I have found a number of long-term clients from UpWork. In fact, working with one since last 8-9 years, around the time UpWork was conceived.

Although not so much on UpWork these days, I personally feel that having a single fee is less confusing then the so called "progressive" fee bracket.

But Karachi has the best Biryani :)

This is the main reason I opt for freelance work rather than going full time. I don't want to spend so much time preparing for an interview / test / what-not only to be stalled or excused for some unmentionable reason.

Freelance market is awesome these days with more businesses reducing in-house staff and outsource whatever they can to cut operational costs.

In 2005, the earth trembled with a ferocity that shook our nation to its very core. The worst earthquake in our history left over 100,000 souls lost to us and 3.5 million displaced, a gaping wound that scarred us for years to come.

Social media was unheard of at that time. News sites and blogs were primary sources of information. I set up a WordPress blog to collect and disseminate critical information.

Spending 4-5 hours every day, I compiled information about relief efforts and rehabilitation activities. There was a section for missing persons too.

The blog was mentioned in the publications like the Washington Post, the New York Times, CNBC etc. It remained at number one spot in search engines for quite some time.

But it was the comments and emails from those who found hope in the midst of the chaos that truly fueled my drive. I heard from people who had reunited with their loved ones, others who received vital on-ground aid, and still others who found ways to lend a helping hand.

Though my blog may now be archived, the memory of those days still lingers on. For in that moment of crisis, I found the strength to make a difference, and my efforts brought light into the lives of so many.

I have worked with several US & European companies as freelance / outsourced resource. Had to sign some documents confirming that I am not the resident of clients' countries. There were no issues whatsoever in payments or anything else.

Maybe it is your tax status that's causing the issue. Have you considered forming an LLC (or equivalent in your location) and applying through it?

That can also happen with physical teams. I am familiar with several instances where one team member got a job somewhere and was able to pull a number of resources from current to new employer.

Short answer: Control.

Traditional employers want their employees back in the office since they are unable to control them otherwise. Employers and managers who have failed to grasp the concepts of remote working, lack in async communication, and have trust issues with their staff, want to keep a physical headcount of the sheep

The preferred stack will be Django with DRF and maybe some htmx, SQLite and deployed on DO app platform.

Alternatively, NextJS with Firebase (or any other cloud DB) and deployed at Vercel.

To consolidate, concentrate, and collaborate.

Consolidate: I have too many things going on at the moment. A day job, freelance consulting gigs, side projects, family and stuff. Need to sort my priorities and consolidate some of the stuff to avoid burnout.

Concentrate: Multi-tasking is more of a bane than a boon. It usually impacts concentration, leading to some not-so-good decisions. My goal is to reduce the number of active tasks at a time and focus more on things in front of me than worrying about the future.

Collaborate: Another goal of the upcoming year is to collaborate more. There are so many interesting problems around us that can be solved with collective wisdom. I am all for active collaboration, without spreading myself thin, of course.

Both actually. A niche site is usually centered around a specific topic. Content can be created manually or scraped and repurposed. The idea is to provide relevant transactional information and lead the user towards the conversion funnel which could be display ad, affiliate offer or any other sales pitch.

For instance, currently I am working on a website related to a coffee machine brand. I did the keyword and competition research, layout the site structure and monetization funnel. Now my team of writers is busy in creating content with the goal to turn out 30-40 highly quality content pieces in a month - enough to test the potential of the niche.

Another project I did previously was to set up mini sites for lawyers in a US state. I scraped existing lawyer directories to provide a lead management system to the client who then pitched development services to those without websites.

My bad. That's what I meant. :)

I have been doing consulting on the side, around 15-20 hours per day. Also into niche website development; building search engine optimized websites that are monetized through display and affiliate ads. Both side gigs usually generate more than the full time job.

Great point. This would apply to all potentially negative stuff and the noise out there in general. For instance, I have recently try to tune out the political noise around me. Stop watching news, limiting news sites to couple of times a day etc. And it really helped a lot. Less stress due to factors that are beyond my reach.
