sysguest··on Bonsai: Janestreet's UI Library
"due to it being dynamically typed"

hmm ok nope

sysguest··on Rust project goals: Immobile types and guaranteed destructors
idk maybe that's not a bad thing?
sysguest··on The AI bubble is popping; we just don't know it yet
yeah you can't expect gamers to pay enormous "investment bank money" just to play games...

plus, even old gpus run games fine

sysguest··on The AI bubble is popping; we just don't know it yet
well there are just 2 sources for website profits:

1. money from advertisements (from views, visits): you need to be on google search results at the bear minimum.

2. money from non-advertisements, mostly-offline (eg. you sell preminum stuff/service): you CAN hand out pamphlets to your service website IF your ROI per visit is so good to be true...

but even in the 2nd case, it really helps to be on the google's search result

sysguest··on The AI bubble is popping; we just don't know it yet
well if bubble pops, everyone will die EXCEPT google

UNLESS openAI/etc actually succeeds in making AGI that never hallucinates and goes over the current LLM limitations

as for google... well they own the web

(+google has plenty of other revenue sources, so it can just pay out its AI survival)

if you're a website owner, would you welcome chatgpt/etc's data-collection bots?

but... as for google's bots... you need your website to be on the Google search results...

sysguest··on Don't be a meat proxy
yeah similar thing happened to me

gov website changed, seems to have ditched buggy "new" data-collection features

said I couldn't find the menus even after logging in...

shares screenshot and 'expected menu paths' to get there, says "it's simple, look! claude says look there"

repeatedly asked "have you actually checked?" but... reply was "listen, I'm doing a big favor to you..."

...fking crazy...

some people are treating LLMs as some god-send truths

now, since this is coming from the C-level, I can't expect anything good to happen here

sysguest··on AliExpress hit with record $629M fine for counterfeit and illegal goods
well maybe that comment was to diverge public opinion on "anti-counterfeit" here...

the main discussion here was about chinese ecommerce (temu, aliexpress) selling counterfeit fake products...

and this guy shows up saying "products are unsafe!"

well that pattern is a bit... too obvious to me

sysguest··on AliExpress hit with record $629M fine for counterfeit and illegal goods
well if you're some random guy in china pretending to be a company, that PIPCU can't kick in your doors

and it takes only few typings and clickings to forge a new company ID...

so... solution? deposit money for ID-guarantee.

sysguest··on Are AI Labs Pelicanmaxxing?
well that holds IF svgmaxxing is 100% "code-writing-maxxing"

...which.. hmm I dunno if they are same or not

sysguest··on Blender 5.2 LTS
well if you looked at blender 2 days, UI was really "user-hostile" level difficult/un-intuitive

I think about blender 4? there was a big UI overhaul here

sysguest··on Leaded gas was a known poison the day it was invented (2016)
> engineer and a principle force behind this technology

well he's not some biochemist...

and even biochemists have trouble within their own field because there's so much 'unknown' stuff in biochem (eg Thalidomide scandal)

sysguest··on EU Parliament greenlights Chat Control 1.0
well... maybe color blindness?
sysguest··on TypeScript 7
> I don't recall anyone disliking types

> where people would say goofy things like they couldn't use Python because it's untyped. That's insane: Python is strongly typed. It's also dynamically typed, which is a different dimension.

hmm maybe you don't understand type-checking INSIDE IDE, NOT during runtime?

sysguest··on Samsung, SK Hynix, Micron Sued in US over Memory Price Fixing
hmm maybe the plaintiff should sue nvidia?
sysguest··on The Baffling World of Masayoshi Son's Presentations (2020)
hmm g00se?
sysguest··on The Baffling World of Masayoshi Son's Presentations (2020)
translation: goose has constipation
sysguest··on Anonymous GitHub account mass-dropping undisclosed 0-days
hmm maybe if we wait longer, LLMs will learnt to be like "none-em-dashers", and we "em-dashers" will prevail?
sysguest··on 45°C cooling design cuts data center water use to near zero
> Heat is not a cost

hmm? maybe it differs from time to time? on summer, it IS cost (nearby need to run AC)

sysguest··on Package Managers need global hooks
> perhaps we need a fine grained permission system like Apple provides, but for clis

well deno has the stuff... but deno's not popular (yet)

sysguest··on Project Valhalla, Explained: How a Decade of Work Arrives in JDK 28
idk maybe java should adopt something similar to rust's "edition"?
sysguest··on USB Power Delivery: Plugging into the Benefits
security-wise, usb-c is the worst scenario device I've ever seen -- unless you're Apple, you can't make a security-boundary without infringing patent US11205021B2

for laptops, a bad-actor usb-c cable/charger can do so much more, unless your laptop has AI that can distinguish "is this signal really coming from monitor/keyboard/etc ?" I'd rather have plain-old DC adapters (or usbc to dc)

sysguest··on Pokémon Go Scans Trained the Navigation Tech for Military Drones
yeah if the article was about "helping the infantry", then I would have 100% agreed.

but... drones? that's just yellow journalism optimized for SEO keyword (and anyone who clicks an article with 'drone')

sysguest··on Pokémon Go Scans Trained the Navigation Tech for Military Drones
those predators and friends are really high-altitude drones, and for them these low-altitude (human) level pics don't give them any advantage
sysguest··on Pokémon Go Scans Trained the Navigation Tech for Military Drones
well the article writes AS IF the whole intention was to:

"get data for drone warfare" ...in 2021 (before the russian invasion...)

but did we even EXPECT drone warfare to influence the war THIS MUCH back then?

well not me -- I actually thought russia would beat the crap out of ukraine within a month (even after the failed spetsnaz attack on zelensky)

the article's assumptions only makes sense IF some people had time machines, or if CIA has some know-everything future prophet

(not to mention: drones need TOP TO BOTTOM view, not bottom-to-top view)

anyway, my verdict: sensational yellow journal article, nothing more/less

sysguest··on South Korean Forums Will Need to Scan Every Images with AI Censorship Tools
maybe that's where the irony starts?
sysguest··on South Korean forums will need to scan every images with AI censorship tools
hmm so which sane country would 'import' this?
sysguest··on Artificial intelligence is not conscious
maybe we can debate, but not arrive at conclusion?
sysguest··on Malicious npm packages detected across Red Hat Cloud Services
hmm maybe time to get into deno?

I mean, the current "allow ANY filesys operation" can't cope with modern supply-chain attacks...

with deno, you can specify folders/files that the execuble/library CAN touch (or CANNOT)

sysguest··on Dav2d
this

for other cases, I can just wait more for my cpu/gpu/cloud to do the job

sysguest··on Please Do Not Vibe Fuck Up This Software
idk maybe LLM people should only commit what they actually understand, only in bite-size (maximum few lines in few files) and with at least 1~5 tests that shows the edge cases

drive-by 20-file pull-requests that ultimately end up costing maintainer's burden seems to hit hard here.
