In a previous YCNews discussion of this topic, I worked out based on public Root DNS statistics that this traffic amounts to at most a few gigabits spread across hundreds of DNS servers, each of which has at least a gigabit connection.

Notice that all of the breathless articles going on about how evil Google is are using percentages, not absolute numbers?
