But as it Wikileaks doing the releasing and the Observer is merely reporting said release, how does it make the leaked material any less damning?

It doesn't.

Almost all major main stream media corporations actively participate in spreading propaganda, manufactured narratives, and censorship. There is no such thing as a non-bias news source anymore.

What does matter is the content of the leaks. Everything else is a distraction.

Which is then subject to interpretation thru the bias of the observer. It's Benghazi all over again, or just business as usual, or not a problem at all, depending on your internal narrative.
