I'm OK with this. It's not as if these petitions gave the people any actual power or influence over the government or policy, just a PR response for reaching 100K votes, which is bread and circuses.

If people want to be engaged with government they should do so through avenues which actually matter, local activism and voting.

The UK has one of these things too. 90% of the time the response is "the government has no comment on the matter" and it just gets closed.

People raise petitions purely for media attention more than anything else.
