wavefunction··on My experience as a poll worker in Pennsylvania
As well, this media outlet linked in the op is owned by The Heritage Foundation a far-right-wing "think tank". The other pieces of media on the site do not seem to be without a certain political bias.
wavefunction··on One pollster’s explanation for why the polls got it wrong
And the Communist and Constitution Parties.
wavefunction··on Eric Schmidt has applied to become a citizen of Cyprus
>But if people had more resources left to themselves, they could spend some of it on the same projects US gov spends it on.

With your assertion in mind: there were plenty of wealthy people in the US in the early 1990s so why didn't they fund the nascent Google project? You'd think anyone would love to be the likely majority owner of Google.

wavefunction··on Mars is not a legal vacuum
What if Earth sends a fleet to Mars with orbital bombardment capabilities? Mars isn't like the Earth where you can just run outside of your fixed settlements into the forests or jungle. Even Earth isn't like that any more.
wavefunction··on Mars is not a legal vacuum
Colonization of Mars will likely be dependent on Earth for a long time. Long enough that terrestrial authority will gain a firm grasp there. This doesn't preclude an eventual rebellion and emancipation but that's different than what Elon has flippantly declared.
wavefunction··on U.S. Feds Seized Nearly $1B in Bitcoin from Wallet Linked to Silk Road
Or securely send it over the internet for $12. Quite a bit cheaper than transferring $1B via the banking system.
wavefunction··on New study finds psilocybin greatly and quickly relieves depression
I feel that you are posting some very irresponsible things in the comments here in a very authoritative tone. I would kindly invite you to refrain from doing so, since I disagree strongly with your various assertions. Perhaps you can offer your views as your personal perspective rather than objective truth.

Caffeine is a mind altering experience. Eating too much sugar is a mind altering experience. Drinking alcohol is a mind altering experience. I have had extremely pleasant and also terrifying psilocybin trips. They have all been constructive experiences for me.

wavefunction··on New study finds psilocybin greatly and quickly relieves depression
Making medical claims positive or negative invites the presence of the FDA.
wavefunction··on Does Knowing God Just Take Practice?
Why does it need to be Abrahamic? The Native American Church --which syncretizes traditional Native American beliefs with Christianity-- takes peyote buttons as part of their ritual practices.
wavefunction··on There was a clear winner on election night: Marijuana
The people who took part in the Summer of Love were a minority of the population of 18 year olds at the time from what I understand. Around 100,000 according to Wikipedia[0]

That's not to say that drug experimentation wasn't more widespread than that group: I know my father experimented because he's told me. However he has become pretty conservative as he's gotten older. Or at least supports conservative American politicians and voted for Trump probably both times.

wavefunction··on Let's put e-voting where it belongs: on the trash-heap of bad ideas (2016)
Sorry can't reply to your reply but... Making the ballot a zk-SNARK[0] would allow it to be queried for validity of certain assertions like "Did this ballot contain a vote for Candidate A or Proposition B" without leaking the identity of the voter. The voter's private key could decrypt the entire ballot perhaps for the voter's verification or even as another verifiable assertion that the ballot was signed with the specific key. Perhaps there would be a key provided by the voting authority body as another verifiable assertion that would allow the voting authority body to verify the user for their purposes if required.

I agree that the more difficult part of this would be encouraging adoption and supporting use. There are hardware keys like yubikeys or hardware crypto wallets that can be populated with voter-generated keys to be used in the voting process, and these hardware keys could be populated in a process similar to getting a driver's license perhaps, except not waiting for it to arrive in the mail. Perhaps you go into your local clerk's office and they have a one-time key generator that populates your hardware key. I definitely haven't fleshed this idea out beyond some basic musings.

