wavefunction··on Bike crash left Spokane man unconscious, so his Apple Watch called 911
I can't speak for all cases but there are often unknown medical conditions involved. My aunt got the flu one year and it weakened her heart so much that she required a transplant and while she lived for a while after that, she died at 27.

Please vaccinate yourselves and loved ones even for the flu.

wavefunction··on “Did You Eat the Whole Cake?” On Learning Estonian
My pleasure!
wavefunction··on “China's Tesla” NIO slashes thousands of jobs as losses mount
I can only speak anecdotally but Volvos have a reputation in America for requiring more maintenance more frequently than other manufacturers.

Switzerland has Romansh as one of its four national languages, though I'm not sure if that's the context you were intending. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romansh_language
wavefunction··on Facebook to acquire CTRL-Labs, a startup for controlling computers with the mind
Unfortunately Oculus lost me as a potential customer when facebook acquired them. Palmer Luckey's various misadventures reinforce this feeling for me.
wavefunction··on Apple’s New Mac Pro to Be Made in Texas
>Theres actually news here otherwise Apple wouldn't have published a press release

I am not sure about that.

wavefunction··on Some WeWork Board Members Seek to Remove Adam Neumann as CEO
Unless it's the "royal We" and then it's even more potential delicious irony.
wavefunction··on For Sale: America’s Largest Private Grove of Giant Sequoias
The company I work for interprets it as any EU citizen any where on the globe, so we just implemented GDPR for every one regardless of their location or particulars.
wavefunction··on US takes 'richest nation on earth' crown from Switzerland
The post I am replying to claims that the "20% poorest" in the US have it better than middle-class Europeans which is such a ludicrous claim as to require posts like mine to provide the context of reality.

To your stuff about Sweden and refugees, income and wealth are related but separate concepts.

wavefunction··on US takes 'richest nation on earth' crown from Switzerland
Texas has literal shanty towns with 100,000 American citizens living there so I think this is a situation where statistics (or the ones presented) are highly inaccurate or deeply mischaracterized:

wavefunction··on Google Wing Launching US Drone Deliveries with FedEx, Walgreens
I hate the idea of polluting the open air with the noise and visual pollution of drones, though I guess we're killing off the birds so we need something to replace them so why not a drone delivering an impulse purchase of chapstick.

How utterly depressing.

wavefunction··on Hong Kong tries and fails to hire PR firms to rebuild image
Thanks for your suggestions. I have to admit I enjoy nature over man-made achievements but I would appreciate visiting China's mills of industry in addition to absorbing the local culture and cuisines throughout the nation (food is perhaps most accessible and direct experience of local culture?)
wavefunction··on Tom Delonge’s UFO Research Center Is Making Politicians Demand Answers
unidentified flying objects are definitely unidentified flying objects, an anonymous source at the US Navy reports
wavefunction··on Colorado Town Offers 1 Gbps for $60 After Years of Battling Comcast
Adopting an antagonistic stance towards American telecoms is a patriotic duty of all functional Americans.
wavefunction··on Tom Delonge’s UFO Research Center Is Making Politicians Demand Answers
We have Airbus and Embraers flying around in the US every day. And that's just from my limited knowledge of airplanes.
wavefunction··on Tom Delonge’s UFO Research Center Is Making Politicians Demand Answers
They're also posing for a picture.
wavefunction··on Google Fi Unlimited Plan
I consistently had mobile monthly bills $30-$40 probably because my data usage was primarily in location with wifi. And whatever you don't use of that $10Gb gets rolled over to the next month which is not something TMobile will offer.
wavefunction··on Hong Kong tries and fails to hire PR firms to rebuild image
I was planning to visit Hong Kong before this began but won't now for the foreseeable future due to the actions of the governments of HK and China. I want to visit China too but the rapid development of their omnipresent surveillance state has me putting those plans off presumably forever, which is a shame as I am fascinated by Chinese history and culture.
wavefunction··on United States Files Civil Lawsuit Against Edward Snowden
The NSA is spying on everyone and trying to weed out the Americans. That doesn't make your completely unsupported claims any firmer, and getting downvoted so quickly indicates you are posting things that might be acceptable in the rest of the internet but are not so welcome here.

Now, if you have some verifiable evidence to support your claims and can provide it then you will receive a far different response.

wavefunction··on Richard Stallman resigns from CSAIL at MIT
I downvoted you because both the neurotypical and neuro-atypical suffer from myopia, sentimentalism, favoritism, deficits of empathy, and methods for introducing and justifying moral lapses.
wavefunction··on Square wants to be a bank but not be taxed like one
Why no Wyoming Silicon Valley?
wavefunction··on Edward Snowden says he would like to return home
It would, yes.
wavefunction··on Wasps: If you can't love them, at least admire them
I have a fair amount of wasps in my vicinity: mud daubers and paper wasps mostly it seems. They're very inquisitive and curious but not necessarily belligerent. I've never had any problems with them so I generally leave them alone, though I do clean their nests off my house and shed.

*One of the coolest experiences of my life spent outside was watching a tarantula hawk and tarantula engage in mortal combat right in front of my friend and I as we were sitting and relaxing in a park.

wavefunction··on Why Is the Amazon Rain Forest Disappearing?
>It would be expensive

It's just Brazilian farmland, I don't see why it will be expensive. It looks like the conservative cost of a productive acre of farmland in Brazil can cost up to 1500 USD an acre, so taking the 2.124 million miles^2 area of the Amazon basin we get a very conservative 2.03T USD to purchase every acre of the Amazon basin at generous upper-end of Brazilian agricultural prices regardless of productivity.

The real problem is... how could you trust Bolsonaro's government or the criminals they've enabled and emboldened to respect your property rights?

wavefunction··on Cabin releases 2nd-gen fleet of sleeper bus from SF to LA and back
Due to oil fields and lack of housing I imagine.
wavefunction··on France and Germany Agree to Block Facebook's Libra
The consortium is like a rogue's gallery of companies I distrust though, so I'm not sure decentralizing my deep distrust is going to help the Libra project.
wavefunction··on France and Germany Agree to Block Facebook's Libra
A fine point and two significant examples that illustrate the dangers of unfettered corporations.
wavefunction··on The ancient world teemed with birds
I guess if those are our options then better for all if your cat is inside safe from cars and predators and yay we get birds!
wavefunction··on 'Co-living': the end of urban loneliness or cynical corporate dormitories?
Are you talking about a simple task or a deeply ingrained personal lifestyle perhaps encouraged by mental illness?
wavefunction··on Phaistos Disc
I dunno, a list of phone numbers could tell you quite a bit. Are they roman numerals or arab? How many digits? Are they standard length sequences or variable? Are there any repeating patterns in the numeric sequences or groupings?
