theultdev··on DARPA’s new X-76
Anyone can claim anything. That is not proof. Surely you can see we've been down this road before with fabricated claims. I do hope that Epstein's inner circle is taken down, but let's get hard evidence. Some claims from the 80s and old pictures of them together in public is not proof.

There IS more evidence on other people though, and I hope those people get what they deserve. It's fucking sick.

theultdev··on DARPA’s new X-76
Okay I'll bite. Where is the part I'm supposed to be looking at?

Where does it "all connect for you" in that document I guess is what I'm saying.

Really trying to understand the theory here.

theultdev··on DARPA’s new X-76
I'm aware. Doesn't really change anything does it?

I respect people's opinion in their domain.

His take was pretty much just hearsay.

Very poor taste, doesn't belong here.

btw: ult is a project, I'm the dev of it. but yes I am that too (jk?).

theultdev··on FFmpeg at Meta: Media Processing at Scale
It made PHP 5-7 usable in production, otherwise it would have died before we got to modern PHP.

Of course it wasn't merged in, it was a separate compiler, it certainly inspired future optimizations though.

But the point is, it was a very useful stop-gap solution for the community.

Also would like to highlight that they have contributed a lot to PHP upstream in addition to that.

theultdev··on FFmpeg at Meta: Media Processing at Scale
FB actually made PHP faster (HHVM) and contributed to it upstream with bug fixes (like they are doing with ffmpeg here)

Wordpress did nothing to help further PHP other than adoption (which is still important, but not as important)

theultdev··on FFmpeg at Meta: Media Processing at Scale
WordPress is keeping PHP alive now

But PHP wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for Meta and it's support.

theultdev··on FFmpeg at Meta: Media Processing at Scale
I never said they were still using it (they are in some cases)

But when the backend world was either Java or ASP, FB chose PHP and helped us other small companies out.

They eventually went Hack, the rest went Node for the most part.

But during those PHP years they gave us HHVM and many PHP improvements to get us through.

theultdev··on FFmpeg at Meta: Media Processing at Scale
That's a common take here but I'd take React any day.

Been doing this for 20 years. React/JSX is the easiest (for me)

theultdev··on FFmpeg at Meta: Media Processing at Scale
Meta is the sole reason PHP is still alive. Also a big reason we're not in MVC hell.

They bet on open source and they open source a lot of technology.

It's one of the best companies when it comes to open source.

I don't know how much total they donate, but I've seen tons of grants given to projects from them.

theultdev··on FontCrafter: Turn your handwriting into a real font
People write in cursive all the time. You mainly sign in cursive.

Kids are being taught cursive again. Texas has been doing it again for awhile.

No idea why they stopped teaching it for a few years, kind of messed those kids up.

How do people have a signature if they don't know cursive?

Do they just print it twice lol?

theultdev··on Nintendo Sues U.S. Government for Tariff Refunds
Not really. The scope of the judgement was universal tariffs weren't allowed for that specific invocation of IEEPA 50 U.S.C. §§ 1701

The Trump administration immediately invoked Section 122 for a 10% duty on nonexempt imports and announced expanded Section 232 and 301 investigations.

theultdev··on Show HN: Moongate – Ultima Online server emulator in .NET 10 with Lua scripting
I haven't played in 10 years or so, but it's still going.

That game was my life. It's how I learned how to code among many other skills.

theultdev··on Show HN: Moongate – Ultima Online server emulator in .NET 10 with Lua scripting
Yup. Tibia you had this too. People begging in the depot for gold and "itens plx"
theultdev··on Long Range E-Bike (2021)
I have an EV as well as an ICE truck. Powertrain is not a concern. It's the load a bike can carry vs a car overall. The bonus of having storage and rain cover is extra. Sure you can do a lite version but why?

I don't want to risk having an injury on a bike either. A car is much safer.

theultdev··on Long Range E-Bike (2021)
I didn't move a goal post, that is my reality when it comes to groceries.

You realize everyone has different needs right? I stated that in a GP.

theultdev··on Long Range E-Bike (2021)
But that is what we end up needing.

Is the goal post a few groceries you get for a few days?

I have never seen one of these ridiculous looking bikes in any city or anywhere.

