The centre core is significantly strengthened to cope with the additional load from the side boosters. It also has slightly different aerodynamic properties because of the fixed struts that hold the boosters in place. Either of these could have affected the landing. They'll collect data and fix it.
phpnode··on ECMAScript 2018: final feature set
Majority of top 1000 websites perhaps, most websites aren't compiled at all, they just link to jQuery on a CDN somewhere.
phpnode··on ECMAScript 2018: final feature set
Those are additive, they don't affect the semantics of code that was written before they were added. That is what is meant by backwards compatibility here - you never need to change existing code because of new features.
phpnode··on Worries Grow That the Price of Bitcoin Is Being Propped Up
> Does Ethereum has any immunity from pump-and-dump and other market manipulation schemes compared to Bitcoin

No.

phpnode··on Worries Grow That the Price of Bitcoin Is Being Propped Up
When BTC crashes, so will ETH. Get out entirely.
phpnode··on Google winning 98% ad spots it auctions off, after order to treat others equally
> This website is so clearly a scam created for this antitrust case.

I can't speak for the quality of their product but this is absolutely not true, Kelkoo has been around since 1999[0], almost as long as Google itself.

phpnode··on Optimizing hash tables: hiding the hash code
No, for reasons others have said, but they can use the pointer to deal with collisions
phpnode··on Optimizing hash tables: hiding the hash code
Also means they can't move the object without more bookkeeping
phpnode··on Optimizing hash tables: hiding the hash code
They only need a unique id for the object, they can't hash based on the object contents because those can change and because two objects with exactly the same properties are not equal in JS:

    assert({} === {}); // throws
phpnode··on Fears grow over Tether ‘printing press’ as auditors part ways
If counterfeit Tether has been used to prop up the market the losses of the comparatively few people who actually hold Tether will be a drop in the ocean compared to the affect on BTC price. The bitcoin price is a function of demand, if Tether tuns out to be a scam, and has been used to artificially inflate that demand, then the price can only go down. There is also the problem that if Tether collapses, there will be a run on all exchanges that accept Tether, particularly Bitfinex, and the resulting panic will send BTC through the floor.
phpnode··on Show HN: A blockchain alternative to Airbnb
> It's a bit like Amway but everyone is going to be in on it.

Is this supposed to be an endorsement?

phpnode··on Deep-copying in JavaScript
Not a no-op, it wraps the awaited value in `Promise.resolve()`:

   async function foo() {
      const a = await {then(resolve) { resolve(123); }};
      console.log(a);
    }
    foo();
phpnode··on Bitcoin.org removes “fast” and “low fees” from Bitcoin description page
I see this argument about censorship resistance a lot but I don't really understand it. If the main purpose of the technology is to evade law enforcement is this not a massive reason for governments to ban cryptocurrencies? The user of the technology is presumably committing a crime.
phpnode··on Kotlin: The Problem with null
It doesn't sound like the OP is claiming that at all, Coverity and tools like it use a technique called Symbolic Execution [0]

phpnode··on Npm operational incident, 6 Jan 2018
from the blog post:

> the integrity of these 106 packages were never jeopardized.

are we operating with different definitions of jeopardy here? 106 packages were absolutely at risk of harm during this window. The fact that some community members stepped up is irrelevant, a bad actor could have done a lot of damage here. I think this blog post is completely disingenuous, and doesn't make me trust npm.

phpnode··on The Criminal Underworld Is Dropping Bitcoin for Monero
A relatively tiny number of people will ever download the blockchain, a relatively tiny number of people use Tor, how many bits of information does a state level adversary need to deanonymize someone?
phpnode··on Founders Fund Makes Bet on Bitcoin
Where does this "bitcoin is a store of value, not a medium for exchange" nonsense come from? Literally the first line of the white paper:

> A purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash would allow online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution.

phpnode··on Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster mounted on Falcon Heavy Payload Adapter
Which planet is that? This will either explode on launch or orbit the sun for a billion years before burning up
phpnode··on Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster mounted on Falcon Heavy Payload Adapter
It will orbit the sun for hundreds of millions of years
phpnode··on Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster mounted on Falcon Heavy Payload Adapter
The cost of the second hand Tesla is nothing compared to the PR value of doing this.
phpnode··on Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster mounted on Falcon Heavy Payload Adapter
Or a wheel of cheese[0]

phpnode··on SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket sets up at Cape Canaveral ahead of launch
The tesla sadly lacks the ability to do a propulsive landing on mars, they'd need a sky crane like Curiosity had - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars_Science_Laboratory#Sky_cr...
phpnode··on SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket sets up at Cape Canaveral ahead of launch
The grid fins on the outer cores are aluminium, the centre core is titanium. Newer Falcons will have titanium grid fins (the outer cores have already flown once before)

Edit. Looking closer I'm wrong - the titanium grid fins are on the side boosters and the the centre core is aluminium

phpnode··on SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket sets up at Cape Canaveral ahead of launch
They haven't taken the legs off because they're going to attempt to land all 3 cores, probably 2 at the launch site and 1 on the drone ship
phpnode··on SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket sets up at Cape Canaveral ahead of launch
Not to mention that BFR can carry approx 3x the payload of Falcon Heavy to LEO
phpnode··on SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket sets up at Cape Canaveral ahead of launch
They will launch Musk's Tesla Roadster into orbit around the sun, where it will continue orbiting for hundreds of millions of years.
