pylua··on Expensive fridges are dying, leading to fraud claims
I love our Samsung fridge but it does have some issues. After trying to get it repaired Samsung eventually gave up and gave us a full refund.
pylua··on Trunk-Based Development
It gets even worse — convoluted GitHub action templates that no one can debug, attempting to impose on every newly created repository.

The projects at my company that use the complicated actions with gitflow are slower and less efficient.

When I release a service at my company I just do trunk based ,but I have to redo the GitHub actions initially to save it from itself. Over the long run it saves me a lot of time.

Because outliers attract eyeballs. People also find it very interesting what people do for a living in the United States.

This man also held an elite job, and it is a reminder that everyone puts their pants on one leg at a time , so to speak.

pylua··on Wayfair CEO tells employees to 'work longer hours' in year-end email
That’s a really high net loss. He’s going to need to do more than ask people to work more.
pylua··on What happened to the US machine tool industry?
That’s interesting . Sounds like it will end badly.

I do think the next major war will be nuclear and not one of attrition. America is not going to fight a traditional war it can’t win.

Distributed ledgers at scale have no value? I have a hard time believing that.

One crash on U.S. soil and Boeing will never be the same again.
pylua··on Hacking into an insurance company by exploiting their premium calculator
What if developers in other countries make more by putting obvious back doors in and selling to their respective government ?

Maybe applications that take personal and sensitive data should require a clearance. Companies that perform pen tests should also require clearances.

pylua··on Is A.I. The Death of I.P.?
Are they training it on music from top artists or their lyrics? Maybe they haven’t poked the wrong bear yet.
pylua··on 20.5 Years of XP and Agile (2020)
It started out with good intentions -- it is hard to dispute that. However, it has turned into one thing -- a fraud factory. People preaching it can be waterfall without all the proper planning of it.
pylua··on Ask HN: Why do computers/tablets/etc "freeze up" as they get older?
Yes, basically the only app I could use was a browser. I ended up giving to my mother in law. It’s more her speed.

I bet apple 2s run better today.

pylua··on Ask HN: Why do computers/tablets/etc "freeze up" as they get older?
My early iPad also seems unbearably slow. Not sure as to why.
pylua··on Vanna.ai: Chat with your SQL database
The initial part about sql already being that bridge was my first reaction, too.
pylua··on Vanna.ai: Chat with your SQL database
Yeah, same here. Seems like that approach is much simpler than this.

I guess the real benefit here is that you don’t need to understand the schemas so the knowledge is not lost when someone leaves a company.

Sort of an abstraction layer for the schemas

pylua··on Vanna.ai: Chat with your SQL database
I don’t fully understand the use of business case after reading the documentation. Is it really a time save?
pylua··on Would Luddites find the gig economy familiar?
I would argue taxi driving was a craft before it got commodified. Being a good taxi driver especially in a big city required specialized knowledge of the city.

Before cars also got more common driving skills were more of a craft.

I wonder if the day will come where this happens to lawyers and doctors with ai.

The main point is that the bar is constantly rising and most people can’t stay above it.

I think the schools unfortunately are not equipped to do resilience training — they are only able to pacify failures.
pylua··on It's Time to Nationalize and Then Break Up Boeing
I refuse to believe the only thing that can be broken up at Boeing is its planes.

Maybe no one has the guts to take proper action.

pylua··on The Downfall of Boeing – An Insider's Perspective (2003)
Countries need laws to protect against outsourcing, offshoring and to encourage vertical integration of building things inside the country. It gives the nation and its people a great sense of pride when this happens, a sense of pride and ownership Boeing has apparently not had for at least 21 years.

Due to the high cost of labor it is also something that is missing in the United States.

We need laws like a U.S. firm can only hire us citizens or that only products developed by citizens or by a visa holders can be consumed in the us.

pylua··on Incels need more mental health help, have "fundamental thinking errors"
I think in general men have to get use to rejection and it’s a tough pill to swallow. There seems to be by far more rejection than acceptance for a lot of young men, and it can be very difficult to persevere after being beaten down. I wish this would be researched more.
