uncoder0··on Charging electric scooters is a cut-throat business
The hummer h1 is quite a bit of hyperbole.

25.4 mpg [1] is the average fuel economy of cars sold last year while the h1 is at 8 mpg.

uncoder0··on Gerontopoly: Homeownership, wealth, and age
I agree why don't we just make a extremely burdensome property tax for non-primary residence properties that are not worked/workable land such a farm land? Maybe 5x property tax on your second property, 10x on your third, etc. Maybe it only kicks in and ramps up after a set number of months to allow developers to buy properties and develop them for sale but make it hard to hold them for too long in order to get a 'legit' owner in the house who will actually make it their home.
uncoder0··on Why Silicon Valley Shouldn’t Work with the Pentagon
For clarity DARPA isn't part of the DoD it's a civilian run federal research organization.
uncoder0··on Tesla Was Kicked Off Fatal Crash Probe by NTSB
It's a widely reported issue over at /r/teslamotors. I see a thread or mention of it at least once a week.
uncoder0··on Cobalt Robotics Raises $13M from Sequoia for Indoor Security Robots
Yeah if anything this takes the attack surface and multiplies it quite a bit. Imagine if one could sneak something into a firmware update for all the Cobalt bots.

uncoder0··on Ripple cryptocurrency surges as Japanese groups agree to use it
Bingo. I think the delusion will persist if Coinbase lists it which is and has been the current rumor in the trader circles I frequent. I'd lose a bit of respect for CB if they did but it will certainly make them a lot of money because $2.00 is so cheap!

Likewise. Learned 'typing' in 2nd grade in '95 alongside logo programming.
uncoder0··on New silicon structure opens the gate to quantum computers
The vacuum, temperature and confinement requirements would seem to be huge problems relative to the exotic material requirement of current gates (Not to diminish the significance of accomplishing this in silicon). As far as I know these 'hard' problems have remained pretty constant in quantum computing. Are we making progress on any of them? Basically, in your opinion how are things progressing in the field with respect to the big problems with making quantum computing mainframe ubiquitous?
uncoder0··on Alaska is warming so fast, quality-control algorithms are rejecting the data
From what I've read it's much closer to 100% than it is to 50% in terms of what percentage of the current warming since 1950 can be attributed to humans.

uncoder0··on New silicon structure opens the gate to quantum computers
Paper is linked below and way out of my depth but the only mention of temperature I could find was 150 mK so I'd assume this is not done at room temperature.
uncoder0··on Bitcoin Futures Start with a Bang as Rally Trips Circuit Breaker
If Segwit adoption (~12% after launching toward the end of August) by 3rd parties is any indicator even if lightning released today we wouldn't be seeing huge benefits for months if not years.

There is a certain elegance to increasing the block size as it allows you to continue using the chain as you've been using it for years (on-chain transactions). As a bitcoin community member for nearly its entire history myself and others have worked hard to get the level of merchant adoption we enjoyed in early 2016. Today bitcoin is accepted in less places than it was 2 years ago and transacting with is is a luxury only reserved for us privileged early adopters. It was never supposed to be this way.

uncoder0··on Bitcoin Futures Start with a Bang as Rally Trips Circuit Breaker
With the current difficulty level isn't the '6 block standard' a bit dated unless we're talking about a transaction that is extremely valuable.
uncoder0··on IOTA surges up 70% after teaming up with Microsoft, now the 5th cryptocurrency
Same. I don't know a single developer worth their salt who doesn't know the golden rule of working with cryptography. The team must be full of amateurs.

Also, does anyone know if IOTA is a real blockchain I seem to remember when I first looked into it that it seemed to be nothing more than a distributed database with centralized control.

uncoder0··on CBOE Will Start Bitcoin Futures Trading on December 10
Couldn't someone just publish a print version of the source code and whitepaper and it'd fall under the First Amendment? I believe this was done for PGP https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretty_Good_Privacy#Criminal_i...
uncoder0··on Bitcoin hits $10,000
Took me a few hours. Use `-dbcache=n` where n = bytes of memory... will make sync super fast if you have +8GB of RAM. I think default is pretty low.

uncoder0··on Bitcoin surges in Zimbabwe after military seize power
What you're describing sounds like zero confirmation transactions which bitcoin used to support before RBF. You can't reliably take zero-conf in btc anymore though. So you have to wait for settlement to turn over goods or services.
uncoder0··on One Bitcoin Transaction Now Uses as Much Energy as Your House in a Week
The throughput is however not bounded by electricity usage. Increasing the block size 8x to 8MB would yield 28 tps and so on. 1GB blocks have even been tested and yield >10,000 tps at essentially the same electricity usage. https://news.bitcoin.com/gigablock-testnet-researchers-mine-...

Prob had his gas price set at default 21 when 0.1 gwei will do just fine most times.

Maybe it's bugged though because those numbers are quite a bit different.

Edit: oops looks like I was on the rinkeby testnet

I think that's the test though and a perfect lead in to the interview. Build the MVP. Then in the interview explain to me what it lacks and what you think the next steps are to get it production ready... The task isn't build me a URL shortener that's ready to take bit.ly's load.
uncoder0··on Boom in American Liquified Natural Gas Is Shaking Up the Energy World
Yes. About half the CO2 as well as an order of magnitude less NOx not sure on other levels. I'm pretty sure much less CO. IIRC lower levels of byproduct is because LNG is a more pure hydrocarbon than Coal.
