zython··on Does Peppa Pig encourage inappropriate use of primary care resources?
Would you like to provide some of those examples ?

edit:proved => provide

zython··on Design Principles
Yes, you just listed 4 of the 8 golden rules by Shneiderman.
zython··on Ask HN: How do I learn advanced math?
now that you say it I probably have 0 skills solving actual math problems.

I mean i passed my undergrad course which covers lin alg calc 1 and 2 but I dont have any more knowledge more than that but I would say that I know these topics such that I can pick a topic and explain them to someone

what can you recommend me ?

zython··on Ask HN: Where can I learn about fourier transformations?
I was looking for an easy explanation so I can be prepared to learn and study it.
zython··on Ask HN: Where can I learn about fourier transformations?
I'm a compsci undergrad currently, wouldnt say I'm bad at math wouldnt say I'm particularly good(thus the question), I can teach myself some math but it takes a lot of time and a lot of stress (which I'm trying to improve).
zython··on From Linux to Windows 10: Why did Munich switch and why does it matter?
I believe the one sentence about ms moving its german headquarters to munich last year should have been expanded.

I wonder if ms moving its hq and everything that comes with it sped up someones decision making.

zython··on Apple HomePod – a missed opportunity
yes, not to the extreme of smartphones tables and laptops (since all of them are more or less capable of running on linux) but smart tv for me fall into the same category as these "smart home" aka mass surveillance devices, especially because it has been proven that they have been used for surveillance.
zython··on Apple HomePod – a missed opportunity
Why anyone would have such a device in their home is still beyond me. I can turn on my lights, play music and manage my calendar just fine without the direct line to the NSA in my living room.
zython··on NoScript Not Available for Latest Firefox
Or you know, "if you feel unsafe" you can always downgrade to 56 or chromium.
zython··on Show HN: Free Math, an offline React app for managing digital math homework
I'm sceptical that this will improve the classroom climate for that I'd have to be developed with actual teachers and students. Digitalization just for the sake of it is considered harmful.

Also I'd be wary to trust the similarity metric, IMO it is best to assume good faith until you have evidence of cheating.

Anyway I think this can turn out great, like other have said, if it gets some polishing here and there.

zython··on Robot-assisted surgery associated with longer operating times, higher cost
Which one would be willing to accept if it would be able to save lives.
zython··on Could cryptocurrency mining kill online advertising?
> Hey, we spent a good fortune to make this site run on all devices, responsive and usable. Lets slow it down to mine *coin, we'll be able to make dozens, DOZENS !!
zython··on Linux ransomware in the wild
well, when wannacry was around, you could "salvage" the decryption key from an infected machine before it was rebooted.

not saying your idea is bad advice but you need the full picture to counter ransomware attacks

zython··on StackOverflow Architecture (2016)
I enjoyed this very much. Any more of this ? I like highscalability.com but this is more hands on. Anyone have something like this ?
zython··on Say no to Electron: use JavaFX to write a fast, responsive desktop app
I'm a little disappointed that the article doesnt mention the benefits of JavaFX and why exactly I should ditch electron over javafx.
zython··on Linux PIE/stack corruption
I dont understand how a potential exploit would work.

>he loader could allow part of that application's data segment to map over the memory area reserved for its stack, potentially resulting in memory corruption

do they expect an attacker to redirect code execution to an address on the stack which they previously wrote when loading the binary, so they can make use of suid to escalate priveliges ?

zython··on Introducing Atom-IDE
Is this the fate of all text editors once they run out of ideas to implement ?

I for sure wouldnt use this, especially with the whole kite controversy just being over (is it ?).

zython··on Panic Button: Lessons for the Tech-for-Good Sector
When has that worked out for the greater good ?

Not trying to sound snarky but I'm really trying to think of an example but can't find one.

zython··on Lopifit – The Electric Walking Bike
the fitness aspect of this seems very questionable

a normal bike (even an eletric one) can give you a better fitness-friendly way of getting around while also being easier on the knees

for that price I cannot see how anyone in their right mind would choose this over a nice commuter that you will actually be able to repair on your own compared to this proprietary mess where I cannot even see a full detail shot to identify the components used

i think and hope this product is destined to fail

zython··on A Thorium-Salt Reactor Has Fired Up for the First Time in Four Decades
I was under the impression that thorium-salt reactors have been tried in the past and not deemed "worth" from security and profitability point of view.

What has changed about that ?

zython··on Save Your Sanity, Downgrade Your Life
I always have a "sealed" manual toothbrush ready for when I'm traveling somewhere, especially by bike you cannot justify the weight of an electric toothbrush.
zython··on Papers I like (part 2)

zython··on Can protein startups and their investors take on Big Cow?
Ah, looks like your're right.

Good thing soy isnt the only good source of plant based protein.

zython··on Can protein startups and their investors take on Big Cow?
How do you mean ?

As long as its nutricous and preferrably somewhat edible, it should be at the very least not harmful for any sex, right ?

zython··on Give me 15 minutes and I'll change your view of GDB (2015) [video]
The TUI in gdb is a great way to get started with gdb. Instead of writing your own hooks and commands you can visually step through the program and source code ( if you have debug symbols enabled)

I think that more people should know about this feature.

zython··on To Protect Voting, Use Open-Source Software
Which is something you can justify IMO for a direct, just, free, equal and confidential election.
zython··on Show HN: Anonymous Discussion Platform For Any Topic (think Reddit meets Slack)
From what I can tell, the stack is based on node with express and react.
zython··on New Game of Thrones episode appears in the wild
Those are most likely the same people who are willing to watch pirated cam-recordings of cinema movies right after they release.
zython··on Electric cars are not the answer to air pollution, says UK adviser
Any idea why its called bicycle and not quadcycle ?

The wear and tear on tires and bikes with a 100kg system weight is much less than car to say the least.

zython··on Windows 10 is making too many PCs obsolete
In other words Windows 10 is making itself obsolete.
