Yeah... where's the source code?
rawsyntax··on Ask HN: How do you quit your (good) job gracefully?
You could give them extra notice, above and beyond the normal 2 weeks. Beyond that, you could also make your services available as freelance resource, set number of hours a week and a good rate for them. But that's only if you really want to.

rawsyntax··on Home working: Why can't everyone telework?
Where I live at least, there is no other option. I have 512kbps up and can't get anything else.

Not everyone wants to use bundler.

I agree that this needs to be fixed. But I don't think it's a something that needs a rant, and that must be fixed right away or I'll crash the server / migrate my projects.

I think we disagree on the severity of this issue.

I'd be happy if they fixed this within a month

rawsyntax··on Zed Shaw: Github's Favorite Joke
You wouldn't be listed on the contributors page, I just verified this. So nobody would see it but you.
rawsyntax··on Zed Shaw: Github's Favorite Joke
It's because he pushed commits. I have commit access on a private repo on github that I have not pushed commits, and I am not listed on the contributors page.
rawsyntax··on Zed Shaw: Github's Favorite Joke
It shows your forks not your repos you have commit access to. So it wouldn't show repos other people added you to
rawsyntax··on Zed Shaw: Github's Favorite Joke
You're wrong.

It shows your forks, not projects you have commit access to.

rawsyntax··on Zed Shaw: Github's Favorite Joke
Use fossil, it comes highly recommended from zed.... until recently
rawsyntax··on Zed Shaw: Github's Favorite Joke
As far as I can tell the only side effect of being added to a project, is that it shows up in your list of your repositories on your [private] dashboard.

Edit: see http://github.com/zedshaw , he's not listed on the dongml project, because that link only shows your forks, not repos you have commit access to

Edit 2: Why the downvotes, am I wrong?

rawsyntax··on Zed Shaw: Github's Favorite Joke
It seems unfair to put the abuse of one user on the ruby community as a whole.

Let's remind everybody zed published a rails is a ghetto rant that has since been taken down. He's already got much hate for the ruby community

rawsyntax··on Building a Startup: 12 Priceless Tools for Launching Your MVP
why is there a winner in source control at all? Is it a contest?
rawsyntax··on Importance of Side Projects
I find it can be hard to sync up schedules and reliably work on it each week.
rawsyntax··on Importance of Side Projects
I once met a few developers through a friend of mine. My impression was that they had no passion for the job. Programming pays well if you're good at it. I think there are a lot of programmers who are just paying their bills.
rawsyntax··on Importance of Side Projects
I always make sure the work that's paying the bills is done, before I work on the side project. Other than that, I'll typically commit to 5 hours a week. Usually in 2 sessions.

rawsyntax··on Miro 4, the open source music and video player, is released
It's not an iTunes replacement at all. I have an iPhone and buy apps through iTunes sometimes. This doesn't have that functionality (nor the syncing with the iPhone).

Also, it has a bittorrent client built in... Why?

rawsyntax··on Ask HN: How would I go about negotiating an extended working vacation?
Write down your needs, and have an honest conversation with your boss. Never know unless you ask.
rawsyntax··on Opa: one language for all the web app stack
Any example apps more complex than typical hello world stuff? I'm interested
rawsyntax··on What Makes Music Expressive?
It's funny. As humans we spend a lot of time trying to do things like a machine. For instance play a musical piece from memory perfectly.

Whereas we also spend time trying to get our machines to do things like a human. Like get a machine to play a piece as expressively as a human

rawsyntax··on New Concept in Software Testing: Introducing the "Bug Video"
The article goes on to say that it's not a new concept. What they're suggesting is basically screencast.com linked in a bug report. Good idea, but all the necessary parts are already built
rawsyntax··on G8 agenda calls for "civilized Internet": monitored, governed, controlled, taxed
It's my understanding that the Internet is structured in such a way that this kind of thing is impossible unless there is a massive buy in of all involved countries.

I very much prefer the Internet raw and unfiltered. I know enough to know which sites I like and which I don't.

Furthermore, the Internet is an expression of the human condition, and as such it is itself art, and should not be censored for this reason as well.

We already have enough trouble with ICE seizing domains