Where do y'all live, a Dr. Suess book?

I will not bike them in the rain, With soggy bags and squishy pain.

I will not bike them up the hill, When every pedal feels like drill.

I will not bike them when it’s hot, With sweat that pours and cheese that rots.

theultdev··on Long Range E-Bike (2021)
2 six packs is 2 days worth of beer.

I buy 2x 24 packs every 2 weeks, not going to work.

But great, I'll bike that home then go back for groceries. Maybe the "snack" I can fit will fuel me.

Sure I could cut out something I love, my one vice. But that's not very American, a car that can fit all of my stuff is.

theultdev··on How to talk to anyone and why you should
Where did I say not to have an actual conversation?

You can hit on someone and connect with them.

Be nice, connect, open up, share, listen, love. All that shit.

Then you'll get a wife, like myself. Good luck.

Or just make friends, or enemies, whatever floats your boat.

theultdev··on Long Range E-Bike (2021)
How many of those have you seen in the US?

None, because noone wants to bike 5 miles for 3 bags of groceries.

theultdev··on Long Range E-Bike (2021)
The "food" was a catch-all. Pretty sure that was clear.

Beer and cat litter alone are the heavy items, and don't fit stable in a bike, especially in bad weather.

Plus 2 weeks of groceries, depending on what you need can really add up.

On a bike? Fah-get-a-bout-it. Guess I'd be biking my ass to the store every day.

Or I could live in the present and drive an actual car.

Clearly GP buys 1 day worth of food if he can bike groceries for a family of four.

I had Uber drivers struggle to bike 1 MEAL for my family.

theultdev··on How to talk to anyone and why you should
Talking to people you are attracted to is how the human race lives on.

And noone knows if you are talking to people "equally" they only know the conversation they are currently in.

I guess you could just hit on everyone. Old, ugly, whatever! Then you won't be a creep.

But in all seriousness, the difference between courting someone and creeping someone out is how attractive you are to them, not the other way around.

theultdev··on Long Range E-Bike (2021)
I think we have different grocery habits.

Food, beer, and cat litter would be too heavy for a bike.

theultdev··on Audio is the one area small labs are winning
I'd assume you could get enough points on each to get 500 so you could downvote.

Then you could help control the discussion if you coordinated up/downvotes/flag with your bots.

theultdev··on Vercel's CEO offers to cover expenses of 'Jmail'
You're missing a large part of the conversation and context if you don't at least link to the source.
theultdev··on Vercel's CEO offers to cover expenses of 'Jmail'
Agreed, was slow to load and I just had to find the source post on X to view the real conversation "thread".

This is the first Threads link I've ever seen here. Is that what Threads mainly is, reposting X screenshots and starting a sidechain conversation?

theultdev··on Remarkable Pro Colors
Nope, not in any way.

I just like the product and thought the free lifetime was nice.

Would be nice to work there for a year or so to implement a wishlist of features for the OS though.

theultdev··on Remarkable Pro Colors
You probably have lifetime subscription btw.

I have two devices with lifetime (RM 1 + 2)

RM was very generous giving it to all devices bought before the service came out.

It's only $5/mo iirc w/ no hard limits, not a bad deal to sync your docs, pdfs, and books tbh.

theultdev··on Your app subscription is now my weekend project
Lol did you really come back to my profile 22 days after replying to me on a political thread?

Did I hit a nerve or do you just have a crush on me? :)

theultdev··on Your app subscription is now my weekend project
"10k user completeness" might be full of "features" you don't want that clutter the ui and add entropy.

You know how you think and know your goals so a customized, focused solution would be better than something for the general masses.

theultdev··on US Job Openings Decline to Lowest Level in More Than a Year
The first that comes to mind was the Keystone XL Pipeline.

Biden cancelled it with EO 13990 when it was pretty much done.

Would have been thousands of jobs, Canada wanted it too, it's safer than trucking/transporting by train. All just cancelled on a whim.

Then there's EO 14008 that put a moratorium on new oil and gas leases on federal lands and offshore waters. (fed land is 25% of oil production)

Regardless of your position on oil (I'm sure you have one), the point is those are two examples of disruption of an industry by EO from a previous president.