wavefunction··on Let's put e-voting where it belongs: on the trash-heap of bad ideas (2016)
The ballot itself could be a zk-SNARK written to a blockchain signed with a private key owned by the voter.
wavefunction··on How to count every language in India (2018)
Different languages have different nuances for things so there are ideas and ways of thinking that are lost when a language dies, as you may have accidentally alluded to. I grew up in Colorado and my family normalized many terms like couloir or scree that got me in a bit of temporary trouble with an English instructor in Texas who thought I'd been fishing for exotic words to use in a paper. He was a great guy and accepted my explanation that these were words I used frequently while growing up: they are my language.
wavefunction··on Hackers hijack and publish mental health data of hundreds of people
Even once person saved is an effect.
wavefunction··on War Elephants, Part II: Elephants Against Wolves (2019)
And the elephants were explicitly linked to three war-elephant using states absorbed by the Roman Empire, Carthage, Ptolemaic Egypt and the Seleucid Empire.
wavefunction··on Russia gives Edward Snowden permanent residency
I upvoted you because you merely posted your opinion, with which I agree. His actions did result in loss of trust in the US from foreign governments and people but I think his main intent was to alert the American people to what their government is doing. I consider him a patriot and my only regret is that he was trapped in Russia though I'm not sure his plans to travel to South America would have panned out.
wavefunction··on PayPal to allow cryptocurrency buying, selling and shopping on its network
Bitcoin is not a great option for payments due to the time it takes for a transaction to process/settle and the fees involved.
wavefunction··on Breach at Dickey’s BBQ Smokes 3M Cards
I feel it's a stretch to call Dickey's a BBQ place given my experience of the food there. Maybe a roast-beef place.
wavefunction··on Wim Hof’s teachings about breath work and the health benefits of cold plunges
The study showed that he and his brother, who has a similar brown fat physical makeup but doesn't follow the 'Wim Hoff method' performed pretty much the same.
wavefunction··on Show HN: I made earrings that work like earphones
Well, hopefully they will recycle the batteries but it's a good point!
wavefunction··on Show HN: I made earrings that work like earphones
Perhaps you could integrate the battery into the earring part so while you're wearing one pair you can hot-swap to a fully charged pair. I like the concept though, very interesting!
wavefunction··on Wim Hof’s teachings about breath work and the health benefits of cold plunges
From what I understand his methods are revolutionary for people with his same physiology. He and his brother were the subject of a study which seems to cast doubt on the potential of his claims for people without a similar physiology: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal...
wavefunction··on An AI can simulate an economy millions of times to create fairer tax policy
I am not sure what you mean that "the Laffer curve doesn't exist"? It exists as a concept that has never been shown to be valid.
wavefunction··on An AI can simulate an economy millions of times to create fairer tax policy
You should consider the very basic economic concept of price-elasticity of demand. I might be able to raise it to 20x, watch customers disappear and make more revenue. So please, educate yourself a bit and next time try to put more effort into your response.
wavefunction··on An AI can simulate an economy millions of times to create fairer tax policy
As you point out the effects proposed by the Laffer curve have never been observed in the real world and instead the opposite has been true. It's an article of faith among many American conservatives though and faith cannot be overcome by facts.
wavefunction··on Why American cities can’t keep up with infrastructure maintenance (2017)
Our GDP today is largely based on intangible services. GDP could have been (and was) lower in the past and still stronger in terms of delivering tangible infrastructure projects.
wavefunction··on Paul Stamets on the interrelationship among mushrooms, consciousness, and nature
While your post has some truth I have to reject your general premise that an individual can't derive any value without some sort of formalized framework. It's simply not true.
wavefunction··on Bill introduced to promote prescribed fire intends to reduce fire risk
I don't see the connection between prescribed or wild fires with global warming other than global warming has led to droughts and climate change that make these fires worse to manage.
wavefunction··on Irish Court Says Subway Bread Is Too Sugary to Be Called 'Bread'
I don't know anyone that would eat Subway every day. The point is that the sugar content of Subway 'bread products' is not sufficient to call it bread and I pointed out the facts.
wavefunction··on Irish Court Says Subway Bread Is Too Sugary to Be Called 'Bread'
Europe has plenty of 'sweet bread' with sugar in similar quantities. I don't begrudge resistance to industrial 'bread products' but this is just a performative headline.
