Or someone could come in an pop in a drive with their own kernel.
Nevermind the reality that I'd never completely follow through with the security measures needed on a personal machine. I'd just be giving myself an active role in my home's security theater.
I just encrypt my home folder and don't trust machines/networks for important things.
I would say that with the acknowledgment and understanding of how your circumstances brought you to where you are in life comes another component: how you react to that awareness.
If you can see how you benefit from the disparity and injustice, and that something can be done about it, yet you willingly choose comfort and the possibility of lower taxes, the judgment is cast on you.
Your happiness, safety, enjoyment and advancement in life is not mutually exclusive with ensuring society provides a sufficient safety net.
I'm sure there are literal lapdogs endowed with more net worth and power than I have by their owners.
edit: I should clarify that wealth is not correlated with gene quality or fitness, but it may follow familial/social/emotional connections of the wealthy that seem to point to a "good lineage". Case in point: royal families

Who is the us "efficiency" has helped? At the end of the day, do I benefit from the fact that Company X's truck no longer needs a driver?
Does that benefit really outweigh ruining the livelihoods of millions of people, whose family now can't pay taxes and lost their ability to see doctors or to maintain a roof over their heads?
When do we get to reap the benefits of this automation?
There is a lot of money being made by letting people go and letting the tax payer pay for the societal damage.
Will those millions of drivers be transferred to a new department within the company? Will they get a severance check from the profits of this automation? Or will unemployment and lack of medical care shave 20+ years off their lives so a shipping company can save a dime that society gets to pay for?
Efficiency is celebrating the fact that you can drop your expensive annual costs and the liability of employing humans to conduct your business. People are expensive and demand things like rights and benefits. Machines can be had with a purchase/lease and maintenance costs.
Machines won't negotiate or get a lawyer. That's efficiency.
Meanwhile, we'll strip the earth to build these machines in the name of efficiency while more of the population is made useless and left to rot by an economy that functions without them.
Rent-seeking and leasing of equipment are more likely, ensuring that the power relations of today are secured for the future.
GvR supports optional type checking in Python and has written a few documents laying out its defense, so it is in the works.
That isn't justice, it's politically motivated theater. They even rented out a basketball court, seats and all, for their production.
This is a convenient and profitable which hunt fueled by the money we decided to burn witches with.
The amount of time and resources spent on the incident are far out of proportion to crimes occurring all over the world by all sides.
You know how often we take out politically inconvenient people? So often we have a kill list.
The last times tribunals like this were held was Tokyo, Nuremburg, Cambodia then Sierra Leone.
Singling out this incident is not in sync with the esteem we usually hold towards these trials to hold powerful state level actors responsible for the mass crimes against humanity and millions of deaths incurred because of their actions.
If this was about justice people who actually have some control over the matter would be tried. It isn't, so a proxy tribunal with literally no defendants is held.
Justice is served.
The biggest direct threat to my freedom, and the freedom of the masses, is the expansion of executive power.

The government already uses the data the private sector collects. It wants better, real-time data using public and invasive techniques that aren't profitable for consumer businesses yet.
I am against both access to that data collected by the private sector and the expansion of mass surveillance. The fact that the data exists is a problem and, ideally, we wouldn't live in a world where surveillance at this extreme for advertising was acceptable.
There are tools people with power shouldn't have access to, because people with power do not have a good track record of using them in good faith.
How is this not a downgrade?
