AGI is of course completely transformative but this leaves me thinking you folks are just putting a "Do no Evil" window-dressing on an effort that was/continues to be portrayed as altruistic. Given partners like Khosla it seems to be an accurate sentiment.
Blockchains are already a decentralized ledger and it's a bit more than just a re-skin given eventual but not necessarily immediate consistency. Presumably the missing books, records and financials consisted of the more mundane sort that regular Lotus 1-2-3 could have helped these embezzlers, were they not embezzlers.
Everybody would have been better served by allowing the defaulting owners to remain in the homes under some sort of managed process until they could start making mortgage payments. Or restructuring the mortgages. Instead as you point out these banks were suddenly residential real-estate owners with no existing property-management capabilities and many of these already underwater properties lost further value due to neglect.
My brother (a welder) had to constantly correct design flaws by the architects and engineers involved so education is something but not everything. This ranged from having to "fix" the specified measurements to ordering more material because the highly educated apparently faltered on that note.
When I stop getting South-Asian recruiters bombarding me on LinkedIn asking if I want to work a 1 month contract in Pittsburgh writing PHP for $16 an hour despite living in Texas then I will agree the situation has been straightened out. There are fast-food places offering $15 an hour.
Until then the system is being abused and it's American labor that's losing out, followed by people being abused by the H1B racket. If they want to pay someone $x to do some job then hire them in their home country and outsource it. Or offer the visa to the worker. It's much more preferable for these firms to abuse the system and their "placements" until it's fixed though.
One quibble, Austin didn't kick Uber and Lyft out, they refused to pay for fingerprinting ride-hailing drivers and suspended operations on their own accord.
I assume they've set up an ethereum network with Proof of Authority instead of Proof of Work or Stake which means this isn't really decentralized since the transactions are being solely mined by a controlled group of trusted nodes. The five-engineer team I work on did the same over the course of the past six months and for us it's just a stop-gap until we can move to Proof of Stake, get some third party nodes on the network and finally consider ourselves decentralized as a blockchain.
Babies have the same interest in science as the rest of us, to be squashed or supported as required by various groups and institutions or human aspirations as might exist.
This seems like standard operating practice for vulture capitalists (Bain Capital) that swoop in and extract the value from the firm before discarding its debts and bankruptcies and moving on to the next firm.
"Battery" is a sort of nebulous term for a collection of similar objects working in concert, whether that be artillery guns or electrical cells. Consumer electrical batteries are a collection of electrical cells.
I believe the intention is providing a voice recognition system you can use to interface with other things, like APIs. Products from Big Data (in my usage like Big Oil, Big Tobacco, etc.) offer convenience at the cost of privacy. For many people, this is a minor trade-off. For others, alternatives with perhaps less convenience.
Accusing one of the divers that rescued the kids from the Thai cave of being a pedophile was where my admiration flipped to a much more measured regard.
I have thought about this and realized I don't have the knowledge of how Gillian Anderson and the other big name actors have been compensated for their involvement to be critical. Maybe the actors receive the rights to their hirez digital scans, for example. Maybe the actors are getting a cut of the eventual 'box office take.'
