pylua··on Disney's Internal Slack Breached? NullBulge Leaks 1.1 TiB of Data
I don’t know why it would be illegal, but it feels skeevy. Besides, Disney has a a good legal team — I wouldn’t be surprised if they could find a reason.
pylua··on Disney's Internal Slack Breached? NullBulge Leaks 1.1 TiB of Data
Is it even legal to view that data ?
pylua··on AT&T says criminals stole phone records of 'nearly all' customers in data breach
And earlier this year my ssn was on the dark web due to their leak (or vendor). One year of monitoring? No, I’m going to need it for life.

Security is not a concern. There is no real incentive to change the status quo. Make them pay for monitoring indefinitely .

pylua··on Former Twitter Employees $500M Severance Suit Dismissed
I’m sure Elon is laughing his ass off, just due to the irony.
pylua··on Big Ball of Mud (1999)
I feel like this is typically not the right choice.
pylua··on United Airlines Jet Loses Wheel in Repeat of March Incident
Actually , no. More like the environment is so toxic people are just rushed and forced to do what they can do instead of what they should. Too much work demanded to be done in too little time so naturally the work is poor. People have families to feed so they try their best, but are ultimately overwhelmed.

Good people leave because it is toxic and stressful. The people that stay are miserable and do what they can. People may complain to management that it is not possible but everything is swept under the rug.

Work may get outsourced to other countries where there a language barriers or no way to hold the firm accountable. However, the firm promises everything at half the price, and will refuse to deliver bad news. All the ceo sees is that the profits are up.

It is a consequence of demanding growth over people. Since it takes years for the negatives to manifest itself the causes listed above are obfuscated. People that have only worked behind a desk but never in a warehouse are probably wondering what went wrong.

pylua··on United Airlines Jet Loses Wheel in Repeat of March Incident
That’s a better way to look at it. I wonder what the average tenure of people at Boeing / maintenance techs is.
pylua··on United Airlines Jet Loses Wheel in Repeat of March Incident
I wonder if employees across the board are silently reciprocating the lack of support from businesses by doing subpar work, given that corporations have started to run down employees in the name of expanding profits.

It feels like a new phenomenon , and it feels very wide spread.

pylua··on Waymo got pulled over. What happens next in Phoenix?
Yeah, but you can’t manually encode every rule of common sense — especially if the rule is more analog than discrete.
pylua··on The A.I. Bubble is Bursting with Ed Zitron [video]
Having it generate really complicated code involving lots of math and physics typically fails.
pylua··on The A.I. Bubble is Bursting with Ed Zitron [video]
It’s not just software folks who are going to be run over. I use it to answer all sorts of questions I have in a variety of fields I know nothing about. It truly is a deflationary force.
pylua··on Waymo got pulled over. What happens next in Phoenix?
I feel often times that common sense violates rules. For instance, driving over a double yellow to give more space to something inside of the road. Maybe it is a set of rules some of which exist outside of common law.
pylua··on John Deere announces mass layoffs in Midwest amid production shift to Mexico
What will be left to produce in the United States? I have a negative feeling about the opportunity leaving the country, from white collar to blue collar. Part of the problem is that the dollar is way too strong.
pylua··on Financial services shun AI over job and regulatory fears
If things are so objective, what is the role of ai in this process ?
pylua··on Show HN: Let Grumpy AI Roast Your Startup Idea
If I want someone to roast my startup idea I can just take it directly to a bank or vc.
pylua··on Financial services shun AI over job and regulatory fears
Since making a decision in itself is subjective, does it matter if ai makes a decision ? Two bankers may have two conclusions on the same data, or may have two different risk tolerances or strategies.

As for audibility, all of the data is kept and archived. Ai is not deleting the data that is captured. I’m certain you could use an llm to generate convincing arguments either way based on an application.

For rejections they should be manually reviewed in most cases to cover your liability.

pylua··on Oklahoma Superintendent Ryan Walters orders Bible taught in schools
I believe this line of thought was one of the drivers of the original separation of church and state premise.
pylua··on ID verification service for TikTok, Uber, X exposed driver licenses
You would be surprised. Banking companies / their vendors for instance will outsource to india and Poland. Some of the people in Poland are citizens of Belarus. Us customer data is all over the world (account numbers / ssn / other personal info ).

It may be stored in the us but accessed by people in lcol areas.

pylua··on ID verification service for TikTok, Uber, X exposed driver licenses
They are probably outsourcing to a vendor who will do god knows what with it
pylua··on Open-Sora does pretty good video generation on consumer GPUs
This is more like a magic wand in terms of its effectiveness . I think that’s the difference.
pylua··on Amazon plans to launch discount store in bid to fend off Temu and Shein
Even stuff that starts out as premium eventually becomes cheap by knockoffs that don’t respect ip. In my experience the original brands try to buy out the knockoffs.
pylua··on Unschooling Is the Parenting Trend That's Pissing Everyone Off
Standardization of testing is different than standardizing the rate of learning.
pylua··on US prosecutors recommend Justice Department criminally charge Boeing
Seems like outsourcing to a lab to verify would have equal chances of fraud as the supplier ?
pylua··on US prosecutors recommend Justice Department criminally charge Boeing
I agree you should be. I don’t think our economic system enforces those checks. In practice auditing and pen testing are just farmed to the lowest cost place that says they will do everything. The system has no proper checks or balances against fraud.
pylua··on US prosecutors recommend Justice Department criminally charge Boeing
Two things:

Are they legally bound to do the verification themselves ? Seems like it would be more cost efficient to outsource that as well, which would just be prone to fraud.

I did not see it mentioned where they were aware that their suppliers were committing fraud. At these large companies the executives only look at the spreadsheets and take the contracts as fact, regardless if a third party can deliver.

pylua··on US prosecutors recommend Justice Department criminally charge Boeing
I don’t believe you can do that outsourcing in good faith. However, assuming they did and were lied to, does that constitute liability I would see them arguing they are the victim.
pylua··on US prosecutors recommend Justice Department criminally charge Boeing
Criminal negligence on the behalf of Boeing sounds like a stretch. If you have to verify the details of the work you outsource then everything would have to be done in house, and there would be no benefit to it. Are you criminally liable if your supplier commits fraud ?
pylua··on Review of Linux on Minisforum V3 AMD Ryzen Tablet
Traveling, traversing meeting rooms. Going on site. There are lots of reasons battery life is important in the corporate world without being present in front of your computer for more than six hours consistently.
pylua··on Testing Generative AI for Circuit Board Design
That’s not really reasoning, right ? Maybe humans rely disproportionate on association in general.
pylua··on Now is a good time to start a service business
The other drawback to buying expensive consulting services is that your company does not have the domain knowledge of the solution.
