so we couldn't go from 9365 to 0001. So we just went to 9366 and so we had 999-366 days to sort out a better version numbering system.
Quick example - in Argentina currently, the government is desperate to keep foreign currency reserves in USD, so they've banned most means of converting ARS to USD. This has created a dual exchange rate where the official value is 5:1 USD, but the "alternative" rate is 8:1 USD. The difficulty of conversion is causing the value of pesos to fall by nearly 40%. The "true" value of the peso is probably somewhere between those two numbers but the market's ability to discover its true price is being distorted.
If a currency as "big" as a member of the G20 ($450 billion GDB) can get massive distortions from closing just some of the easy conversion points, it could destroy bitcoin if the US Government made it difficult to convert into and out of USD.
Further, it seems to indicate that BTC would need to be incredibly liquid before converting to USD wouldn't matter that much.
If you use monit without runit, you end up in this weird world where monit starts and stops things in a very odd environment and it's flakier, environment variables are missing, etc. Also monit takes a long time to notice things are down, and doesn't start things right away on boot.
Finally if you don't boot your services with monit, you booted them with something else meaning that when a restart occurs, you're starting a service in a different environment than you booted in. weird.
so, let monit check health of things, let runit start and stop things.
Mobile clients are not great but are good enough.
But here we are talking about him 1 year later. I think he probably shouldn't have done it, but on which side of the pg/YC line of creative subversion did his stunt actually fall?
This is why I always tell people that Heroku is actually NOT a good solution if you truly need scale. They're good for staging, launch, and an early traffic emergency or two. After that, ONCE YOU NEED TO SCALE, it's cheaper just to run your own servers, because the problem that Heroku is solving for you becomes a smaller and smaller percentage of your overall oeprations budget.
There are also calculators listed in the FAQs that will help you determine what you need to eat to maintain your bodyweight, lose fat, gain muscle, etc, over a user-selected window of time.
First thing I realized - that the difference between tracking your "macros" and not is like programming with Word or with vi/emacs/slickedit/etc - the difference is AMAZING.
The next thing I realized - is that to get enough protein if you're even moderately active, you have to eat A LOT - eggs, milk, meat, tuna, and even then I still have to supplement with protein supplements.
Now, combine the diet knowledge with a beginner weight training program like Starting Strength and the effect is amazing. I've gained 10 pounds of muscle and lost 10 lbs of fat. I've doubled all my lift numbers (which are still admittedly quite low) in four months. I have far more energy and other activities - I occasionally play tennis - I play better and feel stronger.
Edited to add - and most importantly, use something like myfitnesspal.com - which is free, has a great app, and has millions of food items, and track everything for just a few weeks. it will teach you what protein/fat/carbs common foods you eat have.
