Just as a heads up, if you are viewing the site in Safari, you will not see the graphs and images as lazy loading is not yet supported.

You can manually enable it if you have Developer mode enabled with:

Develop -> Experimental Features -> Lazy Image Loading

I think this was a bug in the site, which appears to now been fixed.

I just assumed they were broken or that the image server was slashdotted.

Guessing there must be some broken implementation of lazy loading on the site using JS etc.

If they just used loading=lazy on the images Safari should ignore it and so all images should load

They used data-src instead of just a src attribute on the image. So Safari parses it as:

  <img />
