splitstud··on Six dead after tornadoes destroy Amazon warehouse near St Louis
These are great devices, especially the better models. Radio including weather band, flashlight and phone charger, plug in a lamp or water kettle. Must have on the gulf coast.
splitstud··on We only talk about the third attack on Pearl Harbor
The Japanese military was not one that their contemporaries dismissed lightly. Casually assuming racism as well?
splitstud··on We only talk about the third attack on Pearl Harbor
And yet the US went from not being on a war footing to rolling up the Japanese forces across a huge war zone in 4 years. And this was the side hustle to the main job. But go ahead and misunderstand what happened while throwing racist comments around.
splitstud··on Redesigned Notepad for Windows 11
Wow, still a thing?
splitstud··on All sound recordings prior to 1923 will enter the US public domain in 2022
Then we would be well advised to listen to the creators of such work, who largely tend to describe the type of system you want to do away with.
splitstud··on All sound recordings prior to 1923 will enter the US public domain in 2022
Abuse implies a right. What kind of right does anyone have to see IP become public domain? The only reason that it should sunset at all is to release society from the burden of enforcing old IP at some point.
splitstud··on Dam the Bering Strait, use nuclear-powered propellers to melt poles (2020)
Or 50-75% of the nonsense that comes out of the mouths of politicians. The solution to a knotted ball of string is not to yank the tag end you see, but it's so very tempting.
splitstud··on I resigned from Twitter
The complaints around censorship have to do with users posting anything related to certain viewpoints (in fact or in error) no longer being able to post anything at all.

Shaping the tenor of public discourse while also claiming that one is not legally a publisher is not something we should allow in our society.

If you think this has anything to do with merely 'lies' or flaming, you're not keeping up.

splitstud··on I resigned from Twitter
A platform to induce change was the highpoint?
splitstud··on I resigned from Twitter
Having worked at the c level and just below at 3 large US corps, let me just say it matters. Ceo is more important than QB I'm the nfl. It's that dramatic.
splitstud··on Low interest rates in advanced countries have pushed money into real estate
So the solution you propose is raising interest rates even though the we couldn't afford the interest in our national debt? Then we ruin the value of household savings with inflation, raise taxes so that our economy falters from both lack of demand and higher costs for producers, thus ensuring neither individuals or companies can meet this higher tax burden?
splitstud··on Boards are dangerous to founder/CEOs
Mostly I believe it happens because 95% of tech founders have no business being anywhere near the c Suite. So they fall prey to venture bandits who will let them call themselves ceo or entrepreneur. If you're actually ceo material, use debt, private or commercial. Figure out the Toronto stock exchange.
splitstud··on The Catherine Project: A new experiment in liberal education
Right. It is remarkable that anyone would think of this method as a fad.
splitstud··on The US is making its biggest investment in broadband internet ever
And the only reason we still dress it up with voting for symbolic frontmen is so it's not clear who we need to hang to fix this.
splitstud··on Red Snapper Filet Might Have Been Caught by Drug Runners
I've fished the gulf for 50 years. The gulf is better stocked with fish now than in my youth. The thanks for this goes to the GCCA and state regs.
splitstud··on How to invest without knowing the future
How many companies have you run or helped run through inflationary peaks? How many households?
splitstud··on Why Zulip will not get on the blockchain bandwagon
I wasn't going to jump on the blockchain bandwagon and what is a zulip?
splitstud··on Don't build your castle in other people's kingdoms
Yeah but what if you don't have a kingdom? What if you don't need a catle?
splitstud··on The welfare effects of eviction policies
Taxes are costs, and costs are fungible.
splitstud··on The welfare effects of eviction policies
Seeing as how he has demonstrated the ability to read, it's obvious he's old enough to know better.
splitstud··on Why is baseball the most literary of sports?
Keep in mind that you can't throw a 60ish mph knuckleball without having the ability to throw a mid 80s fastball
splitstud··on The Views That Made Me Persona Non Grata at MIT
It is exactly "judging people by their skin color". 100%
splitstud··on Fossil fuels doomed in New York as regulator blocks new gas power plants
Oh cmon there's literally billionaires they can take the money from
splitstud··on Ad Astra: The coming battle over space
I sure wish we had a code of conduct for space that could be ignored like the rules regarding sea and air.
splitstud··on Repeat Yourself, a Lot
In the context of a project, it also gives the 'mirrored' a chance to reconsider.
splitstud··on Reasons Truck Drivers Walk Out the Door [video]
Confront them with their own beliefs? You mean invalidate their policy preferences by just ascribing them to racism?
splitstud··on Howard University’s removal of classics is a spiritual catastrophe
Blooms list is rejecting bringing politics into the classics canon
splitstud··on Predicting stock market returns from news photos
Sure. That would be why using this or a similar method as a synthesis or proxy to aid prediction could have value, right? An issue is that methods of money management one might use in conjunction with this type of system can themselves have determinism for total returns. Measuring effectiveness would be hard.
splitstud··on Police can’t demand you reveal your phone passcode then tell a jury you refused
And it's a requirement, or highly preferred in a lot of US jurisdictions as well.
splitstud··on Is nuclear power our best bet against climate change?
The other energy sources don't require stable societies a thousand years from now.
