sysguest··on Iran demands Bitcoin fees for ships passing Hormuz during ceasefire
hmm so the iranian diplomatic side can't even read english...?

I mean, I wouldn't expect a random diplomat to read iranian... but would 99.999999999% expect to read english

those iranian side who didn't point out "hey english version is different!" are all bonkers

sysguest··on US and Iran agree to provisional ceasefire
this

think there will be some coalition of some sorts

just mentioning "toll" is enough to "be made an example"

sysguest··on US and Iran agree to provisional ceasefire
hmm? Suez is a man-made facility, and it costs money to operate it

so... maybe we should go back to the pirate days yarrr?

well truncating or not, that seems to be a major security UI issue...?

hmm if you know how patents work, "Google having designed AV1" isn't same as "Google 100% sure AV1 doesn't have patent infringes"

even if you're google, you can't be 100% sure if there's some obscure patent lurking around the corner

sysguest··on Iran strikes leave Amazon availability zones "hard down" in Bahrain and Dubai
hmm maybe aws should make datacenter locations secret?

I mean, why even publish those locations?

if this is purely for PR, they can publish fake locations...

if this is for VIP visits... well you can always send private invitations

sysguest··on MiniStack (replacement for LocalStack)
idk maybe AWS should create one?

I mean, if we can use "virtual-AWS", it would dramatically lower entry-barrier for devs/companies who are scared of "tales of huge aws bills" and such

sysguest··on The Claude Code Source Leak: fake tools, frustration regexes, undercover mode
well if I know a specific LLM has certain tendencies (eg. some model is likely to introduce off-by-one errors), I would know what to look for in code-review

I mean, of course I would read most of the code during review, but as a human, I often skip things by mistake

hmm gotta try that

sysguest··on The Claude Code Source Leak: fake tools, frustration regexes, undercover mode
well you know 100% know what dependabot does
sysguest··on The Claude Code Source Leak: fake tools, frustration regexes, undercover mode
well maybe?

co-authoring doesn't hide your authorship

if I see someone committing a blatantly wrong code, I would wonder what tool they actually used

sysguest··on Iran oil revenue soars as it's the only exporter out of Hormuz
well if the current president was Biden, people wouldn't complain even if the plan was bringing 100,000 ground troops.

Of course whether people like/trust the current president or not matters on the range of military power he can project on foreign land

dang if it was obama, it could have been 500,000 and almost no one would even fuss

isn't that "hackers" supposed to get some unknown secret scandalous stuff?

if you're digging amazon FOR them, what's the point of their activity?

and by "digging", yes it's digging because is that link THE FIRST RECOMMENDED THING from amazon?

gosh I didn't even say "trump cabinet is the best and perfect"...

...damn did you get like 300 on SAT reading?

sysguest··on Iran oil revenue soars as it's the only exporter out of Hormuz
yeah that's why I said the whole operation is "all or nothing"
sysguest··on Iran oil revenue soars as it's the only exporter out of Hormuz
> it’s just a hated state apparatus trying to survive.

well unfortunately its survival would mean tighter control of iranian populace: it now has an excuse to do so ("are you an american spy? why do you disobey higher command?")

iran will become more like north korea more than before...

as for the iranian people? well those guys could have been driving porsche like qataris people...

sysguest··on Iran oil revenue soars as it's the only exporter out of Hormuz
well I didn't expect this to be easy

but at least I expected US to be more prepared than this

sysguest··on Iran-linked hackers breach FBI director's personal email
well by that logic, you can argue every top gov officials who didn't sign up for https://landing.google.com/intl/en_in/advancedprotection/ is incompetent, BECAUSE NSA IS part of the government ?

dude at least you should have brought an internal recommendation memo targeted all fbi people, not "but fbi has this and this division..."

lets say your college have astrophysics and other big departments. Are you really expert on those areas? Can you expect all highly-regarded professors to know most things from other departments? Do all 'competent' art professors know about astrophysics?

sysguest··on Iran oil revenue soars as it's the only exporter out of Hormuz
well I guess its time to grow nitrogen-fixing plants like beans & peanuts...
sysguest··on Iran-linked hackers breach FBI director's personal email
> POTUS had hired someone with relevant FBI experience instead of a political hack.

well what percentage of highly-rated FBI people have actually enabled that feature?

did FBI had some internal recommendation to enable that feature?

FBI isn't NSA people...

sysguest··on Iran-linked hackers breach FBI director's personal email
no but I've been interested in cryptography/anonimity stuff, so I see a lot of suggestions/advertisements related to those: signal, telegram, proton-mail, etc
sysguest··on Iran oil revenue soars as it's the only exporter out of Hormuz
damn the whole operation is all-or-nothing... US just shouldn't have started this if it couldn't finish off the regime cleanly

this is going to become a worldwide economic disaster:

iran learnt it can 1. bully nearby gulf-nations 2. block hormuz

without much retaliation, and US can't do much due to internal politics (well a lot of people don't like Trump...)

so what cards do each nations have left?

can US "talk" with / use threats against iran and "make it a good guy"?

just talking threats can't force current regime to 'become good' -- bombing's not scary anymore

even economic gifts won't work: economically, iran is not vietnam: it has huge oil reserves, and it can hold hormuz hostage -- so time and effort can't make current regime 'a friend of US'

so... diplomatic chance is LONG GONE...

even if biden or obama becomes the president, they can't solve this: the 'benefit of doubt' is gone

so... unfortunately... the only card left for US and its allies... is ground troops... or some alternative to hormuz...

sysguest··on Iran-linked hackers breach FBI director's personal email
well if you're listing your hopes, not talking from what those hackers brought...

that just means the operation is a dismal failure -- nothing to see

this really undermines iran hackers' claims regarding 'big things' on trump administration

sysguest··on Iran-linked hackers breach FBI director's personal email
idk if you have to dig in and link to some amazon link...

this iran hack is a dismal propaganda failure...

nothing much to see I guess

sysguest··on Iran-linked hackers breach FBI director's personal email
yeah that world-event gambling stuff gotta stop...

I mean, if I can send troops, I would bet on sending troops, wont I?

those gamblers who aren't Trump or any 'event initiators themselves' must be idiots of extraordinary quality

sysguest··on Iran-linked hackers breach FBI director's personal email

well even I haven't seen/heard about this...

maybe google should advertise more?

(or... maybe I don't look important to google :( ?)

sysguest··on Iran-linked hackers breach FBI director's personal email
woah but even I haven't heard about that gmail feature...?

maybe google doesn't advertise about this much?

sysguest··on Miscellanea: The War in Iran
well... I actually think even when trump is impeached, the democrats will continue -- even more so, to call mr trump "a weak president"

I mean, can US and its allies exactly stop at status quo?

Iran just learnt it can missile nearby neighbors and demand $2M toll fee on the strait users...

even if US just backs down from "epic wut", will iran become "the good guy" and never missile neighbors and stop demanding that $2M toll?

nope: rather, that would mean US and allies will lose its deterrence against Iran completely

iran'll start bullying more on those neighbors, and the toll fee will go up: $2M to $5M to $10M to... even $100M -- I mean, what's stopping iran from doing so?

anyway, I'm just surprised everyone in this forum is trying their best only to say "trump is such an idiot to start the war (well duh?)", and not to look at what choices each nations had/have after trump's dickhead move
