This is the beginning of an exciting new era when government's will lose the ability to effectively control access to information in their country.

Sure, Russia could shoot down the satellites, but the cost both in terms of missile cost and in terms of space debris would be extreme. Given that SpaceX is launching many starlink satellites in a single launch and reusing the falcon-9, SpaceX's costs will continue to get lower.

I'm sure the CCP will find a way to stop SpaceX and the great firewall will remain, but I'm less confident in countries like Iran or Turkey in being able to continue to censor and regulate their internet.
