splitbrain··on Our lander’s asleep
I assume that Philae isn't meant to be powered directly by sunlight but has an intermediate battery? So wouldn't it make sense to simply wake him once this battery is full, do some experiment, send the data and go back to sleep until recharged again? Shouldn't that work even with low light conditions, just that the sleep phases would be much longer than planned? The article sounds like they aren't sure Philae will ever wake up again.
splitbrain··on Decrypting Android Snapchat images
In the end the application needs a key to decrypt the storage. That key has to be stored somewhere on the device. On a rooted phone there is no place out of reach, so all they can do is make the storage obscure. Unless the hardware provides some inaccessible secure thingy there's not much they can do... I guess even if it did a script like that could access the secure thingy via USB debug as well.

I don't think the developers are to blame. They did what they could.

The real problem is that snapchat promises something it can not technically deliver. Once a photo leaves your phone and is delivered to somebody else, you lost control over that photo.

splitbrain··on Turn Node Applications into Executables
The post speaks about HTML but as far as I can see this does not contain a rendering component similar to what node-webkit does. Am I right?
splitbrain··on Screenshot URL tracking and niki-bot
Can anyone recommend a similar extension as AwesomeScreenshot without this shady behaviour?
splitbrain··on Marka: Icon transformations
What's it good for?
splitbrain··on Eloquent JavaScript, Second Edition
The sources (https://github.com/marijnh/Eloquent-JavaScript) are written in ASCIIdoc which has an epub export. So it should be easy to build one yourself.
splitbrain··on Paletton – Color Scheme Designer
this is cool. Would be nice to have a way to pick palettes directly at your site instead of going to colorlovers. Maybe by searching?
splitbrain··on Duckie: Rubber Ducking as a service
It provided me with a really good solution to my problems:

Can you describe the problem in a paragraph? Please use small sentences, I'm only a duck.

> My colleagues are dumb!

>> Is your colleagues the thing that has the problem?

> yes

>> Can you explain what your colleagues does?

> They do very very dumb things.

>> Do you fully understand how it does what it does? Could you split your colleagues into smaller chunks?

> split them into chunks? Cheers duck, I think I have it now! grabs axe

splitbrain··on Ignoring the amount customers confirm is no security bug according to PayPal
This confuses the heck out of me every time I have to work with the Paypal API. I never understood why they implemented it this way. It makes absolutely no sense IMHO but has always been this way. I'm surprised that this isn't used much more often for fraud.
splitbrain··on Minicart.js - Portable PayPal Shopping Cart
I just learned about both projects and didn't dig deep into it, but it seems to me that minicart.js buttons will still work for users without JavaScript because they are "real" Paypal buttons. That might be an advantage over simplecart which seems to have no fallback for noscript users.
splitbrain··on Searchcode: A source code search engine
A bit off-topic. But are there any open source projects like this that can be self-hosted, working on a largish local directory of projects?
splitbrain··on Scan business cards into more than 250 apps
"This app is incompatible with all of your devices." I have a Nexus 4 and Nexus 7. Not exactly weird hardware.
splitbrain··on Hacking Sonos
A bit unrelated, but can anyone enlighten me what he means by "geofence" to detect his phone leaving the apartment?
splitbrain··on Parallax effect from Google Lens Blur photos
All I see is a black page? (Chromium 33.0.1750.152)

404s for the script and CSS files

splitbrain··on *NEVER* sanitize your inputs
by properly escaping the output, not sanitizing the input
splitbrain··on 2014 F1 explained: What is brake by wire?
Hmm, why not simply always use the recovery system but just not store the energy in the battery if it's full already (or capacity reached or whatever)?
splitbrain··on Linus Torvalds: “I'm happily hacking on a new save format using ‘libgit2’”
he talks about a save file format, not a file system. or do we have different concepts of "file system"?
splitbrain··on Clear Sans
looks nice, but no info which scripts it covers?
splitbrain··on Drop the ego and prove "I could make that so much better"
In-App-Purchase
splitbrain··on Hemingway makes your writing bold and clear
The source of this would be useful to integrate such features in other apps (like editors). An API might do as well at least for online tools like blogs. As a standalone site it's too much hassle to integrate it into your daily workflow I think.
splitbrain··on Life is a game, this is your strategy guide
This is awesome. What I'd really like to have is an improved HUD for this game that permanently displays the internal states of Health, Energy and Willpower. Google Glass + some biosensors maybe.
splitbrain··on Show HN: An API for gender classification
Without a location parameter this is pretty useless. Andrea for example is a male name in Spain and Italy as far as I know.

splitbrain··on Bitcoin Private Key Necromancy
I guess this wouldn't work with an encrypted wallet.dat which was introduced later than 2011.
splitbrain··on RJ45-sized Linux networking server goes IPv6
Isn't IPv6 a feature of the Linux networking stack? Shouldn't everything that runs Linux be IPv6 capable? Or is there some IPv6 stuff implemented in hardware here?
splitbrain··on ThingCharger: A new charger for all your things
For a second I hoped someone decided to build the universal charger I dream of: http://www.splitbrain.org/blog/2012-11/24-christmas_wish_uni...

Well, I guess I have to dream on.

splitbrain··on Someone just made a $147,239,214 Bitcoin transfer
Interesting! Any idea how the verified tags work? Who verifies what and how there?
splitbrain··on Looking back on the game 'Myst' on its 20th anniversary
Am I the only one who found Myst incredibly sterile and boring coming from LucasArts and Sierra Adventure games? I never played it for more than maybe 20 minutes.
splitbrain··on IOS 7 Passcode Security Flaw
Shouldn't that be the default, then? (I don't have an iPhone so I can't check it)
splitbrain··on Show HN: Serverless OAuth on a Github page
If I understand it correctly the serverless part means that the whole OAuth process is handled in JavaScript on the client (the user's browser). There is no server-to-server communication.
splitbrain··on Please visit Dilbert.com to read this feature.
It seems Dilbert.com is killing RSS-Support. Their feed item only show "Dilbert readers - Please visit Dilbert.com to read this feature. Due to changes with our feeds, we are now making this RSS feed a link to Dilbert.com."

Any alternatives for my daily Dilbert fix, short of visiting the website?
